Perkins Restaurant & Bakery

Food good, service not so much. Have eaten here for years, with food choices and quality predictably good. Recently, as with almost all other local restaurants, getting, training and retaining qualified employees has been a challenge. Today's visit showed consistently good food, but between a one hour wait between orders and arrival of our meals, punctuated by a loud crash from the area of the kitchen, the experience was disappointing. Will we return? Probably. Should the same recur, probably not.

They have all day breakfast here and nice late night specials, including a great cheeseburger deal and all you can eat pancakes. Perkins has a great bakery selection with actual good deals on 12 count cookies and muffins. The pies are also great. I would highly recommend the Butterball turkey dinner anytime of the year. They are open until 11:00 pm which comes in handy sometimes. Overall a pretty extensive menu. They also have a 55+ menu, and good milkshakes.

Our food was delicious, despite her getting our order wrong - we asked for over easy eggs and got them scrambled. The service was good with many waiting staff. Being a Sunday morning, the place was packed. Fortunately we got a table immediately, but when we left there was a line of people waiting on tables to go vacant.

I ordered a pastry and a coffee, which took about 45 minutes to be served. I would understand if the restaurant was particularly busy or if they needed to work on any additional orders from my party, but it was early morning with just a few people seated, and I was by myself. I was a little put off, but decided not to bring it to management’s attention because the person overseeing the restaurant at the time did not look or sound particularly receptive to bad news at that time. I’ll just avoid this place for now.

Great food, love the salmon. Usually good service . Except last night an employee was smoking immediately outside the front door, (a reheaded young lady) isn't there some company policy or law that employee has to stay 15' away from an entrance, not one foot? I would have given this place 5 stars instead of 3 except for that. I can't keep coming here if I have to sneak around an employee who's smoking just to get in the front door. Cigarette smoke bothers my respiratory system.
