It was great!! Wish I would have gotten the name of our “server/bartender”! He was so personable, funny, quick witted!! Wanted to bring him back to Florida with me!! He gave me the best souvenir... a Boston personalized Stella beer glass!! Thanks so much for the hospitality and opening early for us!
Aside of being the best bakery in the North End, they also serve brunch, lunch and dinner, have a fantastic popular trivia night and you can get cocktails! Food is amazing and the desserts out of this world! Reminds me of my grandmother!
Awesome bakery... She had the key lime tart and I had the rum boba (think that's what it is called). Plus the coffee. I was apprehensive that coffee was going to be good but the coffee was very good. Cuz now the two bakery items was fantastic. The key lime will put a smile on my girl's face.
Late Saturday night, waited about 10 minutes upstairs for 2 seats downstairs. Sat at the bar and the bartender couldn't have been nicer. It was busy, and he was hustling, but still managed to talk/joke with us and make sure everyone was having fun... and the Pistachio, Banana Bread, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch Martinis were delicious!
This place is amazing! The vibes are so fun and cozy I love that it has a speakeasy feel and the bartender is super friendly! The food was incredible and they have special menus for special times (New Years, valentines, etc..). So many delicious options on their brunch and dinner menu good luck narrowing it down! And don't forget to stop upstairs and grab some pastries and cannolis on the way out!
Great service. I’d say that there’s limited options on the food but you can’t really complain. I can sure tell you that you’ll visit Modern much more as and when you discover Underground. Solid way to attract attention and still have some sort of special / exclusive feel to the place.
Their banana bread martini is on point! The prices are relatively better at not burning a hole in your pocket. Great job guys!
The ambience was wonderful and food was good as well, had a great time there with my friends and enjoyed the stand up comedy together!
Hidden gem. It was so nice to find some calm away from the chaos upstairs. Decent drinks and an amazing gluten free cannoli for my birthday!!! (Cannolis are the only bakery item able to be ordered downstairs.)
Loved everything about this little speakeasy. Some friends and I were in town from Iowa and visited almost every bar on the north end and this was our favorite. There were plenty of bars that were older or had more character but the service and the fact you had to walk through a pastry shop to get to it are what did it for us. Melanie, our bar tender was fantastic and very personable. David, the owner, was there as well and hooked us up with whatever we needed. Thank you both for showing these outta towners a great time in Bean Town.
Service was outstanding and friendly. Food was also good. This place gets a little loud but it’s below the pastry shop and a local hidden gem.
I don’t give 5 stars very often.

I have visited Modern Underground a handful of times and coincidentally always had the same bartender wait on us. His name is Ben and he is super friendly, funny, & efficient and incredibly cute!!! He makes a mean espresso martini, too! ;) I will be back & hope Ben's there!
