Awesome Indian snack place that has a wide array of menu as well as attached Indian grocery store. The process to order is easy- you stand in a queue, get your order token, grab a table, wait for your number to be announced and then get your food from the delivery counter. The staff is friendly and efficient. South Indian food items, chole bhature, lamb baida roti, Kathi rolls, lassi are some of the recommended items here. They also have excellent sweets counter that is really awesome and will make you happy at the end of the meal. Also useful to know is that the place has a big parking lot.

If you are craving Indian street food, one of the best restaurants to run to. There could be a big rush on weekends as it’s a very popular place. You have to buy the food and find a table that is free to sit down. I have done a couple of take outs as well. Good place to visit just before a hike to pick up some snacks. They have a variety of chaats and street food like pack bhaji and so on. Quality food for an average cost.

Whenever I'm craving some Mumbai style food I end up visiting Vik's Chaat. It's a spacious joint, brightly lit with good service.

As for their food, I'd recommend every dish on their menu. I've tried almost everything there, but here are some of my favorites that I keep going back for:
DAHI BATATA PURI - If you like Indian chaats, this is a must have and positively addictive. ;-) Tangy, sweet and spicy all at the same time - each puri is a delicious burst of flavors in your mouth. And it doesn't end there! The best part is the mouth watering tangy mixture left in your plate once you are done eating the puris.

CHOLLE BHATURE - This dish tastes best when served hot and fresh, and that's exactly how they serve it at Vik's. The Chhole (white chickpeas curry) has just the right balance of spice and tang. And the curry has good consistency. The Bhature ( fried flatbread) is also nice and the best part is that it isn't too oily. A winner of a dish on the whole.

PAV BHAJI - Vik's is the only place in the Bay Area that serves authentic Mumbai-style Pav Bhaji. The quantity of the Bhaji is a little disappointing, but it tastes great.

UTTAPAM - These savory pancakes topped with tomatoes and onions is a traditional breakfast delicacy from South India and the guys at Vik's have nailed this dish too. It's the perfect crisp pancake with fresh ingredients.

I could go on and and on describing each dish here. But I'll limit my review to these favorites that I just mentioned. Absolutely love this restaurant and it's complete value for money!

The perfect Indian brunch/ lunch or evening snack place in Berkeley. Vik's has an Indian Grocery store attached o the restaurant. In the store, you get all the best-frozen food options and the dry snacks you would like.

The restaurant is huge and usually full. the orders do not take long. The food is delicious. They serve Indian street food. They do not have tikka masala but offer a wide range of other options.

My favorite is the Chuna Bhatura and papdi chaat.

Super Hyped place. Nothing about the items offered really strikes right on the taste note.
It's really ok to be in there if you are craving for some street side Indian fare. Was not really helpful for the pocket and some of the prices were pretty steep.

Overall an Ok place and would definitely skip it in my next visit

The best place to eat Delicious Indian delicacies in Berkeley. Located a little bit far from the Berkeley downtown, but serves amazing varieties of Indian dishes, starting from chaats, sweets, main course like pav bhaji, chole bhature, samosa and a lot more.

Well we ordered almost all the chaats, pav bhaji, and samosa and also the kulfi since we had gone on a weekend.

It was a superb amazing delicious Indian treat. Vik’s chaat and market is a very highly rated Indian restaurant in the Emeryville-Berkeley-Oakland area. With great expectations, we paid this place a visit on a Saturday evening and it was super packed. It’s not a proper sit down/fine dine restaurant but more of a café where you place an order, pay and pick up your food from the counter. For dinner, we ordered Chole Bhature, dahi batata puri and chicken biryani. Somehow I found the food strictly average and not as authentic as it should have been. I have had much better food in other restaurants; hence this came as a huge disappointment. May be I did not order the best of their items, but from my experience, I would go to some other place in the area if I craved Indian food.

Our Berkeley friend brought us here knowing we were nostalgic for our time in India. It was the most authentic Indian chaat house we’ve been to since being back. There was a simple menu with all the classic Indian snack options (like cholle bhature, bhel puri, and dosas) cooked up at different stations where you picked up your food. It’s located off-the-beaten path in an industrial part of Berkeley, but worth the visit at lunch if you’re nearby.

