Review 57th Fighter Group Restaurant - Atlanta

Unique restaurant with great variety of food options & a great view of flights landing & take-off. Ambience of this is an add-on. Take your friends out for a party & make your feets dance in the dance floor. I loved the burger & the fries that we ordered. Service was quick. Friendly staff.

Spent the time dancing and outside most of the night. Ordered fries..they were yummy shoestring fries, seasoned well and salty. I'd like to try more food. Will definitely go back to do so. I liked the dancing. Music choices were everywhere, which was kind of good. Dance floor wasn't too crowded.

A unique restaurant that has great food, great views of planes landing and taking off, plus an amazing ambiance that highlights our aviation history. Take your family, enjoy the trip through the bunker on your way to the table, enjoy all the pictures and history adorning the walls, and have a wonderful meal to top it off.

Great food with a fun atmosphere! I took my family for a nice dinner and the kids loved the food and watching all the planes and jets take off and land. Our server Denice was amazing and all the food was delicious. The chef even came to confirm my child’s allergy and ensure us he would make sure we were safe! It was a great evening and we will return especially to check out some of there fun events!

My first visit, it's amazing! Lots of atmosphere and authenticity. Deon was a great server! We ate the brunch buffet, delicious. Lots of meat-eater options, of course. A good number of options for this vegetarian too. I recommend a visit!

We went for a group Naval Academy parents function and it was great. Good food and drink selections and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend and I would go back for sure.

Son loves planes, great spot to see flights taking off. Kitchen...please lay off the salt. Food was good, bordering on awesome. Less salt would make it so. Beer cheddar soup was spot on. Fries were close to being absolutely incredible (too salty) Sandwich ok, but a bit dry.

My experience is very old! I was there in the 1980's! Food was great and my co-workers and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit! Tried to take my wife there on a year's later visit and it was closed down! Am thrilled that the 57th is back in business! Just to give you a hint (I still have a menu!) - Filet (regular cut) was $16.50 and petite was $14.95. Ribeye with mushrooms was $14.95 also. Am so happy to see that the beer cheese soup survived!!! Loved it! Been a lot of years, but I still have fond memories of sitting right by the windows nearest the runways and watching traffic! Maybe someday!!!

The food was awesome I loved the burger and fries. Ice cream was really a great delight with chocolate syrup on top! Also...being able to watch planes was quite entertaining.

Thirty years later, food was ok. We had prime rib I can't tell you why but there was a strange taste to it. We left most of it there. Just could not eat it. A friend had NY strip and it was not seasoned, like at all. The beer cheese soup smelled like feet and was grainy/mealy. It used to be so good. The only meal anyone in our group enjoyed was the Salmon. Service was kinda strange. Restaurant wasn't packed but the dance floor was. Cool Saturday night hangout. Just eat before you get there.

Went here for my birthday last night with my family and loved it! Everyone loved their food and our Waiter was the best! Highly recommend the chicken or salmon. So so good. Seeing the planes land and take off is also a great dinner view.

Brunch was great. The good was delicious. Service was amazing. I am very unsure of why a dog was allowed in the restaurant. It was a small dog, in a purse. The dog was in a chair in the purse and owner of the dog carried the purse to the buffet line every single time she got up to get more food. I doubt seriously it was a service dog. That’s a little too much.

My fiancé and myself happened upon this restaurant the other day and we had the all you can eat brunch. I have never had such an amazing brunch coupled with a unique experience!! The brunch was pricey but the experience is worth it.

My family had Thanksgiving at 57th Fighter Group. We all enjoyed the food very much. My elderly father especially enjoyed himself. Our server was great. Very pleasant and professional. She volunteeted to take few pictures of my daughters with me outside on the patio in the midst of her very busy shift. The food was great and we had a great Thanksgiving. We even caught a couple of planes and a helicopter coming and going! Cool little history lesson for the kids, too. Great place.

What a great experience ... the food was superb, our waitress was wonderful, and I loved watching planes and helicopters take off and land! The music was a bit too loud, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. A wonderful dining experience

I have been to this restaurant two times. I love the theme of the bombed out building s the dining room, old world War Two tanks, bunkers, and aircraft, finally a great bar with craft cocktails, views of the airport and a wonderful menu. They had one up in Akron, Ohio as well that I took my brother to, but sadly they closed.

