My father and I visited upon a recommendation given to him. The restaurant was cozy, and had a cool Bohemian vibe about it. We both ordered Highland Ale beers. The side salads were fresh, full of yummy salad greens, tomato, and just the right amount of sliced, red onions. The house dressing was terrific. It was pink, creamy with a hint of yogurt. We ordered the Rose pizza. The tomato sauce was sweet and seasoned just right. Probably the yummiest pizza sauce I’ve had at a pizza restaurant. The roasted garlic was a perfect complement to the mozzarella and sauce. The crust was thin but tasty. I recommend Fresh Wood Fired Pizza. It’s nice to find a local place that really lives up to its name. I liked the variety of options in the menu. Everything seemed fresh and locally supported.

The best place to get gluten free pizza. It was delicious wish we lived closer I would eat there all the time. It is very hard to find good gluten free pizza at a reasonable price and they have it. Would highly recommend. Plus my family loved the other pizza also.

Passing thru after the eclipse on 21 August. Lovely meal on the patio, we experiment with pizza and pasta and salad. All tasty, fresh ingredients, well prepared and quickly served. Recommend highly, would love to return for another meal.

Loved it! My husband and I travel all over in search of the best pizza, this place easily makes our top 5. We created our own pizza using the Madonna and adding sun dried tomatoes, pancetta, and arugula. Yummy!! Gourmet taste at an exceptional price.

Amazing find. Recently moved to BlackMtn. and passed by this small place a few times .Finally decided to give it a shot and was blown away. Excellent service and fantastic pizza(one of the top 3 pizza's I have ever had),This is my new favorite place here...worth the drive from anywhere in the Asheville area.

Fabulous Food and Beautiful Art!. FRESH is a place you definitely should put on your list of restaurants to visit when you're in Western North Carolina! As vegans, we appreciated the many choices and instant understanding of the restaurant staff. The food was delicious! The owner is right there, tossing the pizza crust himself, in view of the patrons. His ceramic art adorns the place, which is an added attraction. All his art is for sale, too! This is a sweet little place with amazing tree trunk bars and plants galore, fantastic food and a funky, truly fun ambiance. Check it out!

Great place!!. We traveled in from out of state and were lucky enough to find Fresh Wood Fired Pizza. Wife and kids had one of the best pizzas ever and got to watch the owner cook the pizza right in front of you. I had a gluten free pizza and speaking from experience, it was seriously good. Will definitely be back!!

More than just great pizza.... It's not often I take the time to write reviews here... so when I do, it's for something special. My wife and I discovered this small restaurant thanks to a sign on I-40 on the way to Asheville many months ago. I normally wouldn't be interested in most places that advertise along the interstate, but we were in the mood for fancy pizza and decided to take our chances on this place touting a brick oven. Both that first time, and last night (which makes two trips for us) were wonderful experiences, worthy of a few minutes out of my life to share it with you. Our first meal there was excellent, but most restaurants get lucky and have a good night... this place was excellent twice, which proves to me this place is serious about what they do. My descriptions below will focus on my meal last night since I would never dream of writing a review based on something I ate months ago.

I love hot soup in cold weather, so I took a chance and started with French Onion soup. I'm no soup expert, but we both thought it was delicious. Instead of being topped with one slice of bread as many places do, it was topped with cubes of bread... some of which could have been crunchy enough to be a crouton. And that, of course, was covered with delicious melted cheese. Normally this soup can be a big bowl of soft things... cooked limp onions, soaked bread, and gooey cheese. But the added crunch of the crust on that cubed bread (or croutons?) really added a little life to the soup experience. The broth which makes up the base of the soup was perfect... not too salty, not too sweet. If there was one thing I would have been willing to give them a pass on, it would have been soup... but they passed the test with flying colors. I'll definitely be trying their other soups in the future.

The first time we at here many moons ago, I started with a Greek salad which I thought was excellent at the time. At the time I thought maybe it was just good luck. But last night, my wife had a house salad which brought back memories of that first salad. Many pizza places offer salads as an accessory or afterthought... but this place has salads that could stand on their own. The ingredients are fresh, beautiful, and well arranged. There's not too many of any one ingredient, and you can tell whoever put it together eats salads themselves and cares about what they are doing. If I lived closer, I'd go there for a salad at lunch with nothing else... the two salads I have had the pleasure of eating here could be two of the best I've had anywhere (my house included).

