The Expat

Excellent service, lovely atmosphere and the food... OMG. Easily the best duck I've ever had in my life! Antipasta sampler worth the price. Do not miss the chicken livers with pickled strawberries - seriously. If they have the butterscotch pudding when you go, trust me, just order it. I hate butterscotch pudding... This is a whole other kind of pudding not to be ignored.

Wow, this place was terrific! My wife and I had a great dining experience and will be going back. We got the charcuterie board to start, and it was fabulous a little bit of everything. The small board was plenty of food for two people. We then had a great salad and the hanger steak, this steak was cooked perfectly! We then had to try dessert. We got the chocolate pots de crème, the addition of a raspberry sauce was perfect! We also got two cocktails that where fantastic, I think they might have one of the best old fashions in town. Last night was our first time dining at The Expat, and I must retort other reviews I have seen on google. The amount of food received was more than enough for two people. The price of all menu items cost relatively the same as other restaurants of this caliber. My server was extremely knowledgeable and very attentive, even after we paid the check she kept bringing water to our table as we set outside finishing our cocktails. I will be back in the future to enjoy more food and drink. I hope that this place is here to stay so we can add it to our rotation of delightful dining in the Athens area.

Food was great. Management? Not so great. When we politely asked to move to a slightly larger table to accommodate our three person party, we were told that the one next to us was reserved for a bigger group. Soon after, a couple occupied the larger table. Ouch. The tight logistics between tables on the porch, which we were trying to alleviate by moving tables, turned the servers into very agile contortionists. Also, after a truly delicious set of appetizers, my request for new silverware was met with surprise. If I’m going to drop 25 bucks on six ounces of fresh pasta, yes, I’d like clean utensils. I know. Very demanding.

I have no complaints on the food. I’ve been to Expat several times and this was certainly the best the food has been. The temperature on the other hand was a problem. It was very cold outside and the windows were open with a tiny heater pointed towards the table. I have never been so cold for a meal. When I made reservations there was no mention of windows being open with inadequate heat. We had to stay in our large coats the entire meal and our food was cold within two to three minutes. There are two filters in the room and it’s a bit confusing of why the windows must be open with two filters. I certainly would not go back during cold weather. It’s an expensive meal that gets cold incredibly fast.
