The Monarch

We came to celebrate a birthday here on 2/13/2022, and the drinks were okay. The steak was burnt on the outside .. the chicken was raw it still had blood on it.. we weren't going to say anything but when you spend $39 for half of a chicken it should be cooked perfectly and taste out of this world.. but it was not. So the server took the chicken back and didn't apologize for it.. the manager didn't come apologize either which is unprofessional. Any other fine dining restaurant that i been to would have. They did take it off of the bill but I don't think that made up for it. We left very unhappy. Would not recommend eating here.

My wife and I occasionally visit Aspen from the Vail Valley for memorable meals. This was a late celebration of our anniversary. I found The Monarch to be a wonderfully intimate, high end steakhouse, with outstanding service. the staff were all friendly and attentive. I ordered the cowboy ribeye, which was cooked to perfection. My only reason for four stars- I had the Stilton bleu cheese topper on my steak, which really overpowered the steak. Once I removed part of the large handful of cheese, the steak and cheese married beautifully. Pricey, but worth it!

Nice restaurant with a beautiful ambience and very attentive and friendly staff. It is a beautiful place to try for special occasions while you are in Aspen. I am dropping two stars though because the food was just okay. The sides were well seasoned and our ribeye came out medium/rare like we asked but the Kansas Strip was more medium and a very chewy and tough piece of meat. I expected a little better because this is a fairly pricey steakhouse. Also given how the place was operating at 30-40% capacity, I was not happy with how close they placed few of us at the high table.

Good food, poor service. My friend and I were mid-order when our waiter turned to speak with someone who had just entered the restaurant, ignoring us. Not sure if it was a fellow employee, the owner, or frequent customer; but our waiter left our table, mid-order, to chat with the new guest for several minutes. Incredibly rude and disappointing.

We had a private party hosted with about 20 people. Spencer was our main waiter and had the help of 2 bussers/people to fill out water. Our wine glass was NEVER EMPTY. He came around and checked in on each of our needs with alcohol food and just made us laugh. SPENCER IS AWESOME!! Thank you for the experience.