First went with coworkers for lunch, had the prime rib, limited menu, but written up in the paper as one of the best places to eat in Atlanta. Went back with hubby for a valentine celebration, adjustments to the menu items aren't available. The prime rib could only be served medium rare, which is a problem for me. The ambiance was nice, the lights on the landing strip for the airplanes out of Peachtree Dekalb airport were mesmerizing. The club in the back was interesting, good music, large dance floor, big crowd that weekend. They have events monthly that they advertise by calendar. Very homey decor with a wood burning fireplace air force paraphernalia. Definitely worth a visit.

NEVER AGAIN!. Took 2 hours to get served while waiter focused on larger party seated beside us.. Refilled our drinks only once, after hailing the waiter down an hour into our seating.. Took 1.5 hours to get 1 basket of 5 cold rolls delivered for a table of 6.. Steaks were horrible, marbled, fatty. Served on a plate by themselves, with not even a fig leaf to garnish the appearance.. Caesar salad was served on a 6" square plate with wilted lettuce and stale croutons.. The cockroaches crawling up the wall as we ate did us in.. Two of us spent the night in the bathroom with diarrhea.. The GA Health Dept needs to take a serious look at this place. It clearly relies heavily upon the nostalgic ambiance to feed their foot traffic since the food is well below acceptable. Would have preferred a drive thru to what we encountered.. Called the restaurant before posting this, with the hope of a decent manager to take proper action to address an obvious infestation issue. Instead, we were called back by a manager who kept denying everything. Thus, we have posted to save other families from a terrible evening.ADVICE: Visit the airport if you want to see planes fly, the museum for WWII nostalgia, and find a decent restaurant to enjoy a healthy and timely dinner.

Worst restaurant experience EVER. If i could give ZERO stars i would. this place simply SUCKS! first off, our waiter was terrible...seemed like he was high off something. asked him about things on the menu (i.e. what's good/most popular), since i had never been there before...to which he replied "um idk, it's all good. i said to NOT ask me about what's good on there". like UM WHAT??? what kind of response is that??? not attentive to ANYTHING, had to ask some other person to refill my water glass after it was all gone for 15+ mins. Dirty eating utensils as well. and here is the BEST part...took them TWO hours to bring out our food. 2 HOURS!!! i mean, it's like they had to work at being as horrible as possible. we had a bday party of about 15..not too crazy. many people came after us eat and left and we were STILL sitting there foodless. and when they FINALLY brought out their crappy sub-par food, it was ICE COLD (i got the filet mignon). COLD FOOD. and another steak not even cooked right. this place is HORRIFIC AND TERRIBLE. DO. NOT. WASTE. YOUR HARD-EARNED MONEY AT THIS DUMP!

Best Sunday Brunch in town. I cannot say enough about the 57th Sunday brunch. Being a military service member myself this is one of the coolest places historically you can enjoy a Sunday afternoon brunch. The entire restaurant is modeled after a WWII farmhouse nestled on an old English countryside airfield that you would see in your grandpa's old black and white photos from back in the war. The inside is decorrated with the original photos and memorabilia all donated from actual members of the 57th fighter wing who served in the unit during WWII.

Every Sunday the 57th has brunch from 10-2:30pm. It is an all you can eat spread for one price and includes everything from cooked to order omelets, piles of peel and eat shrimp, prime rib, waffle stand, beer cheese soup, beef medallions, Talapia, chicken and other prepared meat dishes that change week to week, assorted vegetables, full breakfast items, cold cuts, Bread bar, etc... You cannot leave this place without loosening your belt a notch or two. Mimosa's are served starting at 12pm due to Georgia blue laws and if you are feeling up for a flight you can take a ride over Atlanta in an open air cockpit bi-plane that pulls right up to the back of the restaurant which borders the local airport. The 57th takes reservations but I have never had to wait more then 5-10 minutes walking in and asking for a table.

Happy hour, not so happy. Staff seem annoyed and surprised when I asked about Happy Hour. The drinks were watered down and the food (not included in the Happy Hour) was weak. The place wreaked of diesel fuel which is understandable given the airport but no one seemed to care.

Incredible Sunday brunch buffet! Unique atmosphere and great service. Try the bananas foster waffle and key lime pie.

May 2012. I planned my daughter's 16th Birthday Dinner there. It was a mess! I had went into restaurant and talked with them about their menu and was given a alternate menu for the event. On the night of the dinner, some other woman calling herself the district something or other informed me I mis-understood and they could not serve the menu I had been given. Even when other hostess told her they remembered me coming in and setting everything up. In the end this woman decided that they could alter their menu but not to the one I agreed to but the one for kids. Oh my...she was down right rude and determine to have us order from the menu where the dishes were way out of our expense. In the end, we had to leave!!!
I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE.....and if anyone ever ask me....they won't either.

