Review Bone Garden Cantina - Atlanta

Shaun Young
Bone Garden Cantina is a solid Mexican restaurant. The food is good, but the service and atmosphere are great. I’m a purist when it comes to Mexican food, so I always start with a Rice, Bean & Cheese Burrito. If a restaurant does that well, along with good chips & salsa, I’ll come back to explore more of the menu. Even though Bone Garden doesn’t have a RBC on the menu, they attempted to make one for me. It was a solid try. The proportions were a bit off with it being mostly rice, but it was a good try. I also ordered The Tinga Taco and it was fantastic. If you make it between 3 and 6, the nachos are really good and a big portion for $10. On both visits, the service was awesome. Special shout to to Aaron and Andrew! With good food, a fun atmosphere and great service, Bone Garden Cantina will be on my shortlist of go-to spots in Atlanta - especially for Mexican food.

I took my partner here for his birthday since he loves Mexican. We had a great time. Food was delicious, service was nice, and it's fun atmosphere. We also got a free banana empanada (So yummy!). We highly recommend this place. It's tucked away behind the complex, which was different but added some privacy and tranquility.

Talk about a phenomenal spot!!! This is my ultimate favorite go-to Mexican lunch spot. And when I say go-to, I mean I frequent here at least once every other week. From the daily specials, to the drink of the month, to their always super delicious queso and salsa, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Truly! And don't get me started on the famous tacos. Actually, START with the tacos! What I'm getting at is that you're going to enjoy anything that's on the menu here. And the menu isn't the only thing you'll enjoy - the bartenders, wait staff, and, especially, the managers are all so damn phenomenal and will make you feel extremely welcomed. Just to name a few of these wonderful people - Tony, Aaron, Tess, the amazing twins, the truly talented WOMEN chefs, and one of the newest, Andrew! Can't recommend this place enough! And feel free to say hi to me if you see me here 🙂

Very nice restaurant. The decor is very beautiful, and the food was so good! The service was very fast, and the waitress was very polite. I was told it was good, but it passed my expectations fully. Highly recommend as a casual meal with friends or family.

Took some time to take my order apparently due to staffing issues behind the scenes but ultimately it all worked out! My server Keandre was great. The food and my margaritas were good. I left happy and full.

Great food, service, and atmosphere. Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable about the dishes. He warned us about spice levels in each dish, which was very considerate of him, and we were able to handle it all. I also appreciate that they noted on the menu that the rice and beans were vegetarian friendly so I didn't have to ask. Everything tastes great.

Just staying overnight and reddit recommended this so we drove 30 mins out of our way; glad we did! Food was pretty dang good. Kids got quesadillas and rice and beans, which were better than the entree. Had a chicken burrito and a pork - both great. Steak tacos very tasty. Cool atmosphere.

We're here in ATL for a concert & found Bone Garden on google & thought wed try it out. Aaron was incredible! I have a lot of food allergies and he was so helpful helping me find things I could eat. He recommended the fried yuca & it really does have kind of a french fry texture thar is so good. We came for my husband's birthday & had the banana empanadas to celebrate. My husband got the chicken tinga tacos & he has been saying they're the best he's ever had. Usually you can get a good idea how a mexican restaurant will be from just the chips and salsa & even that was perfect!! It is honestly so cool and beautifully decorated - even down to the smallest details. The art is incredible & the restaurant is very unique. We will be back next time we're in town! 🖤🌮☠️👻🩻💐❤️

Spicy Mexican food, tasty. Service a little slow. Nice decorated place.

The place, the food, and the servers are all on point. Wonderful experience. In town and had to kill some time. Little loud. The drinks were delicious too!

Bone Garden cantina has a nice atmosphere with friendly servers. Parking is very easy at this location as well. Prices are definitely reasonable for the food and they have a lot of options. I ordered three tacos and I really enjoyed my meal. I ordered one shrimp taco, chicken taco, and a cauliflower taco. Each one was very different and texture and flavor which I liked and I like how they had vegetarian tacos as well. It’s a cute cantina that you must try here in the west side of Atlanta.

