Reviews of Japonee

Waited 45 minutes and never even got my sushi. My fiance got his tempura relatively quickly, I ordered a 'sushi regular' and we only saw our waiter twice. I had to flag down another staff member to see where my food was and found out that it hadn't even been started yet. I asked if we could have the sushi to go and to get the check and the staff member instead cancelled my sushi order and brought the check without my food on it. This used to be my favorite place for sushi and I'm just so sad with how it's declined in the past year. The staff used to be great but something in management must have changed because it's a totally different environment now. I'm probably not going to come back.

First experience and worst experience ever! We went upstairs to the Korean BBQ and our server didn’t know the menu. Every glass I ordered of wine they were out of. We had to ask for plates and eating utensils. The meat is supposed to be endless and we had to keep asking for refills. When I finally got my wine bottle it was the wrong one. We ordered the same meat and each time got something different. Buffet style items were ice cold. Just all around very bad experience. I do not recommend it to other cultures. We were completely ignored and I am never coming back!

Super City Sushi!. I rove da japonee reshurant in downton Broomington! Dis is da besht prace to come and get city sushi around IU. Da staff is a so friendry. Da wait is awrays guaranteed to be shuper rong so you can absorb the authentic a japonese atmosphere. I highry recommend for you and friends to go to japonee reshturant in downton Broomington!! >_

I went to Japonee and received the worst service I have ever had in my life. I would have been ok with the service if the waiter was in his first week but unfortunately that was not true. We had a party of 8 and it took us 3 hours to dine and we were the only people there. Let me go through what happened. We had to ask for napkins and chop sticks. We had to ask for water refills. It took 30 minutes to get our drinks and then 30 minutes after that for the waiter to finally take our order. We finally got our food but one person in our party did not get their order. The waiter had to be notified that he did not receive his order but it still took half an hour for him to get food. The waiter never removed used dishes from previous courses and had to be reminded multiple time to bring soy sauce trays. It took 45 minutes to finally get us correct checks. The first time he brought us checks they were wildly inaccurate and included a 30% gratuity! The only saving grace was that the food was excellent. 1/10 would never go back.

After re-opening this year. I'm very impressed at the feel of the restaurant after its reopening. The mood is a lot nicer and it's a great place to chill with friends, especially if you get a private room. They also have a great deal from 5 to 7 where specialty rolls are half off, so it's super cheap. Totally recommend it.

Lukewarm - 3.5/5. I have heard nothing but praise for the newly-remodeled Japanee in Bloomington, and as a sushi fanatic, I decided to go try it for myself. Upon entering, it felt like I was instantly transported to Manhattan, as the atmosphere was sheik and inviting. I loved the ambiance, but I'm not entirely sure it belongs in Bloomington. Segregated booths for separate parties (the old Japanee had this as well), lightly thumping club music, and a wait staff who's attire rivals it's counterpart at Irish Lion lend to an upscale feel. It seems impossible that this place would cater to broke college students, which is a disconnect for me in a college town.<br/><br/>I wanted my meal to run the gambit as far as sushi goes, so I decided to go with a standard (California roll), something a little exotic (Smelt Roe and avocado), and a "house roll" (what they called the Golden California roll, which is essentially a California roll deep fried and topped with spicy mayo). Everything was very well presented and freshly prepared before my eyes at the sushi bar. But, these are simply pre-requisites; I expect this when I come to any sushi bar, so what sets Japanee apart? Sadly, other than the teleportation to a bigger city experience, not much. The sushi tasted great, but the rolls were small and a bit overpriced compared with other such restaurants (Asuka is my local sushi benchmark... definitely a bit more for your money there). The Golden California roll was fascinating in particular, served on a plate that was on fire. But, I feel the same way about it as I do about Guinness; it tastes great, I enjoy drinking it, but I wouldn't order it if I wanted a beer. It came off a bit gimmicky, but not bad.<br/><br/>This is not a negative review, but overall, I left the new Japanee a bit more confused than impressed. I would absolutely consider this place to take a date or family for a unique experience; if there's one thing I can say for Japanee, it's that there's no other place like it in Bloomington. But if you want good sushi at an even better price, Asuka and Domo are head and shoulders above this place.
