China Star Super Buffet

My family and I have been coming here for many many years, since I was a little kid. We came tonight with the same expectations as always: good food, decent prices, and full stomachs. This time was not the case, in fact we’ve decided we won’t come back. The food wasn’t anything to write home about, it was bland, greasy, and over cooked. Service was bad as well. And on top of that we have always loved their pineapple shrimp and is one of the reasons we go there. They refilled every item on the buffet line EXCEPT that one. Then the kitchen started closing down and cleaning almost an hour and a half before their closing time of 9:30. And when we asked about it we were told we could order it to go. We didn’t want to do that to pay for it on top of our bill, which was a shock when we saw it was almost $80 for four people. As a business owner myself, I understand supply prices have gone up, but $80, before tip, is a little ludicrous. Then the kicker was, my mother who has had a bariatric surgery, and can’t drink with her meals, asked for a to-go cup for her full glass of tea, was told “$1 for to-go cup”…..we already paid $1.99 for the drink and had already paid our bill. So they double charge for a drink that MAY NOT get refilled in the first place. In short, in the 20+ years we’ve been going there this was the worst experience we’ve ever had and we won’t be back sadly.

My husband and I have LOVED eating here since we moved to Athens. However, we decided to eat there tonight and the service was awful. We paid for a full buffet and the majority of the food and seafood we come for was not even out. (We went at 7:00pm) We got water to drink. The bill was 32 dollars. It used to only be like 20 if that for the both of us. However, the service was not that great at all. The waitress walked passed us multiple times and took our dirty plates towards the end. We asked for the check and she watched my husband was writing the amount on the total line. She saw she was getting no tip. Yes, we usually always give good tips but the service was bad and the food was gross. My husband was really upset so he didn’t want to leave a tip. As I was signing the ticket she stands over me. I handed it to her and she was quick to hand it back and say I needed to write her a tip. I was in shock… it was very rude and unprofessional. I felt pressured. I caved and gave her a tip even though I shouldn’t have. We won’t be coming back.

Was recommended by a friend...I was not disappointed. They have like 5 or 6 rows of buffet. Sushi bar, hibachi, and dessert, too...food was really good...They had boiled shrimp, steamed mussels and boiled crawdads..wish they had had the raw oysters...no crab legs either...I went on a Thursday night...

We used to really enjoy this place. The taste of the food isn't the same. We live almost an hour away, I got sick and starting throwing up before we made it home, husband ended up sick as well. Our waitress was so rude. My husband went to pay at the register since she never came back to refill our drinks or give us our check, she acted like we were trying to leave without paying until I called her out on it and then she got real friendly when my husband opened his wallet and she saw his cash. And then she tried to keep the change from the $100 we paid with until my husband said something knowing we had already left her a tip on the table, even though she didn't deserve it. We have never not left a tip anywhere. It's a shame,this place used to be a good family spot
