AMAZING FOOD!! So authentic they do not have queso. We had the Pastor and Cochinita. Will definitely return. Worth every penny...good size portions.
This is some good Mexican authentico food! Guacamole was awesome! Verde sauce on the enchiladas! Also the hot sauce on the counter!! Very hot but great!!
So authentic, you'll be afraid to drink the water! Great food, handmade, not fast food or mass produced.
Authentic Interior. As others have said, this place has authentic interior food. They made the guacamole fresh when I ordered it, and served it in the stainless mixing bowl. Nothing fancy, but the food is wonderful.
If you like the street tacos found along Riveria Maya and on Cozumel, then this is as close as I've found in Austin. This is the only place that includes grilled pineapple in their Al Pastor tacos.
They offer several different sauces. Yes, you have to pay for chips, but that's only a small downer for a excellent place. Shady, yes, in the hood, yes, but take a chance, you'll be surprised.
El Meson is fantastic Restaurant. This location is a great place to bring family, date night, girls night out. They also offer for you to reserve the restaurant for events, parties, gatherings. Food preparation, and taste is authentic Mexican food, one of the best in Austin. Management is so personal and the staff I can’t say enough terrific!
Very great authentic Mexican food ! Went there for the 11am-1pm buffet and about 8 items were laid out. The buffet menu changes daily never the same. I tried everything from pork to bears and rice. The tilapia was very well seasoned . Several vegetables as well. The food was very mom-and pops tasted it was made from scratch with love. Stop by and give them a shout
Breakfast taco was delicious, Al Pastor wasn’t great. Friendly and fast though.
This is the first El Meson, which was right down the street from where I used to work. Our department got morning tacos all the time (which were better than the tacos that the others procured for special occasions). We even ate there for lunch every once in a while. It was always pretty good with reasonable prices. A few times I went there though, the air was out. Mexican food in a hot building for lunch is not ideal.
I love their chorizo and egg tacos. They are well proportioned and Monday through Friday until 10am they are only $1.50! What’s not to love? Clean and friendly restaurant, while I wait for my car serviced at Howdy Honda.
This review is just for the menudo and tacos - the bacon and egg tacos were really good. The tortillas are homeade And def have that homeade feel! The menudo was good too! Much better than a few other places I've tried
Yes, the music was extremely loud. It was a bit much while i was waiting for my food to go.
They didn't have the typical green and red salsas which is a bummer..... But nonetheless the food was good. I'll def be going back.
Giving 5 because I don't want to hurt their score just to make a comment.
Apparently lunch/dinner is now buffet only, and your options look a bit sparse. I hope they can bring back a full menu eventually as its usually very good food

Good food here. One of my favorite lunch spots. For some reason, the soda machine is always out of order. I miss when they made fresh tea vs the weird tea machine they installed.
Went for lunch, salsas were on point, I enjoyed the mole and al pastor. Maybe because breakfast is so popular, they were out of avacado and chips, the pinto beans were runny and rice a little bland. I would give them another try for sure!
I was introduced to El Meson by a friend who knows good food. I was really surprised at how good the food was. Don't let the old building and decor fool you: El Meson is legit mexican food. They had two salsas, both of which were amongst the best I've ever had. The food seems less Tex-Mex than most shops around Austin, which is a nice relief for those of us who prefer a truer Mexican food. I'd highly recommend El Meson!
