The Sultan

As I write this, the Sultan enjoys a 100% health rating. They are perfect for a Friday dinner meal, as they are never overcrowded. The owner is attentive to customers and he really cares about your experience. The food is always freshly prepared from the finest ingredients.I can truly say with total confidence that my family has never had anything less than a delicious, authentic, home-style meal from the Sultan.

I came here on the quietest of afternoons. I was the only person in the place. I had a special order as I wanted chicken shawarma over humus, and it was not a problem at all! I also had the grape leaves. Everything was DELICIOUS!!!! Food... awesome. Service... awesome. I will definitely be back, and next time not by myself!

The service was great and my server wanted to accommodate me but the owner told my excellent server, right in front of me, that he would not permit him to make my falafel without tzaziki sauce. I had to order several sides and make my own falafel out of them. For $35 I received three falafel balls about the size of grapes and three very, very tiny pieces of bread and a small side of taboulleh. He seemed shocked when I asked for a receipt. (He didn't take my order so why didn't my server charge me?) I wanted to see the charges but it was not an itemized receipt. The food was very good and the service was very good, but when the owner acts like that it's no wonder I was the only one at the restaurant. I bet this place could flourish if he just left for a while. I would go back if it were not for the owner being unaccommodating and ungrateful. Being polite and accommodating should be common sense in the restaurant business LOL. I do feel terrible for the people that work there! Every other Mediterranean eatery in Athens so far has been great, however.

I love this place! I tried the baba ganoush (sp?) and pita chips from the farmer's market and had to see where it came from. The flavors are amazing. The owner may appear gruff but he's truly kind, just not over the top. He answered all my questions about the food and beverages, and I even tried jalab on a whim- it was outstanding! For some reason, i'm usually the the only person here which makes for a great setting to read a book and have a nice meal. Highly recommended!

I went there for lunch today and ABSOLUTELY loved it. The service was pretty fast (we got our hot and fresh appetizer in around 5 or 7 minutes) and the food was very very tasty. I'm not from Middle East so I can't say about its authenticity, but I will definitely go back. I literally WOOOOOOOOWed at the chicken sawarma. Me and my boyfriend ordered a plate for two (can't remember the name) and got so full afterwards. I'm a big eater and always complain about the portion of the food but this time at The Sultan it wasn't the case at all. Highly recommended! Good service and high quality food. the owner looked like a nice guy. He was like "no bullshit just delicious food" type lol