I bake on the weekends as a hobby, so any place that claims to offer REAL bread must subject themselves to my silent scrutiny. I've only had good bread at two places in North Carolina... and this is one. I believe they bake it in their brick oven. It has a phenomenal crust that could only be sourdough, but the flavor of the bread isn't the overpowering sour flavor you might expect. I didn't even notice it until several pieces in. Any real baking book will tell you that just because bread is leavened (risen) using sourdough rather than commercial yeast doesn't mean it has to taste sour! They pair this half loaf with enough olive oil to bathe in... and you'll want to if there is any left over. It had herbs and maybe a little garlic and went perfectly with the bread. A lot of chain restaurants offer bread for free... but that crap is always factory-made fake bread. This is real bread made in the restaurant, and the olive oil alone made that $2.50 appetizer worth the money.

As a main course, my wife ordered some sort of pesto pasta with blackened chicken. I make pesto at home every summer, so I am a little picky about real, fresh pesto vs commercial pesto... this was an excellent dish. She would only let me have a small bite, but that little taste honestly made me think about fighting her for more... it was a creamy alfredo pesto sauce that lightly coated the linguine. It wasn't so heavy that you felt guilty eating it, but it was so good I would definitely try it as my main dish the next time we return. The tiny morsel of blackened chicken she offered me was cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of spice for what I like in blackened chicken. She enjoyed it so much she wouldn't even touch the pizza I ordered for us to share.

Several others here have touched on their pizza. Between my first visit and my meal last night, we have had two of their house pizzas. I enjoyed them both and would classify them as excellent pizza. I'm a bit of a pizza whore and rarely have I met a pie I didn't love... so I won't waste much more of your time describing what others have already written.

We could have stopped after the pizza and pasta, but we saw on their menu they claim to have a pastry/dessert chef. My wife saw peanut butter pie on an oreo crust, so we signed up for a slice. This isn't the stuff my sister makes at thanksgiving... this was delicious. I'm not normally a fan of peanut butter, but I had half the piece eaten before I let my wife even taste it. Not only was it delicious, but it was well-presented on the plate with real whipped cream. It was the perfect end to a wonderful meal experience.

Oh, and before I forget... the coffee we had with our dessert was something special as well. My wife said it was something local, and it was no disappointment. Had it not been 9PM, we probably would have gotten a refill of an already generous sized cup. Get this if you get dessert. Hell, get it if you just like real coffee.

If you've made it this far in my review, go ahead and make plans to eat here. You're obviously serious about good food, and this restaurant would be hugely popular were it in any other larger city. I love the fact that it's hidden in Black Mountain... it's probably the only restaurant of its caliber without a wait the two times we have been. As I said at the beginning, I don't normally post on this site (thought I do read quite often)... the fact that I have taken the time to write this should attest to my affection for this restaurant. I hope they are around at least as long as I am, because we will be eagerly returning on a regular basis in the future.

Stopped in on a Friday evening. If you can't find parking in front, there's a parking lot around back. The employees were super friendly even though it was pretty busy. I ordered the Scarface pizza which was fantastic. I really liked the crust. Really enjoyed the vibe of the place. I'll definitely return again.

Food: Scarface pizza was very good. Would order again. Good flavor. All pizzas look to be 12" and $17. Service: server was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere: Nothing special. It's a little small for the amount of business they are doing. To be fair, they have outdoor seating that was not in use the night we were there because it was cool outside. Parking: There is a little parking near the door. Some additional parking is available behind the restaurant.

Great food and great service. The gluten feee pizza was delicious though I’m not sure how Celiac safe it is. I didn’t have a gluten reaction but sometimes I don’t even when I’ve accidentally had a bit of gluten. They have tons of pizza options and even a kids sized pizza that my daughter loved. Bottom line, the food was delicious and I highly recommend!

There was no place to park but it was only a short walk from our hotel! The outdoor seating was nice and the employees were super friendly even with it being busy! We got the fettuccine Alfredo, it was very well seasoned and came with some delicious bread! We also got a pepperoni pizza and really liked that the crust was soft. Definitely recommend!

Always delicious! Always plenty of food for the price! Always good service!! Fun local vibe… I love their Fun Guy Pizza (especially with added charred broccoli & fennel sausage) and their Caesar Salad. It’s always a great to see their Lamb Gyro on the specials board. 😛
