It is a genuine SUSHI HOUSE. This place is no joke. No "supperhappy rolls". No "yuumy sauce #7". They have a few rolls on the menu, to make your friend who "likes sushi but is just not sure about eating raw fish, but came along anyway" happy. Everything else is Sushi, Sashimi and Udon-which they take very seriously, because they are serving it to a lot of first-generation Japanese folks who have zero-tolerance for theme-park versions of their food. They prepare the nigiri like there is no margin for error nor whimsical interpretation of what nigiri should be.
This is not your coworker's favorite sushi place, who also happens to think that Olive Garden is acceptable "Italian" food. This is not sushi as an afterthought or appetizer. This is sushi, as the chef's primary intention. And it shows.
That's not to say the service isn't friendly and lighthearted, or that the oddest of Japanese game-shows isn't playing on the overhead TV. Because they are, and it is. But this place is thoroughly Japanese. It is their mission to make you flawless sushi, and it is your obligation to enjoy it.
Oh and the sake, oh my the sake selection. Yes get some, and then some.
I have eaten at many sushi houses in Japan and this place can compare with some of the best. They import much of their stock from Japan and the Chef is a true Master. The rice is perfect and service ia great. I highly recommend it.
Even better than anticipated. There are only 8 seats at the bar right in front of Chef Hayakawa. We loved the interaction with Chef and his personable approach. I thought he might just talk about the food but he invited all types of questions on his history and approach. While I don’t think he cares that much (cause I asked) let’s hope he gets at least one Michelin star simply because it’s deserved (not that it matters cause it won’t change how amazing this place is).
A late review but after trying other Omakase places around, I can confidently tell you that this is the BEST Omakase experience you can get in Atlanta. Haya San (the chef) is very knowledgeable, and unlike other chefs who are relatively quiet during the preparation, he tells you everything about the food, and his life, and answers all your questions. The price tag is there, but the quality (and quantity) of the food, and the chef's engagement truly make it worth it.
Haya San is such a lovely personality, he really makes you feel like you are at his home. Fantastic food and service, be sure to talk to him during service and learn more about his life!
Hayakawa sushi bar is the first place I have ever experienced Omakase. The food is so fresh and delicious no questions about. The interior and elegant atmosphere is so delightful. It is just amazing. Haya San is a very charming and entertaining person. Big thanks to my kids for such a wonderful gift. @hayakawaatl

One of the things that makes Sushi Hayakawa in Atlanta so special is the chef's extensive experience and expertise. Chef Hayakawa has been in Atlanta for over 30 years, and during that time he has honed his craft and developed a deep understanding of Japanese cuisine.
His passion for high-quality ingredients and expert preparation is evident in every dish that comes out of the kitchen. Whether he's slicing sashimi, grilling fish, or crafting rolls, Chef Hayakawa takes great care to ensure that every dish is both visually stunning and incredibly delicious. My favorite bites were the OToro “fatty tuna” (this was an add on, and it wasn’t on the menu) and the Uni , which we chose to go with the hand roll.
In addition to his impressive culinary skills, Chef Hayakawa is also known for his warm and welcoming personality. He takes great pride in his work and loves nothing more than sharing his passion for Japanese cuisine with others. There is always something new to learn from him.
Since it was a Valentine’s Day dinner, the chef also gave all the women at the table. A single rose to take home.
Overall, Sushi Hayakawa long tenure in Atlanta and his dedication to his craft make this restaurant a must-visit destination for anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience.
Parking is also simple and easy. park in the parking deck and take the elevator up to level to level two. You can also get your parking ticket validated from the restaurant.
Great experience! Definitely a must visit when visiting Atlanta or if you’re a local. Haya San is a gracious host as he brings you on a culinary journey for the evening. We were honored to have been given a culinary tour of his home town through the various dishes, highlighted ingredients from Hokkaido. I would definitely come again. The space is also gorgeous
AN INCREDIBLE intimate Japanese dining experience led by chef Haya San. They import weekly sushi from Japan so you know you’re getting the BEST ingredients and the most authentic experience.
Still dreaming about the fatty tuna….we live in boston but will take a trip to ATL just to go back! Easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in my life!
If you’re looking for AUTHENTIC sushi this is it. Chef Hayakawa is one of a kind. I’ve been dining with him for years now and nothing in the city compares to this. I’m an avid foodie and tend to eat at the best sushi places everywhere in the world when I travel. Haya San is hands down one of the most passionate in his craft and shows in his food. The intimate connection during the meals are always great. Definitely deserves a Michelin star.
This is hands down the best sushi I've ever had. Everything we tried tasted better and better. The chef is a true matter of his craft. Not only was everything delicious but the way they put it together it's truly art. I'd recommend doing yourself a favor before you go and check their web page. Yes they have some "strict" rules but I feel it's all to help the experience. You will spend allot of money but it's worth every cent. The experience was so grand and entertaining. I look forward to my next visit.
The best. Every time we go it’s amazing. Wonderful staff and incredible food.
