If you check out Makoto on any social media page you’ll find endless photos of spicy tuna on top of sticky rice, and for good reason. Aside from the amazing Asian cuisine, the ambience is relaxing and romantic in the heart of Bal Harbour shops. Stop in for lunch or dinner and you won’t be disappointed.
Makoto is part of a restaurant chain that has over 30 food establishments in several cities of the United States, some of them in Florida, as is the case with Le Zoo, Steak 954 and Continental. The preparation and presentation of the dishes is classy and tasteful . Their specialty is Japanese food and the robata or robatayaki (literally, fireside-cooking), which can be enjoyed al fresco or indoors. Don't forget to bring your credit card, it will come in handy.

The dessert is probably the BEST dessert I EVER had! (And I'm a baker), you have to try it to believe it...
I just keep on going back for those two. Not everything is very good though... My fish often comes too cook -sea bass- some dishes are not as tasty as others. Portions are chi-chi small (but I'm totally fine with that!)
Nice outside sitting area, service can be slow, but waiters are usually very nice.

I can't say enough about the quality of the food at Makoto. This place consistently serves excellent food at a price point well below restaurants of comparable quality, of which there aren't many. I go here pretty much once a week for lunch. Look for Andrea at the bar in the center of the shops for some entertaining conversation. Try everything on the menu, there are so many good dishes!

One of the best in S. FL. If you frequent to places like Morimoto, Buddakan, Steak 954 or Nobu you will love this place too. This is one of Starr Restaurant family. Above average Japanese restaurant where you can expect best of the best in service, quality of food ingredients and presentation. Chef Makoto has worked under very talented sushi Masters in Japan & US including being Morimoto’s assistance for years. I would not say he is the best in the country but his culinary skill exceeds Morimoto’s level and certainly the best Sushi chef in south Florida. Whatever he creates is not the fake stuff you see on the Iron Chef show (An Iron chef hires chefs to create menu for him and the Iron chef gets the credits). Selection of fish is not as wide as Morimoto NYC but I guess this is the best they could do down here. I am not too crazy about Americanized Sushi so whenever Makoto is there I do the Omakase otherwise order from Robata menu. When you decide to go there, think it is like a going to a theater, enjoy the ambience, watch chefs in action and get ready to take photos when the servers bring your food. Indulge yourself into the ultimate culinary creation and don’t worry about your bill. You can always get a loan.
Outstanding Japanese food. This is our new favorite restaurant in Miami Beach. The food is excellent, and beautifully presented. The ambiance of the restaurant is very pleasing, either inside, or on the beautiful tropical patio. It is in the Bal Harbor Shops, and is situated right next to the pond with the koi fish and turtles. The experience was so outstanding that we ate there 5 times in 9 days!
It's Good. It's good, really good. Yes it's expensive, but it's in Bal Harbour. What do you expect?
Nice restaurant. Prices are very reasonable for the location, the sushi rolls are not that big but they are delicious same with the spice tuna crispy rice, I ordered mochi for dessert and it was sooo good but also small. Service was great, ambiance was good. Located in a good spot.
Quite a treat!. We shopped and then had a great meal. The staff could not be more pleasant! The fish was presented beautifully and tasted delicious! Tuna with crispy rice was divine!
We had such an amazing meal the first time we went that we actually went back again the next day for an encore. The service was great. The food was tasty and well presented. We had asked them to bring out their most popular dishes until we were full and they did not disappoint. Everything photographed was delicious. I highly recommend all the items we got.
What a special space. I love the new Makoto on the 3 floor. So much more space and a feeling of luxury. Food is always delicious and service is always great. Highly recommend the Brussels and rock shrimp.
Can’t go wrong with any of their sushi rolls. My friend got chicken and rice and enjoyed her plate.

The food here is fantasic, all fresh ingredients, from the fish to the waygu beef. They use koshihikari rice, which gives the sushi a slightly different, but above average taste and consistency. Even the coffee was excellent. The only negatives aside from the price (which is to be expected in Bar Harbour Shops) is that it is loud - no baffling for the sound indoors where we were seated, which resulted in not being able to hear the person next to me, nor could the waiter hear us at times, which resulted in missing a part of our order. I didn't take points off for that because it wasn't his fault and when we asked for it again, it came out quickly. Otherwise, the service was excellent. The restaurant is also very yellow on the inside (reflected in the attached pics), if you don't like yellow and you want to be able to carry on a conversation, try to get a seat outside.
Class, cool, and extremely safe. I stopped by for a drink even though I had no intention to do so. I was pleasantly surprised. Their food was good and the drinks were delicious. Their Mojito was just too yummy. Its great place just to have a drink at the open bar outside by yourself or food and drinks with family or friends. Also, because it is in Bal Harbour shops, it feels very safe and in many ways, a return to a time where one could go for a drink all alone and feel very safe. A definite Place visit

Location: located on the 3rd floor. Easy access by elevator. Recommended to valet park for less walk.
Weekday wasnt bad at all. Outdoor wait time 15 mins. Indoor was immediately.
Atmosphere: WONDERING. Beautiful bright yellow lights. Super modern and HIGH-END vibes. Friendly and knowledgeable staffs. Everything was spotless clean!
After our dinner, the manager came to make sure everything was good.
Below are our order. No matter what make sure do NOT miss the SALAD. Any option are recommended. All the salad was VERY UNIQUE and different vibes.

Sushi menu / nigri are amazing. Very fresh and high quality. Especially the OMAKASE or the $60 sushi samples (11 pieces + 1 rolls).
Wagyu Beef is a must try! For the price - it was worth it!
Dinner for 3 end up less than $200 before tips.

Makoto at it's new location is a total new experience, as always food and service are excellent. Now the outside seating area is fresh and bigger and doesn't have the pollution of the parking lot, the inside is more tropical.
Makoto is one of my favorite restaurants in Miami. Everything on the menu is incredible!! They never miss. The drinks are also fantastic. The butterfly pea tea drink is one of the best drinks I’ve ever had. Crispy Tuna is a MUST-TRY. As well as the hamachi crudo.
Not your typical cliche Japanese restaurant. The food here is amazing. The flavor is deep plus the presentation is memorable. If you do not have a reservation you might need to wait for an hour but it’s worth it. Ian their manager is very accommodating and very professional. Our server was knowledgeable of the food. We will be back!