Tucked away in a mixed industrial/residential sector of Berkeley's waterfront sits one of the gems of the city, a small Indian chaat house that looks like nothing from the outside and smells like heaven on the inside. Vik's specializes in a variety of vegetarian munchies and meaty masterpieces straight from the streets of India. Popular items like the Keema Samosa (ground lamb in a crispy shell), Koliwada Fish (spiced fried fish with onions and chutney), and Dosa (rolled crepes with vegetable filling) attract throngs of customers from around the East Bay at lunch time. The shop's most iconic item is one rarely seen stateside: Cholle Bhature, a massive puffy bread of sorts served with stewed lentils as a dipping sauce. My personal favorite, though, is their Biryani (fried spiced rice with roasted lamb or chicken). Vik's Biryani sets the bar high for other cafes in the area with perfectly seasoned rice, a kick of spice, and succulent meat that falls right off the bone. Paired with a mango lassi, it makes for a fine and filling lunch any day of the week. Savory concoctions are just one arm of the Vik's operation, though, as a massive dessert case filled with assorted Barfi (cakes) attracts sugar addled collegians and a small, but stocked, market caters to home cooks and shoppers. Amazingly, the restaurant's top qualities aren't even culinary in nature; ample parking, affordable prices, and a vibrant atmosphere greet first time customers. In the foodie haven of Berkeley, there are few better spots to enjoy a meal.

Rating: 9.1/10

Worst Indian Chaat ever !. Too big for quality control !
The chaat's (street food ) have no flavor and the Thali's are an embarrassment, cold, and thrown together without any flavors.
I feel bad for anyone who goes to eat indian food for the first time, they will never try it again, it is that bad !
and yes, I am Indian.

Like being back in Mysore!. Only had time to try one dish, but looking around and smelling the aromas, this was an amazing corner of southern India in Berkeley! Dosa! Everything looked delicious, and my dish tasted so... will definitely be back to the lively environment and great food!

Wonderful!. The food is fresh and perfectly seasoned, setting is energetic and uber delicious. I walked ten blocks to reach this location for lunch and it was well worth it! This will be on my 'must eat' list on my next visit to Berkeley!

Terrible Food! Taco Bell could make better Chaat than Viks. Shocked by how unpalatable the food was - it is an honor to even call it "food". We tried multiple items on the menu and not only did it look like it was cooked a week ago and put together in under 10 seconds but it was cold, tasteless and nauseating. If you want to squander your time and money, be sure to stop here and experience a new low in Indian cuisine.

The restaurant, which is more like a fast-casual cafe, is behind a small Indian grocery store. If you feel inspired to make Indian food at home, you can always drop by the market on your way out and pick up needed ingredients. I couldn’t really wrap my head around the organization of the chaat house, while Vera, a regular, thought the layout was ingenious. You order your food at the checkout, but you don’t get a number. Instead, you wait till they call your name. The problem (at least to me) is that

Good Quick Lunch. I have been eating here for the past 14 years on a regular basis once or twice a week. The menu is reasonable in price and has something for everyone. The staff is friendly and provides quick service so you can be on your way within 30 minutes if you like.

Sweet Jesus it's amazing food.. Man this place was phenomenal. My wife used to live in Berkeley and told me about Viks. We now live in Dallas/Fort Worth area where there is ample good Indian food, but Viks is unique. There were Indian dishes I'd never tried, fresh flavors, and a wonderfully boisterous atmosphere. Loved it. Wish it was here in the Dallas area.

After touring the Berkley campus, we drove to Vik's for some mouth watering Chaat. I have explained what Chaat is in one of my reviews, here . Bay Area has an abundance of authentic Chaat paradises. Sampling some of the said Chaat is an absolute agenda on our itinerary. We make it a point to stuff our faces with all the good stuff while we are there. And, we can never have enough. Vik's is so huge, I can fit my gym in it. It also has a grocery shop attached to it. You order food from the menu on the wall and give it to the person at the kitchen counter, where you pick it up from. Vik's Chaat Corner The seating area at Vik's We ordered the Dahi batata puri - Small round puffed bread filled with potatoes and other spices, topped with yogurt and tamarind chutney. The finger licking good part is the tangy mixture at the bottom of the plate, once the puris have made their way into your gut. Ummm... I now need to wipe the drool off my laptop. Dahi Batata Puri We also got a plat

The pungent smell of spices wafting down the street in west Berkeley is unmistakable. Located in an industrial area on Allston Avenue , a tiny area has become the unlikely hub for Indian food

You are likely to find me here. I love this place and try to come once a week. Traditions! I spent many years getting meals here weekly, it has been a hard habit to break. If you go, try to arrive around 11:45 or 2pm to avoid the lines (though its not too much of a wait) Get the special of the day. If you have 3-4 people just skip the special and get 4-5 chaat to share. Not fine dinning, not a real sit down restaurant, but memorable, delicious and worth every penny. This place is habit forming, beware.

Vik's Chaat Corner is a busy Indian restaurant in the more industrial area of Berkeley. Chaat means "to lick". Traditionally this is known as road side snacks that made people lick every last morsel. They have have a regular menu, and add different specia

I really am naive when it comes to Indian cuisine. Suddenly I have an Indian roomie, Veena, and the golden opportunity for education. Veena rooms with me during the week and then returns to her home in Concord for the weekend. This weekend I went to her p