Excellent food. Service is quick and non intrusive. Good value for money. I highly recommend.

Going downhill fast. Updated 7/10/14
Went on a Thursday night - place nearly empty and some areas closed. Got something that used to be really good there - ceviche. It was mostly onion - little seafood and no avocado. The service was lax. Will never return.

Menu has changed and gone up in price and everything is a la cart. That being said, everything is delicious except for the rolls they put on the table. Also it is a more dressy type place too. We figured with the aviation theme it would be not so dressy!

A Sky High Surprise. Tucked away next to PDK airport, this little place was an unexpected crowd pleaser. Admittedly, I was fairly skeptical as we navigated the kudzu lined road that looks like a scene from a war era movie, but at the other end of the road we found this lovely restaurant bustling with satisfied customers. The crawfish cake was absolutely out of this world. Everyone's steaks were expertly prepared; mine came topped with a wonderful port sauce that nearly drove me to lick the plate clean. It was lovely to sit by the back picture window and watch the planes come and go. Great fun, great food. We went for dinner, but I'd imagine the lunch atmosphere would be nice as well. 57th deserves serious Bravo Zulus.

Great Time Cool Atmosphere. We had our company Xmas party at the 57th fighter group
awesome fish shrimp and steak! planes taking off landing right outside window. WWII stuff on the walls and on the property fun and good food!

Avoid the steak. Great atmosphere - great service - great chicken - great beer cheese soup - fair salad - bad N Y Strip steak. When ordering - avoid the steak - at least that was my experience.

So quirky I want to live here!. The decor is awesome, intimate, another world away! I loved the quiet , the scenery, the great service and attention to detail was refreshing. The food was inspired and really awesome. I really enjoyed everything about this place and will be coming back many times.

Food was awesome.... Likes the food, little slow service. Trivia was AWESOME!

Great Restaurant, Great Location. The first thing one will notice upon driving down the twisty, almost forest-like path is "Checkpoint Charley" followed by an airplane and old Military Police vehicle. The walk inside brings one through a bunker and into a restaurant full of WWII paraphernalia. This restaurant is set on an airstrip, and sitting outside (in the winter, by lit fires), one can see planes taking off an landing.

The great atmosphere is completed by food I always enjoy. I solely order off the bar menu, but I have yet to get something I did not enjoy. I highly recommend the beer cheese soup! I also often split the nachos. They are 12 dollars, but it is entirely worth it - a huge plate piled high with cheese, jalapenos, olives, guacamole, sour cream, salsa and your choice of steak or chicken (they don't skimp on any of these).

My friends and I go on Tuesday nights to have fun with the trivia and 2-dollar draft beers (and 3-dollar margaritas). The waiters are always friendly (sometimes a bit slow, but we don't mind as we are there for the whole 2 hour trivia) and the trivia is fun (they even give out raffled prizes between each of the 4 rounds).

Overall, this place is just made by the atmosphere - cool fall nights spend lounging back on a chair with friends next to a warm fire, watching planes land, munching on nachos and sipping a draft beer all while cheering over trivia. Easily my favorite night of the week.

This is a great date place!. We really had a lot of fun here... I had always heard that it was a fun place to go but I still wasn't sure quite what to expect. The ambiance was perfect and we had this great sideways booth where we were able to sit next to each other and look out at the runway. Our waitress Kate was really sweet and really wanted us to be happy with our experience. Probably, in that respect, the best waitress I've had in years. The food could be better, not that it was bad, we did enjoy it, but the execution could be way better. I can tell that they are trying to be seasonal with the menu and currently the duck breast dish is one of the best on the menu. Now, to make a point, if I may... The MAJOR downside of out Friday night, 8pm dinner, was the DJ in the next room.... I get the fact that they are trying to do whatever they can to bring in people but It was such a bad match up to have what felt like a loud wedding party going on while we were trying to have a nice dinner... I see that they have a live band on Sunday from 5-7 pm but why not on friday?? why not really play up that aspect?? I just really didn't enjoy feeling the thump of the base in this atmosphere... I think that if they re-focused a few things it really could become a great destination... All that being said, we had a fun time a do plan to go back.

LOVE the atmosphere, but could the food??? Not so good. They need a better menu and better execution as well. I still recommend it just for scenery!

WOW!!!!. From the moment I pulled up I was impresed. The exterior looks like a bombed out French Chateau. How cool!! The inside has an incredible amount of WWII authentic memorbilia. It is awesome. They have this wall they let all the Veterans sign to pay tribute to them.