This place is amazing! So good we came twice in a week!! Both times we ordered the Shrimp Enchiladas, Shrimp Verde Tacos, and Citrus Shrimp Empanadas as our entree. Oooh weeee! Delish! Everything tastes so fresh and is seasoned to perfection! We also love the queso and chips! The queso is perfectly seasoned with a hint of heat from the jalapeños! Just the way I like it! The Pomegranate Margarita was delicious. It wasn’t too sweet or too strong! It was just right! Lastly and most importantly is the service! Our server Yo was super friendly and professional! She remembered us from being there earlier in the week although she hadn’t been our server then. This is our new favorite spot! It is pretty quaint, so there is usually a wait, you’ll be close to your neighbors, but it is worth it! If you love Mexican food, top shelf service and drinks then this is the place for you!

Came here with a bit of a large party. Accomodations may take a bit of time depending on availability of tables with larger parties if they have to group tables together. We were seated on the outside on a larger table, so wasn't much of an issue in our case. Our waiter did well overall to get our drink orders in, and get our entrees out. Food did take a bit of time to come given the larger party. The food was overall good from what most of our party said. The price was surprisingly well, and the menu options is pretty cool with some items not found on more common Mexican restaurants. This actually does feel more authentic. Drink recommendation is the tamarindo margarita. Taste great!

We loved this place! Went for dinner on a Friday night, only 5/10 minute wait with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. They let us sit at the bar and get drinks then came and found us when our table was ready. The drinks are wonderfully crafted with lots of good flavors, the queso and salsa were AMAZING. We highly recommend the chicken quesadilla- one of the best we’ve had! Also very reasonably priced.

Update: 5/6/22 - Was here for dinner and tried a few other items such as their moles and tamales. As far as Mexican food goes this is really one of the best spots in the area. They also have a nice selection of tequilas & drinks. Original Review: Kinda a hidden gem. Very good al pastor tacos. Guacamole and chips where fresh and staff very friendly and attentive. The margarita with salt rim was well made as well.

Had a great dinner at Bone Garden Cantina. Authentic, fresh tasting food and extremely reasonable prices. We didn’t wait at all for an outside table on a Friday night either and food came out super fast. Inside decor is really cool but they blast the AC in there! We started with a pitcher of house margaritas which were delish and strong. Our guacamole app was veryyy small portion wise but the fresh tortilla tips were amazing! We sampled lots of menu items including cheese quesadilla with jalapeños, rice and beans, shrimp taco, cauliflower taco, and fried yuca. The shrimp taco was special and the rice and beans was well seasoned but very salty. I didn’t love the cauliflower taco flavor combos personally. Our friends had vegetarian tamales and two enchiladas which they enjoyed and said portions were huge. We were very full and happy leaving and didn’t break the bank despite ordering a little of everything. I only wish there were more vegetarian options. Will be back!

this place is truly amazing. It’s got a great atmosphere and vibe. The food is always great and the staff is the best. I would highly recommend that everyone try this place as will become a favorite of yours as well.

A hidden gem of Atlanta! You have to come here just to check out the atmosphere. The day of the dead decor is amazing. Try the red goat soup, elote, and any of the tacos! Ask about rotating beer selection. Outdoor seating available but you really need to see the inside!

I am from Charlotte and this is my first experience in Atlanta! I'm celebrating my 22nd birthday! I was recommended here from an employee at the Center for Puppetry Arts and I must say this is the absolute best mexican food I have had in my 22 years of life! As well our server Rachel is AMAZING. I have been a server for a few years and I have very high standards for food service and she was absolutely top notch! This place, the food, and our server deserve 6 stars!!!!

Today, I visited Bone Garden Cantina for the first time. I was amazed at all the vivid and beautiful artwork which added a flare of mystique to this gem. Rachel, our lovely waitress, was very polite, bubbly, and an absolute delight. Her superb professionalism made my experience at this restaurant a memorable one. The food is simply to die for. I thoroughly savored every bite. Due to Bone Garden Cantina's delicious food and Rachel's excellent hospitality, I will definitely be coming back and suggest this restaurant to everyone!

