Review Don Jose's Grill - Baton Rouge

The $10 margarita, not pictured, was excellent, and in my top 3 for choices in Baton Rouge. The queso was smooth and tasted like it was made from scratch. The ceviche did not not have a fishy flavor, and was served with fresh veggies, in a nice marinade.

What can I say but WOW!!! Finding great Mexican food is a passtime of mine. Being from Texas I am a little snobby about my tex-mex and mexican food. I'm so glad we decided to try this new place out!! From the moment you walk in they make you feel very welcome and at home! Our waiter was very friendly, young and a little shy, but very attentive. Several staff checked on us throughout our dinner to see if we were ok or needed anything. LOVE THIS! I asked about a couple of items on the menu and while the server didn't know he was quick to get my question answered. The house margarita is spectacular! Not like the normal watered down house ones you get elsewhere. We didn't wait long for dinner at all. And the food was great!! I love that they don't overload it with cheese, common mistake. In fact, I had to ask for a little bit of sprinkle cheese on top of my burrito (and they happily obliged with just the right amount) The meat was super tasty, great portion. The spanish rice is AMAZING! I would go back just for this!! I dare to say no one in this city serves it like this (or at least not that I've found). The fajitas were pretty good, though the steak was a little overcooked and flavorless for us. But I'm sure that can be fixed if asked. And again....I love that they didn't do the common mistake of serving it with shredded chedder (or any other inappropriate) cheese. there are so many other options I'd love to try on their menu. I could see the other dishes being served and am anxious to try those as well! This definitely is NOT the standard Tex-Mex, definitely more authentic Mexican. I asked for another margarita as we were getting the check. Our server asked if I wanted it to go, seeing that we were done eating. I keep forgetting where I moved to and that that is an option! WHY YESSSSSSS was my reply! It was brought quickly, all sealed up and ready for me to enjoy at home! This place has raised the bar on Mexican dining in Baton Rouge! They are doing it right! The atmosphere is great and brand new. The server was respectful and tenative and the manager was very present. Our whole experience took about 45 mins, so very quick! Salsa is good and fresh tasting. I got the california burrito. It was very good for the price. I would for sure recommend giving them a visit. They are newly opened so we went on a saturday night and the head count was very small for such a prime night. I think they deserve to have a line out the door! The chairs are comfy too!

Oh lord, the margaritas are huge! But the alcohol content is ok, so If you have to go back to work you can order the medium one. I got the fajita bowl and the meat was good, but it was too oily; my friend got the enchiladas di mole and they were amazing.

This was a place we stopped by on our way to florida. Great service and food! Would definitely stop by here again.

The food was just ok. The service was ok too. I probably won't return. It's a bit pricey in here as well.

If you had 10 stars I would give it 11! This place is THE place to have a wonderful lunch or dinner! The atmosphere is wonderful. The wait staff is supreme, especially Zack! The owners are always on top of things. When I lived near there I would go every week. Since I moved to Walker I go when I can and it is worth the drive. Price is exceptional compared to the quality of the food. Management is quick to spot issues and correct them.

My daughter and I have been planning to try this place since it opened and we just did The food was delicious and very reasonable. The server was very attentive to all our needs. This is definitely a great place to eat out.

Haley was one of the top wait staff we’ve ever experienced. She did not steer us wrong once. I kept saying, “this is the best pollo loco ever!” The Daiquiris we’re large and tasty.

Five stars! Wonderful! Very attentive staff, manager came by to see how everything was. Our server, whose name I do not know, (college student from Ft Worth) was excellent! Best Mexican food we've had in a long time! Not having had Mexican food for a month in Florida, we took a chance on Don Jose's after seeing the reviews. So glad we did! The bean dip with queso was the best ever. We ordered 'The Cookout' - also great- grilled chicken,steak,shrimp with chorizo, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions. With beans, rice, guacamole, sour cream, pico and tortillas. Husband said margaritas was great! I highly recommend this restaurant! Please give them a try!

Came here tonight with a church cinco de mayo fellowship dinner. Amazing food. Amazing drinks - even made one I had a craving for - peach margarita with a few jalapeño slices and some juice. Perfect! Our waiter and the hostess was fantastic!

Food is amazing! It's our favorite Mexican spot in town. Service is even better! Love their fresh margaritas!! Highly recommend!

We accidentally found this restaurant and we're certainly glad we did. The food was excellent and the staff was super friendly! If I lived in Baton Rouge I would make this a regular place to eat out.

The atmosphere is by far the most amazing of Mexican Restaurants around town. The owner and staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent as well, large portions and perfect seasonings! I'm a Mexican food junkie so I will definitely be back!

This is my new jam. Great margaritas and can't go wrong with a good ol taco. I've been here five times and two of the times , ordered queso and it never came out but it probably would have ruined my appetite anyway. This place is my new favorite and they have a great band on Friday nights.

My wife & I ate at Don Jose’s for the first time a couple of nights ago. From beginning to end, it was a completely pleasant experience! The restaurant itself is big and fixed up nicely. We were seated right away by a friendly hostess, and we were right by the three-piece band that sounded great and didn’t play extremely loudly. The waiter was very polite and attentive, and our food came out quickly. And it was great!! Prices were very reasonable, too. We will definitely be back, and I encourage anybody to check out this place.

Ambiance was very recognizable when u first walk in and could really turn into something nice. Food was great and large portions, service was also great and very quick. Once they downsize and get some notoriety - it will be a great place!

The ceviche I had was tremendous. Fresh and vibrant. Have eaten here several times and the service has always been fantastic.

The food was very good and we had great service. Took my leftovers home and my hubby said that it was the best he's ever had. He not much on Mexican food!

Had a wonderful night with daughter and her friend , food was great and the band was nice. Would recommend to family and friends.

First time to visit! Our waitress Annabel was always attentive. Enjoyed carne asada! Love the atmosphere-compliments to designers! We will be back for sure!!!

My boyfriend and I have been here about 5 times and every time has been just as great. Great customer service and the food is delicious and always comes hot! We have had Zach as our sever a few times but every server we have had has been just as wonderful and personable. We love getting the margaritas and my favorite is the Texas chimichanga with chicken�! It's one of our new fav Mexican restaurants.