The staff was great. The food was awesome. We ate in the dining room. (The formal part of the restaurant). I looked on with awe at all the planes taking off and landing. I'm not much into that stuff but when you are there it just engulfs you. Thanks 57th for giving me a new fave place in ATL!!!

Better next time?. I had dinner here with a friend this past weekend, and hadn't been since I was a kid (about 25 years ago for brunch). The place hasn't changed much that I could tell. Had a great seat at the window where we could see the couple of planes that landed and took off. It was too hot to sit outside. My friend loved her Gin and Tonic, and we both loved the Beer Cheese Soup as our starter. My friend raved about her Short Ribs, and even gave me a bite and they were quite good. I had the special pasta, which had shrimp, salmon and vegetables in a cream sauce. I was a little disappointed. The sauce was thick and gooey, almost like a reheated leftover, and one of my shrimp still had the entire shell left on. I have never had that happen before, so maybe the kitchen was just off that night. We had a cheesecake for dessert that was just ok; one of the three layers was pretty dry. I am curious to come back and try the brunch as an adult. My father went a few weeks ago and said it was great. It's about $25 though. It is a really neat place and worth a visit, especially if you or someone in your family is a war buff, veteran or you like airplanes.

57th Fighter Group; Uniqe, Fun and Enjoyable. We have eaten here several times. We have really enjoyed it. The minute you pull into the parking lot the authentic atmosphere transports you back in time to WWII (we have visited the WWII sights of Normandy and this restaurant is like being there). The food was good, the staff attentive and the view of Peachtree Dekalb Airport was superb. There is a large lounge which was busy and has a large dance floor with great music. There is also outdoor seating overlooking the airfield. The 57th is an in-town getaway to a memorable evening.

I fly out of KPDK airport and always love to go have one of their great burgers afterwards! Friendly with a great decor! Drake Adas

Not that good. I had dinner there a few weeks ago and the food was ok, but not great. We did have to send the steak back. The restaurant still looked kinda dirty, which is what a bombed out WWII fighter base should be like, so at least it was authentic.
LC
Glad they are back!. The 57th is a unique experience. We took my step dad here for his birthday. It was a blast watching the planes take off and land, and checking out all of the WWII memorabilia. I had Winston's chicken and beer cheese soup. Awesome. I heard the crabcakes were also excellent.

Excellent brunch buffet in an interesting setting. Great service!

Best Brunch around. So glad they reopened. Sunday Brunch is as good as ever. Nice place to eat and watch the planes. Never boring.

Off the beaten path. As many of you know Atlanta has many many restaurants, some would say to many! The 57th Fighter restaurant is a nice change. With a senior wait staff that is there to manage your visit.
I hate when you enter a new establishment and your meant to feel guilty, since now you're the newest interruption to their evening.
At 57 we felt welcome - oh and did I mention the food was great!

Rarely does the memory of a good meal and a fun eatery ever match the return visit especally when it has be a decade or two. But I think they pulled this one off in good form. I was in the neighborhood and stopped by for lunch. Had the 57th Sandwich and man was it good. Very prompt service, friendly wait staff. I will be in Atlanta for the next 4 month so I think I may try the rest of the menu....on different days of course.Pilots, this bring the $100 Hamburger to a new level.

I used to go here every Sunday when I was younger for their brunch and was upset when they closed. I found out that they reopened and I had to go try it again. I loved it just as much as when I was younger. The restaurant is still on the runway, which is the neatest part. I had a cup of their famous beer cheese soup and loved it. I also trie their sliders from the bar menu and it was delicious as well. I will go here again and again!

Just reopened about 3 weeks ago. Had a quick lunch salad that was OK. Service was fine.

The 57th Restaurant is on the grounds of Peachtree DeKalb Airport (PDK) in Chamblee. It used to be part of a chain of WW I/WW II themed restaurants at airports, but the original location closed a few years ago. It was reopened by the owner of Epps Aviation last fall; the building is in very nice shape. The restaurant is very close to the taxiway with a great view of the airplanes. If you go there, some of the tables have headphones that allow you to listen to the communication between the planes and the tower. This is the grilled romaine salad. Yes, the lettuce is actually grilled. I didn't try it, but my friends said that it worked very well. Lettuce should be hard to burn so the grilling should be a very nuanced taste. I tried one of their signature dishes, the beer cheese soup. It was thick and hearty, simple but an interesting combination of flavors. I was in a steak mood, so steak it was. The steak was very flavorful. I also ordered the mushrooms, which I always find to be a good
