Just "rolling" out of Benji's, in Bakersfield, "rolling", because I'm so full, of amazing food.
Benji's Basque Restaurant, worth every mile, and hour, to get there.
Rack of Lamb, cooked to perfection with a seasoned, light sauce made from the juices. Garlic potatoes, small chunks cooked to perfection, light crust on the outside, garlic seasoned without the bitter aftertaste that can come from using garlic powder, instead of garlic cloves.
For a little extra, do yourself a favor, and get the beans & soup, along with the house bread, you've got a sumptuous feast, before the meal! Did I mention to come hungry? Cause you won't leave that way.
The piece de resistance?
Benji's soufflés! You can get chocolate, Grand Marnier, lemon, and one more I can't remember. You need to order your soufflé, when you order your meal, that way it will be done when you are.
It's like eating a light, delicious, chocolate cloud. It's perfect. It's even more perfect, because they give you the big bowl of extra soufflé filling, (kind of like getting the beaker of extra milkshake), on the side!
Yes! No lie! They are wonderful!
Needless to say, if you're in Bakersfield, or even if you're not, take the time, make the trip, and treat yourself to Benji's Basque Restaurant, I swear you will not regret it.

Always the best. I’ve been going to Benji’s since my parents started taking us there when I was a little girl and they were located on Union. They have THE BEST soup, beans, and pickled tongue in town. It was my bday meal this time so I ordered escargot and frogs legs as appetizers and shrimp scampi for the main course. It was all delicious as usual and my 3 sons couldn’t say enough about their steak, fried chicken, and steak and shrimp kabob main courses. For me and my family, Benji’s is the best basque restaurant in Bakersfield.
