Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen

Great everything!. My son and I went to Cheddar's for the first time and we will absolutely be back. We lucked out and got there early on a Sunday afternoon and was seated right away. I noticed lots of other patrons after us having to wait quite a long time, but that is the price you pay when you eat at prime time in a good restaurant. Our waitress, Caitlyn, was very sweet and took care of us nicely thruout the meal. I have to say, the restaurant was beautiful... even the bathrooms were nice! The meal was excellent. My son had the chicken and waffles and I had the Buffalo chicken wrap. I thought the menu had a great variety of items to choose from. The pricing was awesome. And, one thing that stood out to me and no one would probably give two hoots about was that the napkins were good napkins. Of course, they were disposable. But I hate it when you go to a restaurant and you have to have a boatload of napkins because the restaurant uses cheap napkins. I have to say, this was a great place to eat. But, be prepared for a wait if you come at a prime time.

Just added another favorite.... Visited on a Sunday Afternoon, no wait to be seated. Super friendly server and attentive as well. We ordered a lot (wanted to try everything).

The portions are huge! Onion Rings are a must. Queso was so/so. I had the fried chicken tenders and fried shrimp plate, it was very very good. Wife got the country fried steak, it is not processed and therefore was a little tough, but still good. she did not enjoy the potatoes or the gravy but I thought both were pretty decent. Red Beans and Rice was fabulous!

The best part was the bill, I expected to pay way more than I did, very good prices for what you get.

QUICK SUMMARY - There used to be a Cheddar's here in Indianapolis (38th & Lafayette Rd area) several years ago and now they've returned at this new Avon location and finally got a chance to try it! Arrive early or off hours unless you don't mind long wait times to eat with the herd at typical feeding hours. Food is decent but not worth anything near waiting over 20 minutes for, so one might opt for other comparable places in the Avon area such as TGI Fridays, Texas Roadhouse, O'Charley's that serve pretty much the same type of fare. You'll be able to get immediate seating at those places since everyone else is herding at this newly opened joint right now! Believe me, we visited all I just listed when we refused to wait anything near an hour to be seated. Once we were finally seated, there were plenty of wait staff to supply surprisingly good service considering newly opened location and amount of people vying to eat here.

DETAILED SUMMARY - After three attempts to visit this newly opened location for dinner with waits averaging 46-51 minutes (their quote - weird estimate?) and that was as early as 5pm, we were finally able to dine here this past Friday with putting our name on the wait list at 4:00pm with a wait (16-21 minutes - still weird estimate?). Apparently we got there just in time before the "wait time" went through the roof. People were waiting everywhere and clogging up the notably less than adequate aisle ways that servers needed to shuttle food & seat patrons. The outside dining area has been relegated to waiting patrons versus outdoor dining.

Chips & Homemade Queso - The queso arrived a little setup but it was very good. The tortilla chips were extremely plain tasting. We salted to give some taste to them. They don't supply enough chips with the original dish but will resupply if requested.

House Salad - Includes Croissant and choice of dressing. They offer fresh ground pepper upon serving the salad from a lack pepper mill. Salad was okay at best. Enough leafy parts to cover chopped stalks. Hate stalks!

Honey Butter Croissant - Pretty much a large Croissant with a coating of honey butter. Everyone seems to hang their hat on the bread here somewhat like the O'Charley's dinner rolls. Regardless, pretty much average tasting towards the dry side and would of loved if they had included some butter to better ratio the taste of bread to butter.

Homemade Chicken Pot Pie - Wife said this dish was decent tasting, she preferred this same dish from Bob Evans.

Country Fried Steak - The entree I ordered was decent tasting. The steak was fork tender around the edges but required a knife towards the middle. The breading was very good but thin and typically slid off the meat while trying to coax it onto the fork. Doubt I'll order this again. The gravy was uneventful. Had better at Chili's & Bob Evans if we are talking chain restaurants and not local.

As far as sides are concerned, I ordered the corn and mashed potatoes. The corn was buttery & fresh tasting. Very good! The mashed potatoes were sticky, clumpy, and mindful of cafeteria style. The gravy on the mashed potatoes was the same as on the Country Fried Steak and continued to be uneventful.

Where did the Wisconsin Cheese Soup go that the old Cheddar's used to serve before leaving Indy?????

While we will not purposely seek this place out specifically to have dinner, we wouldn't flat out refuse to eat here again...

Great Place. The food is great. The wait time is lengthy at certain times of the day due to it recently opening and the restaurant being so great. The prices are inexpensive and the food taste great. I have been twice since it has opened and will be there once a week. The Honey Butter Crosaints are great!!!!!

Great food, drinks, all at a reasonable price. This is a restaurant of choice and always gets my recommendation when people ask where to go in the Avon area. This place gets a perfect 5 out of 5 and I am posting photos to show why that I can justify that score. Honestly never had a bad meal here and we come here often. When you need something different with many food choices to pick from - this is your place!

The most amazing food, great service. Out first time there and will 💯 be back. Broccoli 🥦 cheddar casserole side is a must have

Absolutely the best chicken Caesar salad chicken is lemon pepper nice juicy and flavorful ! Highly recommend for salad, didn’t really care for the lemonade too tangy but the strawberry sweet tea perfect!!

Cheddar’s was great tonight!!! Our server was outstanding!!! She’s a teacher during the school year and she was working here in the summer. She was outstanding! I wish I could remember her name because I wish we would have servers like her always. She was super friendly, courteous, kind, and attentive. The food was good but the service was amazing!!!
