Review Black Forest Brooklyn - Brooklyn

Went without a reservation at 5pm on a night that there were multiple events nearby. Dicey move but we got seats at the bar. Enjoyed the bartenders and talking with other patrons. Loved the pretzel and schnitzel. Obviously, the beer is German and good.

Black Forest is a really fun spot for enjoying beer and sausages! The sausages were all delicious. Personally, I loved the gnocchi dish with that flavorful sauce in the middle the most. They have ample seating and a cozy, dimly lit atmosphere.

Very delicious authentic German food. The wurst was so flavorful and shoestring fries are perfectly crisp. Good selection of beer on tap

Great beer selection! The bratwurst was really yummy. Wish I was hungry enough to enjoy a full meal but will be back. Service was smooth but was a bit slow considering the size of the place vs. the number of staff.

Nice to have an authentic feeling German restaurant in Fort Greene! The Bratwurst and Kasewurst meals were great. Brezel was delicious too, their mustard is AMAZING. Would definitely return, ample indoor and outdoor seating. Service was a bit slow.

Nice indoor beer garden with a good amount of seating, and nice variety of beers and other beverages. Service was excellent - we were greeted warmly upon entering, and our server was very friendly and attentive. Got the pretzel to share and the omelette as a main course - both excellent

Fantastic! Very good German Food BUT not enough Sauerkraut!!! Everything was sehr lecker! Fantastisch! Could be better w a sauerkraut plate and choice of sausage dinner :) like the schnitzel is offered. ❤️

Soccer on a big screen! (with a tarp over skylights during the day.) Tasty German specialties, good beer selection, including IPA.

4/7/23 crazy i have not been here in 2 years? Chicken schnitzel+ garlic mashed & kraut. Still really good! Upgraded to 5⭐ 5/16/21 Finally! Back for lunch. What did I get? Of course, chicken schnitzel w/fries + kraut. Still perfect. Good service, online ordering from the table, pay and boom.... Your food shows up. Outdoor and indoor seating, plus seating in the triangle park just downhill of the restaurant. 2/25/19 yeah, same meal, still good! 11/17/18 update: chicken schnitzel with mash + kale, still perfect... Am I too predictable? 4/9/18 update: had the chicken schnitzel with mash + kale, perfect again! 5 stars. Friendly staff and very easy to run separate checks, divided up as you pay (credit or cash) at the table- very European. I love that! Nice spot, good food and friendly service. Had the chicken schnitzel with kale salad and kraut. Very good flavors. I'll certainly be back to try more. Many selections on the menu... Lots of good beer on tap too.

My husband and I visited Black Forest on a date night. I had been craving some good comforting German food. And my cravings were satisfied. Food is delicious! A couple of things to note: - service was pretty bad (it was a Friday evening). - we waited 75 minutes for our food. Then,we were told it would be an extra 15 minutes for our goulash dish. - the place is quite noisy so it's difficult to have a conversation. - everything is ordered on your phone through bar code scanning. So it's impersonal. I plan to go back and bring more family and friends!

These guys hosted a birthday party for myself and 17 people last night. The manager helped me select the vegan and regular options for my guests and personally kept in contact with me several times during the week preceding my event. The food was absolutely amazing (their sausage plate was exceptional) and the service personnel was out of this world with efficiency and promptness. I can't wait to plan another dinner party with them.

Black forest hosted my dance team's yearly festival After-party and they were AMAZING. We sang and danced (and ate and drank) for hours, and they were fun, friendly, and flexible. I love the pretzels. They are vegan if you ask for them without butter. Beer selection is great. Thanks to Sam for working with us! She and everyone else were amazing.

I was pleasantly surprised! The food was so good! The fries were very good and that was probably the best sausage I’ve ever had! The staff was cool and very friendly.

Nice little bar that offers a lot of options. Came here with a group of friends after work and got some delicious food and drinks. The portions are huge and we’ll worth it. I’d recommend getting a smaller beer because the sizes are huge and you’d be able to try out a few options. Looking forward to coming back soon!

The food is delicious and the beer selection is fun. The owner is very kind. We ordered the impossible burger with fries and the Wurstplatte. The kale salad in particular is really yummy, savory, and a bit spicy. My only complaint is that it’s pretty expensive. Lunch for 3 people was $100 and we ordered reasonably: 3 beers, 2 people splitting a wurstplatte, and 1 veggie burger. Overall, I would return because of the great ambiance and cozy unique space.

Fun and delicious dinner! Staff are nice and attentive and the food comes out quick and perfectly prepared. They don't skimp on the portions. Pair it with a beer and you're all set! Outdoor seating is cool, though it's unfortunate that there were construction sounds outside on a Saturday evening, and you also hear the subway rumble by every once in a while but I guess that comes with the territory of living in NYC!

