Good family-owned Greek place since 1969. Food is outstanding and good portions too! Staff is very friendly. The best seating is in the back where there are cave sculptures and hand-painted wall murals plus an outdoor seating area in good weather. Authentic Greek music as well. This has been a hidden gem in Astoria for years, absolutely worth a trip, but parking is difficult out front.

Beautiful real Greek food at a great price. Every time I go I have a GYRO and Baklava. They fill up the GYRO with meat and if you want extra yogurt sauce there's no additional price. The Baklava was a nice portion which two can eat off. Price 13.75
Lived in Astoria for 8 years and with my soon-to-be wife for 2, this was our go-to spot for amazing Greek salads, pita, gyros, souvlaki at anytime. LOVED IT! Think about it always. Planning a trip back with our three kids just so they can experience. Go go go. Now! we will never forget.

I live in Virginia but I have to come to New York about twice a year or more if there is any emergency with my parents. I always make a point of going to this establishment because of their superb food, great service and very reasonable prices. I highly recommend this restaurant. I had the pleasure many times of talking to the owner who is a very kind and modest man. You will find him working up front in the kitchen just like any employee. Of course there the oldest gentleman who is a cook and he has the greatest attitude and with a sense of humor. His talents come from being born in Kefalonia, Greece.
From the charcoal grilled octopus to the fresh Spanakopita this place oozes authentic Greek tradition in every bite. Every time I come to NYC it's one of 5 restaurants I MUST visit.
... It is with a heavy heart that I have to report that Opa Souvlaki has closed its doors for good. It recently changed owners hands and honestly after coming by 4 times I wasn't impressed but I am still absolutely gutted by hearing its closing. This place has been an institution for over 35 years and I simply have no words to describe the sense of loss. Whenever I travel around the world and I come back to New York it's one of the few places that I absolutely always would visit. Along With Uncle George's, this place will live on in our collective memory as a cornerstone of Greek food and great eateries.
Funky location and decor but great food and friendly service. Great for take out or for a sit down in the airy and bright back dining room with fanciful plasterwork.... We feel transported to a little Greek village Taverna with uncompromisingly well-prepared food....a reliable place!
My go to greek restaurant in Astoria. Ridiculously affordable the gyro, souvlaki, lemon potatoes are always spot on. I do a lot of take out but enjoy the garden seating when the weather is right and I have the time.
opa has the best gyro's in town for a sit down or take out. they have authentic greek dishes with a decor that needs to be updated. the service is pretty good when they are not busy.
This place is awesome, fast, cheap, and delicious. I used to frequent the place when I lived in the neighborhood, and still go back when I can. The lamb souvlaki with lemon potatoes is the best.
My family and I have been going here for many years. It is by far my favorite Greek restaurant in Astoria. I was sad when they closed but they are back and just as good as ever!
Welcome back to Opa Opa's!!
