I work as a server down the street from here, and a few months ago I was given an extra cupcake from a table that brought some in for a birthday.
Well, ever since then, I’ve come here several times a week for a little treat before my shift.
Firstly, nicest staff ever. It’s an absolute joy to go in.
Luca always makes me the most beautiful drinks.
Hot chocolate cookie is my favorite. The carrot ginger seasonal cupcake is the cupcake of my dreams.
:) thank you!
So I was searching for the perfect chocolate cake for Christmas and decided to track down a Brooklyn Blackout cake. I drove from Long Island to Greenpoint Brooklyn and would do it again in a heartbeat. I bought a 6" blackout cake for work and a 9 " one for home. I also decided to buy a 6" pistachio cardamom cake and some cookies. The cookies are the best ever. Not overly sweet, gentle tastes of what they're supposed to be(Ginger, peanut butter, etc) No overkill on these cookies except for the fact that eating one is almost like eating a meal. The Brooklyn Blackout cake-Half of the 6" cake I brought to work came home with me, not because it was disliked but because it's a huge, heavy cake. I seriously underestimated its size. Again no overpowering, overly sweet flavors. Subtle chocolate flavors with hints of stout and generous thick filling that is not too sweet. It is not a traditional chocolate cake. It is in a class of it's own. Now the pistachio cake which was , perhaps, my favorite. Again, a small sliver is enough to fill this 350 lber up. Cream cheese icing is fantastic and fresh and not too sweet. The cake itself was dense and mildly flavored. This is a very special cake from a very unique bakery with very friendly, helpful staff.
I have never written a review this long before. However this place deserves all the praise it can get .
Friends and I planned a challenge to visit the best cookies in NYC. Ovenly was our first stop and we came here for its Salted Peanut Butter and the Daily Special - Salted Almond Chocolate Chunk.
The Peanut Butter was one of our top 3, soft inside with strong PB smell and crunchy outside. The size was perfect for individuals. The Almond Chocolate Chunk was too salty on the layer and off balance with almond & chocolate.
We also got a Ham & Cheese Croissant to share since it looked so appetizing in the display. However, even with our request to heat it up, the croissant was still served cold. It tasted not as good as what we expected.
The decor was artsy and adorable with cozy ambiance, so we enjoyed our stay there (dining outside) even in a cold weather.
I got the blackout cupcake which tasted a day old. Icing was a little hard and stale, and the cupcake was dry. However the flavor was fantastic. I would like to give this place another try and get a slice of cake next time.
Cute spot with indoor and outdoor space.
NO wifi. I got a oat mocha that was very good ($6.5).
Will go back to try some pastry, they were inviting.
Great little place to pickup a pastry and coffee and walk around by the water. Love the apricot thyme scone and ham and cheese croissant. They do not have Wi-Fi!
Sometimes if you come late enough they do a 2 for 1 pastry deal :-)
Wow! I knew Ovenly always makes a great dessert but when I had the lemon lavender cupcake, it was next level. Out of this world good. I love this location because they have a great spot to eat outdoors and it’s right near the park—plus the service is above and beyond here. Can’t recommend highly enough for any dessert lovers out there!!
Loved the blackout cake and pistachio cardamom bread. Texture and flavors were on point. Very tasty and must try items. Friendly service. Would definitely recommend. I will go back to try other items.
Pistachio cardamom cake was just delicious. Awesome flavor. You cannot get this spot on flavor anywhere else, overly is the best!
I love this place. Came in today for their matcha lemonade and a lavender shortbread cookie. The staff are always super chill and nice, I always pop in when I'm in the area.
Overly specializes in an often overlooked meal of the day -breakfast dessert. Come in after brunch to extend your deliciousness past 1 pm and grab a slice of the Brooklyn Blackout cake. The best thing about breakfast dessert is that you can have cake without any judgments being passed. The south facing windows allow a great amount of natural light into the fresh and clean space. Imagine a case of cookies and treats illuminates in this sunlight and then imagine a friendly and helpful barista asking what you want. It’s generally 3/4 full but the soundtrack keeps everything humming to a fun and relatively low noise level. Really we had a great time here and will be back for breakfast dessert soon. Did we mention cornflake blueberry muffin, pistachio cardamom cookie?
