As the name states, this cafe had an urban look.
Good coffee and atmosphere. At times parking is a challenge but it’s downtown and expected.
Great place to get a coffee or quick bite for lunch! The cappuccino is perfect and the grilled cheese is one of the best. Cool ambiance and a place my co-workers and I frequented to get a break from the office and some good coffee. Definitely a place to check out.
THIS PLACE HAS REOPENED PLEASE GO AND SUPPORT THIS FINE ESTABLISHMENT.....
This is a great place for coffee… Went by the other day did not realize they had had a fire
Are briefly closed and repairing.
You can go to their website and help support their employees while they are waiting to re-open. Go back to this place when it reopens it's fantastic and I recommended very highly.
My husband and I have started having breakfast dates on Saturday ams. We visited Urban Standard this am. We enjoyed every bit of our experience. The atmosphere was very cool and inviting. The staff was perfectly friendly and welcoming. I ordered the omelet, and he ordered the biscuits and gravy. It was all delicious. We decided to try a pumpkin spice cupcake, and were given it on the house: ) We will definitely be coming back to Urban Standard! It was a most pleasant experience!
After having wanted to try Dottie's True Blue Cafe for years, I finally got the chance! I came one brisk Thursday morning for brunch - the line was about 15 people deep but I was by myself and knew I'd snag a spot quick. I waited about 25 minutes before I was seated. Didn't realize that Dottie's was in the Tenderloin part of town - a little rough but don't let that scare you away.
Once I was seated, I decided on one of the items written on the specials menu board - the fried egg breakfast sandwich. It came with a fried egg, avocado, prosciutto, provolone, and aioli spread on a biscuit. It was served with potatoes and fresh fruit. SO happy with what I ordered. I know Dottie's has lots of items on their menu that other people rave about and I'm sure they're good - but my breakfast sandwich hit the spot. With that being said, I will definitely be making my way back to Dottie's to try some of their other delectable menu options.
Service was fast and SO friendly - everyone from the waiter to the bus-boys. Everyone was so kind and engaging. Great vibe, great place.
Our goal was to get there for breakfast but we didn't make it so we ordered lunch got the pimento cheese BLT and a chicken salad sandwich it was very good. Their sweet tea was different good just different
Not a bad place for a 1 on 1 meeting. Coffee is ok and food is ok. Doesn't rock your world but passes for good food and coffee. Not going out of my way to get here but if I am in the neighborhood, I would stop in for a drink.
This place is amazing! I was definitely recommend it to anyone! Plus Jessica is amazing!
A Birmingham Staple. I'll just go ahead and start out by saying that I'm extremely biased -- I've been frequenting Urban Standard since it opened its doors in 2007. That being said, Birmingham knows good food, so if this place wasn't any good, it wouldn't have made it this long. Trevor is an amazing person who hires great people, and it absolutely shows in the quality of every single thing that comes out of the kitchen or from behind the bar. The coffee is great (the mochas are kind of cinnamon-y, which is an interesting addition that differs from the other coffee spots in town). The three egg scramble is my absolute favorite breakfast item on any menu in town -- you can customize it however you want...they even have Conecuh sausage. The soups at lunch time are always delectable. I can't pick a favorite sandwich because the Polish street sandwich, grilled cheese (comes with a balsamic jelly), and the veggie reuben (made with BEETS!!!) are all so fantastically good. I do very much miss their white on white cupcakes, but everything in the bake case is always very good. This place is an absolute must try.
Decent. First, the grits are delicious. I had cheese added when I went, but they probably would have been delicious even without the cheese. I liked my coffee and the apple onion chutney I had for my biscuit was strange, but tasty. On the other hand, my girlfriend's iced coffee was undrinkable - super bitter and no amount of sweetener/cream could fix it. She liked the biscuits and gravy she got, but didn't love them. The vibe of the place is comfy, if a little excessively pinteresty. We went on a Saturday late morning/early afternoon and it was busy, but we were able to find a table (though we had to clean it ourselves before sitting).
