Took my wife to Bar Mercado for date night and we left full and happy. They just revamped the menu and so we ordered a bunch of dishes to share. Everything we ordered was delicious! Flavors were bold and complex and dishes were simple, light, and straightforward. Some of my favorites were the Pollo Asado, Mussels, and Avocado salad.
We arrived at Bar Mercado on a weeknight without reservations and were able to be seated without waiting. The crowd was lively, but we were able to converse without strain. The flavors of the food burst as we ate, particularly the hay-smoked carrots, the cauliflower, the clams and the oyster mushrooms. The pork ribs were a bit tough for small plates and the octopus was chewy with no taste. The plating for each tapa was visually appealing. None of the sauces overwhelmed the primary focus of the dish. I would definitely go back.
The Latin atmosphere creates a sensual vibe that can be enjoy with family members and friends or a brunch date. The food was amazing, customer service could have been better. The wait times once seated was long, making a brunch outing a dinner date. But overall I would highly recommend. Krog market place never disappoints!
Finding a vegan friendly restaurant is difficult, especially a restaurant that is vegan friendly and has non-vegan food (for my boyfriend). Bar Mercado & Recess have merged so you receive a menu with both options!!
We came here Monday November 22,2021. If you did not know they do $5 house margaritas on Monday! They are flavorful, strong, and good.
Ordered vegan friendly appetizers on the Bar Mercado side.
Appetizers: Avocado salad, cauliflower, and chicken empandas (my boyfriend order 3 because he said they were really good). He also ate my appetizers (which he never eats anything vegan) and he loved the avocado salad and cauliflower (and he does not like cauliflower), but that was the most flavorful cauliflower we have had at a restaurant.
Ordered vegan friendly entree on Recess menu.
Entree: Tom Cruz (VEGAN BOWL ) that has good flavor, its like a Spanish bowl, coconut rice, beans, corn, impossible chorizo , vegan cashew chipotle cream, kale, and red onions. (check the Recess menu). My boyfriend ordered from the Bar Mercado side, and he ordered a chef special which is not on the menu.
Dessert: Tres Leche (Bar Mercado Menu) *NOT VEGAN FRIENDLY* It is vegetarian. My boyfriend loved the cake, if you don't know Tres Leche is 3 milk cake, they topped it with coconut and a jam. presentation was nice and it smelled good!
Overall: We will be back, not only was the food delicious but our service was top notch. AMAZING SERVER name Cliffton! He was extremely knowledgeable, nice, outgoing, patient when explaining the food, and constantly was checking on us even though he was serving several other tables. We told him he is the best server we have ever had. He is clearly a hard worker with an amazing personality. ASK FOR CLIFFTON AS YOUR SERVER IF YOU GO(:
Photos include: strawberry margarita, avocado salad (vegan), chicken empanada, cauliflower (vegan), tom cruz bowl (vegan), tres leche.

Updated Review: I was very impressed with how seriously the restaurant management took my previous review. I spoke on the phone with the general manager and she assured me that she would speak with her team about my concerns. She invited me back to try some different menu options. When I returned, I decided to try a vegetarian dish, as I now know they do not have white meat only dishes. I got the Superbowl with broccoli and enjoyed it! The ingredients in the bowl are pretty plain but make a nice combination. In the future, I would be more likely to come by for lunch than dinner. Again, I appreciate how the management values customer satisfaction!
Previous Review: We had dinner at Bar Mercado on a Saturday night after calling ahead to put our name on the list for the patio. We appreciated the option to do this rather than have to first go to the restaurant and wait for an hour.
Overall, our group enjoyed the food. The tapas we ordered were the grilled shrimp, corn on the cob, and empanadas. My friends really liked the short rib empanadas but were not as into the veggie one. The shrimp was too spicy for me, but my boyfriend enjoyed it. For our entrees, we got the skirt steak, the pollo asada plate, and the mercado bowl with chicken. The 4 entrees came out at different times, which is frustrating for a group because then people with their food have to wait for the rest of the food to come out.
Again, overall everyone enjoyed their food, but there was one big disappointment for me. I asked two servers to confirm that the braised chicken was chicken breast. They guaranteed that it was, but when my food came, it was clearly not only chicken breast. When I asked my server about it, she kind of brushed it off and said there might be other parts of the chicken in it. Obviously I’m picky about chicken or I wouldn’t have asked about it before ordering. I didn’t want to make a big fuss, but it was disappointing that she didn’t offer to check with the kitchen again or get me another plate of chicken that was actually chicken breast, even though I was clearly upset. I enjoyed the small part of the chicken that was white meat and the rest of the dish, but this experience did not make me want to return to Bar Mercado.
Our experience was definitely worth five stars! The customer service, ambience, decor, music and food was excellent. We had the tapas glazed ribs, street corn, sweet plantains, grilled shrimp and for drinks we had Coquito from the Winter Cocktail menu. I highly recommend giving this place a try!
Gathered with a group of friends for Sunday brunch and ordered basically everything on the menu to share. The service was top notch as were the craft cocktails. The papas, shishito peppers and cauliflower are not to be missed.
The pollo asado was delicious, with crispy skin and then perfectly cooked tender chicken inside. It was a large portion, worth the price. The street corn was also tasty. Really chill atmosphere. Wish the drinks were a lil cheaper for the amount but c’est la vie
Went for brunch. The steak was a little bit chewy but the flavor was good. The empanadas were tasty.
Just finished dinner. Our server Darnell was nice and made great recommendations. We had the street corn, paella and oriental ribs (although I ordered the short ribs). Everything was very good. When the manager found out about the mix up he offered to bring us the short ribs but I was full and content with the oriental ribs. He offered dessert but the leche cake had coconut in which I'm allergic. He came back with the leche cake with strawberries that was very good. Thanks so much for the excellent customer service!
