we went on a whim, and were so happy with everything, the food was authentic, the best menu we have seen in years!! FRIED RICE WAS GREAT. will be back soon.
I had the lamb skewers and spicy lamb noodles that were both good. The noodle dish could have been improved with crunchy vegetables. They should make ice available at the self service water dispenser. The menu is very limited.
The food was great. There are a number of dishes offered. Pork, chicken, beef and lamb are available in a wide array of combinations. Noodles are hand made on site and the were some of the best I've ever had.
The owner made lamb and leek pies for himself and offered one to us and I must say I will be getting some the next time I eat there.
We also had steamed pork dumplings as well which were very tasty.
An adjacent diner ordered lamb skewers which looked very tasty as well.
Been coming for years, best Chinese food around, don’t let the looks from outside fool you. Got the lunch special for under $9. Order on the phone and is ready in 10 minutes.
I mostly wanted to add a review to counteract so many recent negative reviews. Me and my family went in on Thanksgiving Day to get a non-traditional meal. The food was quick, hot, and delicious! We had the fried dumplings, curry chicken fried rice, combination soft noodles, walnut shrimp, and Peking Pork. I would recommend any of the dishes! It is certainly set against a rustic background with evidence of cracked tiles and storage of restaurant items such as plates, forks, etc in plain view but the service was friendly and the food was great!
If you like authentic mom and pop Chinese I highly suggest this place. I went for a late lunch with my cousin at 2, we ordered and the food came out in 10 minutes flat. We got fried dumplings, steamed dumplings and black bean noodles. It was all perfectly seasoned and very yummy. The owner was very nice and welcoming. The price was fair and I if I come back to Austin I will definitely be returning. Very small business, only 8ish tables, so don't expect chain restaurants service, they are a small business. All great price for the portions.
Rare find. So fresh and delicious!!! Authentic food, good service, clean, affordable. We had dumplings as our appetizer, pork chop in Peking sauce and BBQ pork soft noodles.
Our new fav!!
Best scallion pancakes in town, easily. Friendly atmosphere and me and my wife had a great meal. Definitely coming back.
I really enjoyed the noodle soups and dumplings here at Chen Z. I got the Lamb Noodle Soup which had fresh noodles and perfectly cut chunks of lamb in a broth with bok choy. The broth was decent, sadly not too much flavor, but still excellent. The huge portion size made up for that. We also had the pan fried dumplings (12) and they were amazing! Cooked well and fried just right. Not to mention, the prices are great. They range from $8-10. I'm excited to see a really good Chinese restaurant in the area and can't wait to return.
fantastic food. nice portion sizes. fair prices. I love this place. Would love if anyone could drop some reccomendations on their favorite things to eat here. I live nearby so I go often. This is a small family owned business. One of the few left around this area. Show them your love
This place is exactly what I needed. Highly recommend the spicy wontons and the orange chicken. The spicy beef noodle soup was also fantastic.
Very authentic, high quality food. Very good service. Don't let the look fool you.
This is my first time experiencing Northern China cuisine in Austin and I am so sorry that it took me so long to visit Chen Z. If you're in search of a romantic setting and designer decor, go elsewhere. This venue is as stark as they get but I came for the food. The menu is on the wall and after perusing, one can order, be given a number and the order will be brought to your table.
For an appetizer, the green onion pancake was ordered.
I ordered the lamb stir fried noodle that I thoroughly enjoyed however, I would have preferred slices of lamb instead of the little cubes.
My fellow foodie had gone to the juice shop next door to get the fresh watermelon juices and while he was gone, his order of cold beef arrived which I almost totally consumed.
I had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, Shirley, who was very gracious. I, without fail, will return as I saw many other items on the wall that I would like to experience.
