I've driven by this place several times and I finally decided to check them out.
Service: I expected to be seated by a host or hostees, instead I was greeted by the bar tender that was very nice. He advised me to grab a menu, it's open seating, and then take your order back up the register to pay for my order. The bar tender was very friendly and provided great enthusiasm, and this is where the service stopped. I had fix my own drink, grab my own silverware, and what ever items I might have needed for my meal. With that being said, I was confused when asked to tip during the paying process and I was doing majority of the work at this point. I used my Samsung phone to pay for my food with the credit card kiosk and the staff at the register did not know you can pay with your phone but he did mention that it would not work with an Apple phone. Besides the cook and the bar tender, there was not much work be preformed. The staff cleaning the tables was trying to find work to do on this slow Friday night. I assume it was the manager in the light blue shirt that was just walking and standing around. I believe additional customer service training would be helpful (besides the bar tender).
Food: From the pictures online and the selection of food, I was really eager to try their selections. Well I really disappointed by the flavor of the the food. I ask for fajita steak omelet and the steak meat had no seasoning. Way too many onions for my liking, and the cheese did not melt all the way through. The chicken and waffles was not that impressive. The chicken again had no seasoning and had no crisp or crunch to it. Syrup was like brown water and the waffle was just a waffle. I order chip & queso as well and this was a tomato bowl with cheese on top.
Overall: Unfortunately, I can't really recommend this place. They may have great drinks or desserts but appetizers and entrees was not that good. Be aware, if you want to have starter before your entree, you have to pay for the starter first then you have to come back and pay for your entree separately. This place too big to not have a waiter staff and have more flavor to their food. I hope them well in the future but I think this will be my first and last time visiting. If they work on their customer service, flavor of their food, and the arrangement of the restaurant, then there maybe an opportunity in the future.

I went into Black Walnut Cafe for breakfast. What a wonderful place. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with Cheesy Grits, a Bacon and Cheddar Kolache and a Caramel Macchiato. My daughter had the Chicken and Waffles, Ham and Mozzarella Kolache and White Chocolate Mocha. The food was delicious!
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Being our first time there they told us exactly where to go and what to do. I will be back.

Order at the front register, they bring your food. Ordered eggs Benedict and the Mexicanos, subbed for scrambled eggs for over easy. Everything was cooked perfectly and food came out fast. Very happy and will be back!

Andre took our order and was very friendly and helpful. Our food, however, was an unfortunate experience. One dish was overcooked and the other was both over and under
cooked simultaneously. This was quite a different experience from our last visit several months ago. We specifically came back for the Asian Nachos, because they were so damn good last time and were disappointed with the quality and presentation comparatively. Danielle made absolutely sure we were happy with our experience before we left, though (thanks Danielle, you're the best!) It seems they're going through some sort of transition, so I'm hopeful when I give them another shot, it won't be a let down.

Place is great and has tons of breakfast/brunch options so make sure to check the website. They also open really early for any early risers. Had a cup of coffee and a scone to accompany my meal and I was impressed. Our food and service was prompt and enjoyable, drinks weren't to expensive and the lunch crowd wasn't too busy. Will certainly be returning here!

Our meal at this location was for breakfast. First, it's a order, pay, self drink/napkins serve type atmosphere. It's a little hard for me to tip before any service is rendered so that- I didnt like. However, the food was fabulous. The migas and donut bites pictured were so delicious. The meal was fresh, hearty, and worth the price. It's a very relaxing vibe type restaurant that is priced adequately, would recommend for a breakfast venue, would return given the need.

Black Walnut has become a staple for my go-to restaurants, mainly because it's a 3 minute walk from my apartment. Overall, they have a great menu, with many options for anyone who is feeling either breakfast, lunch, or dinner at whatever time they go during business hours. I don't know of many places that have morning happy hours, this one starts at 7 am and goes until 10:30 am M-F.
Their "Frenchie" (pictured) is AWESOME! I've also tried their grilled cheese and tomato basil soup. I prefer the soup over the sandwich. They have yummy desserts too. So if you're looking for a casual place to either brunch with friends or stop by for a quick happy hour, this place is great for that.

I enjoyed by first visit. Cafe style, order at the register, with a full bar with pub style seating.
Really enjoyed my chicken and waffles. While each item was average when tasted seperately, when combined everything complimented each other very well.
We also had a burger and fries at the table. Burger meat was average, but homestyle pickes, and thick cut fries were good.
I liked the relaxed atmosphere without the rushed feeling that can come with sitting around too long at a table with table service. I plan to go back to try the desserts and mixed drinks.
