The most amazingly delicious and fresh fish that I've tasted in a long while, in a very welcoming atmosphere and provided by a super nice owner. We were delighted with the smoked oysters, salmon, pickled rockfish and poke. We cannot wait to return and highly recommend to anyone who wants some high quality seafood!! Yet another reason we are delighted to call Astoria home.
The smoked black Cod is wonderful! And the salmon dip is super tasty!
This place has some good things, odd things... Not a fan of the pay and tip beforehand then sit and then they wait on you. It's just weird. The young hostess was clearly fried. Either exhausted or high. Probably burnt from lack of staff, which we won't hold against them. There was an older lady and man helping with running food and checking on tables, very nice. My husband just said the Oysters were okay. Not mind blowing like he was expecting from reviews. Hated that they are served in the cocktail sauce not on the shell. His salmon fish and chips were good. We both liked them. Would order again. The Fries... Meh, no awards. Our kids chicken strips were shockingly delicious! For a kids chicken strips. So good! I had the crab on fry bread. High and low points. Not enough crab to even call it a crab dish, that was disappointing. The greens and ceviche combo was okay. Skip the goat cheese one. The fry bread though. They nailed it. It was made perfect. The atmosphere of the place was very good. Cute decor. Bathroom needed help. Overall, a 4 star, would go again.
Sat inside, fun casual atmosphere and really fresh seafood. Loved the clam chowder, shrimp cocktails, seafood and chips and rock fish tacos. My favorite was the fish tacos..It was really good. Will have to make another trip to Astoria to eat here.
Tuna poke was phenomenal. Fish was super high quality and fresh. Menu is a little limited, but what they make, they do well. Not a huge space, so wait times might be long if you come during busy times.
The food is good; but be prepared to wait, easily an hour. They run out of things frequently. Also limited for gluten free/ celiac safe. Most gluten free items are appetizers. The chowder is gluten-free and is delicious. They cook the tortillas on the same flat top as the bread. They salad station is also where they prepare the tacos and fried platters.
They have a very weird and inconvenient system for ordering and seating. You can wait 30minutes in line to order and pay, and then additional time for food. They do not seat anyone upstairs even when they are very busy.
The staff are friendly, except for the person who answers the phone. All staff were masked but no one used gloves in the kitchen.
They have an interesting setup where they take your order at the counter before seating you so if you see a long line, that's probably it and it goes quickly and the service is so fast!
I got some fish tacos and not only were they hearty and extremely filling but they were delicious.
I had their delicious clam chodwer to start. Next time I'll get a bowl. Then the Calamari dinner, which came with steak fries and a yummy, healthier slaw. The calamari was coated perfectly in a light coating and serve with a nicely done aoili.
My only draw back was it was dinner time on a weekend and one more staff member could of helped . I understand the times we are living in, and South Bay Wild Fish House will definitely get more business from me.
Everything tasted so GOOD! Service is great though not enough staff.
Special of the day was Steamer Clams and they were so fresh and yummy.
I really like this place. Totally unpretentious and family owned. A basic menu with straightforward choices and a variety that most eaters can find something that fits their needs. The decor is also really cool and reflects the Oregon coast including a door from the New Carissa.
