Review Hometown Bar-b-que - Brooklyn

The food here is amazing! My favorites are Korean sticky ribs and Billy’s housemade Italian sausage. For the ribs, the meat falls right off the bone when you take a bite; then the sweet sticky sauce hit and it’s the most beautiful experience. The sausage is very flavorful and juicy. Both of these options are more impressive than the brisket they have, which is surprising to me. The bacon is also a great option. The sweet cornbread is a perfect addition to any meat options here. The restaurant is large, with outdoor seating and an indoor bar. You place your order at the register and they will bring you your plates. It can get crowded on the weekends, especially during summertime; but if you go on a weekday, there’s usually not a line. Service is friendly. This is a great spot for large group gathering. Definitely worth visiting in Brooklyn

Went for a BBQ Thanksgiving with some friends and had an amazing meal and a fabulous time. The bloody mary is dangerously delicious, especially the candied bacon garnish. brisket is always a win, but this Thanksgiving, my friends and I all agreed that the beef rib was the best meat in the house. Mac n cheese, mashed, stuffing and pickles were delicious but forgotten as all the attention was on the meat. We also had some fabulous turkey breast with gravy, jalapeno cheddar sausage and pulled pork, but the beef is all anyone remembered after the food coma.

First time here and I have to say I loved it. Very reasonable prices especially for the amazing quality of food. I had the pulled pork, small Mac & cheese and, honey cornbread and the wife had the Korean BBQ ribs, small Mac & cheese, small collard greens, and honey cornbread. There was live music which just added to the amazing atmosphere. I am definitely coming back to try more things off the menu!!!

This place makes me wish I had it in my hometown. It is without a doubt the most beautiful Barbecue experience in New York City. You’d think they couldn’t nail everything on their menu but they just do, you can choose anything and you’ll be chuffed! Although there are places with better individual pieces, Hometown is the most complete Barbecue platter you can get. Stand out for me was the honey drizzled corn bread - no where else has come close. The best bread I’ve ever had. The service is quality as well, they know they’re stuff and they’re happy to share it. You tell them what you like and they’ll sort out the platter.

Absolute hands down best BBQ joint in NY and perhaps best I’ve ever had. All the hype about Hometown is on point. Super casual and super friendly staff. You have the choice of both indoor and outdoor seating. 80’s music blasting was definitely the kicker. Every item on their menu is to die but the ultimate is the pastrami sandwich. YES you heard me right! This sandwich is even better than Katz’s. More bark, more tender, juicier and let’s not forget the buttered rye bread. Shame on me for waiting this long to try Hometown.

I've been wanting to try Hometown Bar-B-Que for some time now, but always seem to miss an opportunity when I'm in Brooklyn since it's made a few national lists for best BBQ in the country. Finally pulled the trigger and stopped in. First the negatives: The layout is a bit confusing. We walked into an open dining area. There was nobody on staff there to greet us or tell us where to go. We eventually wandered to the back dining area and bar and were told to order at a counter after finding someone to ask. Very strange layout. Ordering is a bit unconventional. Take for example baby back ribs. Most places sell them as a half a rack or a full rack. Here, they are sold by bones. So four bones may be equal to half a rack. It sounds elementary but it's a bit complicated when you've never been there and they are trying to move you through the ordering line. I also ordered the Vietnamese wings. They came as 3 wings for $15.00. Again, not the typical way wings are denominated. I upped my order to 3 wings. Once delivered and nearly $72.00 later (extremely expensive in my estimation) with a small side of potato salad that cost $6.00, the portions were actually larger than I expected. And now for the positive: On both dishes, sesame seeds and scallions were the main garnish and were distributed liberally. The meat on my Korean BBQ ribs had a smoky char and a crunchy bite before sinking into the meat. It was very delicious. There are only two BBQ sauces available, and they were good, but not remarkable. The wings were larger and also flavorful with portions of the wing fried unevenly given it a satisfying crispiness in some bites, although less so in others. The atmosphere is young, energetic, and loud in the evening. But the interior looks every bit like a smokehouse from the Southland, the craft beer choices were excellent, and because of all these things minus the instruction we could have benefitted from as new customers, I would definitely return. Is it the best BBQ in the nation? For what I had it's hard to compare because most BBQ joints run more traditional in style and substance, and the selections I had were not things you would find at a run-of-the-mill daily BBQ joint. It's definitely a unique take on the classic BBQ experience.

Some delicious BBQ Pulled Pork. Came in for a lunch on Wednesday with a friend who has been wanting to try the place. We both ordered a pull pork sandwich, split some brisket queso and chips and coleslaw. The pull pork sandwiches were delicious and huge. The queso was good but went cold fast but the chips were excellent and well we probably shouldn’t have ordered the coleslaw but it was good. Definitely some of the best pulled pork I have had in sometime. We are out on the picnic tables but there was plenty of space inside if we wanted to sit inside. On weekends I here there is usually a line up but it would definitely be worth the wait.

