One of the best restaurants in Boston I've been to in the past couple of years.
Eating in a restaurant isn't just about consuming food - it's the whole package: the ambiance, the people, the experience and of course, in the end, the food.
First, the food was amazing. I'm a huge seafood fan and can be selective when it comes to restaurants that specialize in seafood. Also, I'm generally reluctant to try new places because of my delicate tastebud, but the perfectly cooked crab, shells and shrimp forced me to devour without me recognizing how fast I was eating! The sauce was spicy but in a tasty way, and by the end of the meal, couldn't help but yell out, "holly crab!!!" (Despite how cheesy that sounds...)
Second, the experience itself was fun! As much as I first didn't like the idea of eating out of a plastic bag using my hands, the whole package was sufficient to keep me perfectly clean even though eating like this can get messy! I was pleasantly flabbergasted!! I think the set up they have created is a phenomenal and clever one, and family gatherings can be really fun with so much action involved in eating :)
Lastly, the staff were really nice!! I consider this to be really important, because we are receiving a form of "service" by going to restaurants. Even if a restaurant has amazing food, I cease to go after trying couple of times if I realize that the people do not have service-oriented minds. This place knew how to treat their customers right.
All in all, one of handful of places I would give five stars and even bother to write a review on in Boston. I'm originally from New York and always complain about the food here in Boston, but this will now be my go-to place whenever I'm craving seafood or if friends visit the city! :)
I went to the Alston location absolutely loved it. Food was Phenomenal and loved the different seasonings. My party and I had the Seafood Broil which included Shrimp and Crawfish and King Crab Legs. If you're a lover of seafood I highly recommend this place. Definitely coming back.
Holly Crab in Allston offers a delightful seafood experience. The fried catfish and seafood boil were exceptional, though shrimp was slightly overcooked. Specialty lemonade is carbonated, a surprising twist. Despite the wait, the fresh, juicy oysters, flavorful seafood boil, and tasty Korean fried chicken wings make it worth a visit. Bibs, gloves, and wipes are provided for the messy but delicious meal. Highly recommended, just be prepared for a bit of a wait. Parking can be a challenge, but public parking is available nearby. A must-try in Allston!
We went on a Friday afternoon and the place was empty but everything we ate was so good! The fried catfish was fantastic, the sauce on the seafood boil was delicious and had the perfect level of spice. Our shrimp was the tiniest bit overcooked but still edible and we finished the entire bag. It doesn't say it in the menu but the specialty lemonade is carbonated, which took me by surprise and probably would have caused me to order something else had I known.
My whole bag of seafood was amazing. Just wish it was more spicy and a lot of garlic in the bag. Sad they didn't have garlic lemon pepper spaghetti. My one big problem is my cups were dirty and stuff was floating in it and around the cup. I was afraid to order any other drink. But the place was cute
Absolutely wonderful. The food was very delicious. If you order chicken make sure give them at least 30-40 minutes to prepare your order.
There is a bit of a wait for food due to everything being prepared fresh.
The wait is worth it.
I've been going to this place for years. Food has always been delicious. Service has always been friendly and attentive. Cleanliness is an A+. If you've never been, you should definitely go.
Although, my one and only complaint is that recently since they revamped the menu - they've been charging ridiculous prices. King crab legs were $55 without tax today. I could go to Costco and get twice as much as I got today for the same price. I'm pretty sure they've switched over to all frozen seafood versus fresh caught. Which is fine...because the food is still delicious- but shouldn't that mean prices would be a little more reasonable? I used to get a couple corns and potatoes in my bag - now it's one of each even though prices went up? Oh but I can add more for additional costs. We also used to get complimentary bread at the table to soak up all the delicious juices... those are gone now too. Extra sauce? Extra cost.
Sure, I'll still come because i can't figure out how to make the sauce and don't have the desire to learn how to. It's a special treat. But it was already pricey to start with but it had the fresh seafood going for it and the complimentary items...but now it just doesn't seem as affordable to go to once in a while. More just for special occasions.
My wife and I come here all the time—this place is so good. The best seafood boil in Boston without a doubt.
Highly recommend the fried calamari and the shrimp/mussel combo with Holly sauce (pictured)
The food is great! Wish they gave more than 1 small piece of a corn cob when I paid for corn as an extra inside. I noticed less items in the seafood boil bag than other cajun seafood boil places I’ve been to as well.
We had some good seafood boil. It wasnt salty and had enough sauce. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Would recommend
We checked this place out for dinner and oh my goodness they didn’t disappoint! We started off with a platter fresh, juicy oysters. Then, we got the seafood boil: crawfish combo with mussels and corn. Our spice level was spicy and it was just enough for us. They give bibs, gloves, and wipes which are super helpful for this delicious, but messy meal. Not pictured: large, spicy Korean fried chicken wings and sweet potato fries. Both were delicious. Highly recommend this place! Parking can be a little difficult to find, but public parking is available 7 minutes away (walking). You NEED to try Holly Crab in Allston!
Seafood - FRESH! Sauces were extremely flavorful and the sausage was juicy. The corn was sweet and fresh. There was an array of potatoes that were extremely tender. Shrimp was good, although a lot of time was spent de-heading and pealing as they weren’t as easy to peal as they could’ve been.
Adding noodles to your boil bag will definitely set it off!
One of the bags was a little cold but staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