Awesome experience. We’re in Atlanta from Jacksonville Florida, and this was on a best eats list! So we had to try it. It was not a disappointment. We had young kids with us (4&3 yrs old) plus a 3 month old. We were seated within a couple minutes even though the place was crazy busy. It was kid friendly, and menus addressed the whole kids thing. The chicken quesadilla was awesome. The queso was great, and so was the guacamole. I had the grilled veggie taco, it was delish. Everything was a bit spicy but so good. Very modern/hipster.

Food was top notch. Came to Atl in vacation to see the Braves. Saw Bone Garden on Travel Channel a couple months ago and had to give it a try based on Alton Brown's recommendation. He was spot on. Wife had pastor tacos and a tamale and I had the Pipian Mole enchiladas. All of it was fantastic. Salsa was great, too. Extensive drink menu. Service was a little slow given that hardly anyone was there because we came in early, but I still give it 5 stars because the food was great and the server was still welcoming and apooogized for the short wait. Highly recommend.

Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING has an amazing flavor. Every bite was the best bite on the plate. I can't speak highly enough about not only the quality of food, but also the atmosphere and the staff. I cannot wait to go back!!!!!!!

I came in yesterday for the day of the dead festival! It was awesome. Really great atmosphere and just really fun overall. The food was really good but to be honest I'm a sucker for quality Mexican food! The chips and salsa especially resonated with me, I've been thinking about it ever since actually. The wait staff was very helpful and friendly especially considering it seemed like a quarter of Atlanta was there with us! The bar was stocked with everything I needed to tie together a great meal with some great liquor. It may have been the day of the dead but I've never felt more alive! Would visit again.

First time visit and I was disappointed. I had been wanting to go here for years after seeing it on a tv show. We went to the Day of the Dead event. We arrived shortly after 5 and enjoyed watching the Mariachi band play. After checking in to get a seat, we were told it would be about an hour wait. We noticed people were getting their tequila jarritos filled and asked about getting one. We were told we had to go to the bar for that. Unfortunately the bar was extremely busy and it took over 20 minutes to get waited on. They were out of the special jarritos and instead offered a disposable plastic shot glass for the same price- $13! As busy as it was, I knew we would not get $13 worth of tequila for it to be worth the cost. We did get a couple drinks that were a bit overpriced. We were seated in between the bar and the hallway to the restrooms- so there was a constant flow of people close to and passing by our table the whole night. The place was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. Sitting outside would have been better, but unfortunately it was raining, so inside it was. Our server was friendly and did a great job considering the large amount of people there. The food was very good. I was disappointed with the way you get a sugar skull. No where in the promotion did I see the requirements to get one. I thought everyone in your party would be able to get one. It wasn’t until getting to the bar and seeing their event menu that I saw you could get ONE SMALL skull AFTER a $60 purchase(before taxes)or ONE LARGE skull after an $80 purchase! I would have been willing to pay for extra skulls, but this was not an option. I ended up getting the LAST small skull before we left. I had to order some items to go to make the $60 and this was another disappointment. I ordered a beans and rice combo and an order of yucca fries. The total for both was $7.75. I thought it would be a decent size- hardly. VERY SMALL portions. There were 6 small fries for $4.75. It was about 8:00 before we left, so 3 hours to get seated and leave. The drive there was over 2 hours, so I was a bit let down by this experience. I wish the restaurant was a bit more clear with pricing and the special conditions for getting sugar skulls. All in all I think the servers did a great job under the circumstances and the food was good, but was it worth driving over 2 hours and the money spent? No...

Drove from North Georgia to try this place. I was so disappointed. Pork taco was dry and hard but I was starving so I are it. Azteca tamale no, just no. Wait staff drinking on the job! Wtf is that?! Where's the management? You hate your customers? But we pay your bills. Whatever I won't be back.

Enjoyed the food, had beef tongue taco and goat taco with beans and rice. Everyone else said they enjoyed their food also. The decor was awesome and our waitress Sara was excellent.

We went for Mother's Day and it was fantastic. Loved the decor the food and our server was friendly and helpful. We will be back can't wait to bring our sons. This was part of my mom's gift and she loved it. We all enjoyed it. Had a burrito that was amazing but qant to come back and have the steak quesadillas. I will recommend this place to everyone. The beers were ice cold and next time plan on a pitcher of margaritas.
