Walking down the street in Asheville and stumbled upon this awesome place! The bartender gave us a great drink suggestion and the food was phenomenal! We got the avocado salad and the curry chicken rotis with yams and okra! Amazing! My favorite meal in Asheville! Highly recommend!
Wonderfully authentic Caribbean food! The Saltfish Suzanne was delightful, and the dumplings that I stole from my husband's plate were perfect - not light and puffy , not heavy and chewy, just that absolutely perfect give with every bite. I loved the Dasheen Chips/appetizer - crunchy and delicious. The wait staff were friendly, and the owner Esther felt like an old friend from the start. If you like a bit of spice, ask for some home made pepper sauce. Don't be fooled by the mild creamy appearance - it throws some serious heat!
Thank you Calypso, for bringing a taste of home to the mountains of Western North Carolina!
If you haven't been to Calypso you are missing out on one of the great culinary experiences in Asheville. We are both foodies from New York and we've tried many places in Nashville and this is among the very top. The cocktails and service were excellent.we asked for recommendations and went with the oxtail Esther the curried goat and the conch escabeche. All excellent. We will certainly come back next time in town.
Great place for some different food and rum drinks. Enjoyed he ginger tea as well. The stew had a kick and good flavor. Will need to return to try some of the rum neet.
Absolutely amazing! Pies are flaky with well-balanced fillings. The roti is the star of the show, though! The roti bread is exactly as I remember it from my travels in the region and the chicken curry is on point! Everything is very flavorful without being over-salted and he portions are perfect.
There is a pepper sauce that you can get with the roti. Be warned. This isn’t some jalapeño or cayenne sauce. This is Scotch Bonnet (or something similar). It’s wonderfully floral and hot as fire! Delicious!!
Was amazing don't listen to any of the negative reviews if you love Caribbean food . Eat here if your tastebuds are boring. Stay away. We come here everytime we go to Asheville favorite place hands down.!!!!!
My one and only favorite Caribbean restaurant in North Carolina! I always get the goat roti, local greens, and spicy macaroni pie. YUMMMM😍
Stopped for an early light lunch while visiting Asheville.
Classy food, service, and attention from the classy owner.
Too bad we don't live nearby :(
I mostly came here for drinks, but decided to try out the rum cake. I’d say it was pretty good!
Fantastic food, friendly owner and servers. I highly recommend a visit!
