Royal James is an unexpected treat.
It's bare bones without any frills. Exactly the kind of place you go to after a long night and the morning calls for a beer and greasy food to settle what ails you.
I ordered the Philly and it was perfect. Exactly what you would like a Philly to be... soft bread, plenty of meat and cheese with onions, mushrooms and banana peppers. My companion kept it simple with a Cheeseburger.
Add a basket of fries and two ice cold Yuenglings and it was perfection.
All for $20.
This place is cash only. An indication of how old school it is right there. So bring cash or be prepared to pay $3 at the in house ATM.
UPDATE// This has become our go-to place after a night with too many glasses of wine. Both the food and service is solid. The prices are very reasonable and the people watching is priceless. An absolute local treasure!

We didnt eat, we came here for drinks and live music. They had an open mic night, so we got the local talent. Very cool, fun and good tunes. Nice little hangout, if you like live music!

Cash only, but excellent food for the best and most honest price a restaurant can offer. My brother-in-law, father-in-law, and myself all ate and played pool for a total of $21. Can't beat it!

In a way I don't want to rate it so highly because it's a hidden gem in Beaufort. I saw typical tourists turn their nose as they walked by and that's their loss. This place is a local's bar and isn't meant for outsiders but if you visit the food is great, inexpensive, and there are lots of beer on tap. Best hotdog ever.

This is a rating for lunch time on a weekday in May. Place doesn't look like much, definitely a pool hall, probably a very different vibe at night. However absolutely one of the best burgers that I've had in a long time and the service was fantastic. Highly recommend for a lunch time burger.

Excellent place for a family lunch and a game of pool! They have affordable, delicious burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches and fries. When you can feed a family of 6 for $40 and have fun...outstanding accomplishment!