Joint in Redook Brooklyn that's all the way deep near the water. Dark and industrial is the vibe. Lots of outdoor seating and somewhat small seating inside even with both rooms open. Don't get me wrong, it's a big space but just doesn't flow in my opinion. Not a deal breaker at all. The bbq is VERY good and a wide selection. The beef ribs are only on the weekends and when they are gone that's all. It's the reason I went. 45 bucks for a beef rib. Gotta tell you, it was a pretty good rib and definitely big enough for a meal. Decent bar. The staff were pleasant and working hard. The bathrooms are clean. Street parking is tight in the area so give yourself some extra time to hunt for a spot. Will definitely be back.

We were a fab four, and we went all in for the brisket, pork, ribs, cornbread, Mac and cheese, brisket and cheese, Korean pork ribs, coleslaw, and a bunch of other mouthwatering treats. Everything was amazeballs, but that brisket and cornbread were off the charts 🙌 One of the top-notch BBQ joints I've ever hit up in the city. They've got outdoor seating, so grab your grub, a cool sip, and step outside - it's like a picnic in the midst of the urban jungle. Totally recommended.

Wow the queue was extremely long, queued for about an hour but the good thing is that you do get your food immediately upon order. The meat though was immaculately barbecued and they were super good. Love the vegetables on the side as well!

We’ve been here many a time and it’s always a hit. The line can take some time, so show up at or right before 12pm on a weekend or you’ll be waiting for up to 45 min - 1 hour. Go with a group so you can order a bunch of things. The lamb banh mi, turkey sandwich (HTBC), korean sticky ribs, Vietnamese hot wings and beef rib are easily the best things in the menu. Can’t leave without some mac and cheese or the corn bread. Their bloody mary is a must. TBH, the brisket is a bit of a miss personally.

Omg best barbecue food I had in a very long time! We had the Pulled Pork Sandwich (so good!), Brisket it was so soft it melted in your mouth, Oaxacan Chicken was definitely our favorite so much flavor it was delicious & Jalapeño-Cheddar Sausage (this is not on the main menu). The sauces are also delicious! We also had an Amber beer from Cooperstown (super refreshing for a very hot summer day). The staff is super friendly and gave us really good recommendations, definitely I’m coming back to try other things from the menu. Found a new favorite place!

It was definitely worth the hype! We enjoyed every bite. The service was great and the people were friendly! There was a line going out the door but it was worth waiting on the line!! Go ahead and go because everything we had was delicious 😋 that cornbread was to die for!!

If you like BBQ, you’ll love the brisket here. For two people, we ordered: - 1/2 lb brisket (ask for a fatty cut) - 1/2 lb spare ribs (was more like 3/4 lb) - 1 pastrami bacon - small collard greens It was the perfect amount for us. The other reviews mentioning the slow ordering system are pretty accurate, but it also evens out a bit since you are getting most of your order immediately (rather than waiting for it to come to your table). The brisket was our favorite, it fell apart just from being held up in the air. The ribs weren’t bad, but not a must-have. Same with the pastrami bacon, though I can’t complain when getting a slab of pork belly. The collard greens were great though, really tasty and a nice amount of pork in there too :) I wasn’t a biggest fan of the sauces they had at the table, but the mustard (?) sauce that came with the pastrami bacon was awesome. It was tangy and cut through the fat of the meat so well without being overpowering. Overall glad we visited, I would recommend trying to get there about 10 min before opening to avoid a super long line.

All of the meats were tender, juicy smokey and flavorful. Get some side dishes like cornbread/greens to give variety to your palete. there’s lots of seating. Wait time on the weekend may exceed over 45+ minutes. Once you order, you get your food almost immediately. Parking is relatively easy. there’s decent parking spaces out front or in proximity.

Hometown Bar-B-Que is a small, family-owned restaurant that specializes in authentic, pit-smoked meats. The meats are smoked for hours over oak wood, and the result is some of the most flavorful and tender barbecue I've ever had. I started my meal with the brisket, which was perfectly cooked and fell apart at the touch. The flavor was rich and smoky, and the meat was so tender that I didn't even need a knife to cut it. I also tried the short ribs, which were equally as good. The meat was so tender that it literally melted in my mouth. The coleslaw was fresh and crunchy, and the mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy. I also had a side of the cornbread, which was moist and flavorful. Overall, I had an excellent experience at Hometown Bar-B-Que. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal. Here are some additional details about the brisket, short ribs, bacon, coleslaw, and mac and cheese: Brisket: The brisket was smoked for 12 hours over oak wood. It was tender and flavorful, with a nice smoky flavor. Short ribs: The short ribs were smoked for 8 hours over oak wood. They were fall-apart tender and had a rich, beefy flavor. Bacon: The bacon was smoked for 2 hours over oak wood. It was crispy and smoky, with a nice salty flavor. Coleslaw: The coleslaw was made with fresh cabbage, carrots, and onions. It was tossed in a creamy dressing with a hint of sweetness. Mac and cheese: The mac and cheese was made with elbow macaroni, cheddar cheese, and Parmesan cheese. It was creamy and cheesy, with a nice crispy crust on top. I would definitely recommend Hometown Bar-B-Que to anyone looking for a great meal. The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Fun spot for a group, although it can get crowded and it is communal seating / find your own seat when you get there. Food is great, I’m definitely a fan of the sides; brisket queso is a must and last time they were sold out bc we got there late. The collard greens and cornbread are also both great. Best is to get a group and try as much as you can.