I'm always on the look out for a nice place to eat and have a beer or two. Then I found this hidden gem. I've driven past Black Forest Brooklyn many times and decided to stop in and check it out. We were greeted promptly by the staff and told to sit where ever we liked. We chose our table and our server Kevin B came right over and gave us the menu and took our drink order. As I took in the atmosphere which was awesome our drinks arrived. The Hofbrau beer was ice cold and the .5L mug was really cool. Within a few minutes our orders of Bratwurst arrived and it was the best I've had in years. It gave me a flashback of my time in service when I was a soldier in Germany and brought back great memories. As we enjoyed our meal I also noticed the background music was also what I like to listen to. It was just at the right volume level where you could listen to it and still carry on a conversation. Kevin came back several times to make sure everything was ok and refilled our drinks, of which I was very eager to consume. There was a nice crowd but not overly crowded for a Friday night. It was overall a great experience and I will revisit Black Forest Brooklyn to try out the Jagerschnitzel and have some Jägermeister shots and of course some more beer. The only thing I would like to see is the staff learn a few words in German. I wanted to practice my German, however the only person that spoke German that evening was the bartender and I didn't have any contact with him. Guten abend, sprechen sie Deutsche? Until next time, auf wiedersehen!

I've been to Black Forest for lunch many times. The service here is hit or miss but mostly it's okay. I felt the need to write a review today because the service today was exceptionally bad. We sat outside today which was nice. The waiter came over and seemed nice enough. We ordered from the lunch menu and then I tried to order their happy hour beer. Two of the three were unavailable- it's a Biergarten- how do you run out of beer? Anyway, I asked the waiter if we could substitute a beer since they didn't have two of the three. He said no. That didn't make sense to me so I asked to speak with a manager. He told me there was none. No manager? I asked him if there was anyone we could speak to- again, he said no. Wow. I'd never been to a place with no management that a customer could speak to when there was an issue. On to the food- we waited forever for the food to come out. I had to go in to the restaurant to check on it because, it's lunchtime on a weekday- we had to get back to the office. When it finally came out... it was cold. Whyyyyyy? We waited so long... but we didn't have time to wait for new food... so, it was what it was. While eating this cold food- I asked the waitress if there was a manager- she replied, "sure, I'll go get him." Wait, what?... why was I told that there was no manager?!! I. WAS. LIVID. It's one thing not to be able to offer your customers alternatives when you don't have something in stock. It's a completely different animal when you tell your customers that there is no manager you can speak to when there is. I'm not sure what that waiter's deal is- maybe he's new. Doesn't matter. I would rather have someone tell me they aren't sure and go ask- then straight up tell me no, and the guy is right inside. I like this place (normally) for their food- but if I was a first time customer today, I'd never go back. Even now, it will probably be a while before I even think about going back there because I'm so upset that I feel like the waiter lied to me. One star for you Black Forest- because Facebook says I can't give you less.

I been there before and always rave about their Black Forest Cake as the best ever. However this time around there was a change in the cake, the bottom layer of cherry was more like jello cherries and this made the bottom layer of cake very dry. Yes you could order a scoop of ice cream, which my hubbie did, but it was still dry.Not the same cake we've had before where it was so moist it melted in our mouths. I know it was the owners grandmother's receipt but why change it..., but why change it. We had great flatbread and potato pancakes and I think my husband had currywurst, but that too was one hot dog looking thing this time. He's has currywurst before and works for a German company .We had a couple of german beers and the rum with dessert. We will come again but hope they go back to the original cake. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful with our order. For October we are going to try several German restaurants like we do each year, since it is Octoberfest. Each one offers something special. Hope the owners have not sold or become too busy with other endeavors to let food quality slide. Happy Octoberfest!

We found this place looking for German food near Barclay's when we had tickets to see the Nets. We now come here before every game we attend. Great beer. Nice staff. Excellent menu with vegetarian options!!

Had a wonderful time at Black Forrest Brooklyn. Our server was fun and patient with our raucous crowd of adults and children. Plenty of comfortable seating allowing the kids to play around a bit. Would definitely recommend Black Forest and I look forward to returning.

Great spot to come and enjoy a German comfort food meal and beer waiting for a show at BAM right down the street.

I don't recall wearing my invisibility robe but no one noticed us walking in and waiting for almost 20 minutes in an almost empty restaurant. I even had to pick the menus! The place is good, but the service is awful…

The food as normal, nothing to go crazy. Great beer. service the waitress was a little up in the air but super nice and sweet. Ambience is great and comfortable.

The most authentic German food we ever had outside of Germany. The Gulasch and the Spätzle tasted just like in the real Blackforest, so did the Rothaus Tannenzäpfle beer, the iconic Black Forest brew. Very nice staff and excellent service.
