Add a 5 Star for the Music!
Great location to sit back and listen to old-school country and bluegrass music. This is a must stop when there is a musician to experience the "Appalachian Hillbilly Music". We sat for the early performance from 4pm to 6pm but another begins at 9pm.
Both my wife and I had shared the homemade Pretzel Knots that were great. The only problem was it only had 3 which meant 1.5 each. I could have ate at least 5 myself they were that good. They came topped with a melted garlic butter on the top and a side of cheese sauce. Both were very good, and in fact, my wife kept the leftover cheese sauce for her Patty Melt.
We both had a Patry Melt on Rye that was perfect. The Rye was grilled to a slightly crispy perfection. The burger was very good...it was a great change for the typical burger. My wife said it was better than our hometown favorite diner. Trust me...that was the best compliment ever! However, the fries left a lot to be desired. They were real steak potatoes fries but simply were not very good and too large of a large portion. You can choose fries or chips with the Patty Melt...I recommend the chips. They have to be better.
For drinks, my wife had the day's special which was a Moscow Mule and she said it was good but not the best she has ever had.
I had a house special mixed drink that was excellent! However, I can't remember the name. It was made with Whiskey, Bitters, Cinnamon and an orange slice. It was very similar to an Old Fashion. I highly recommend if you like Cinnamon.
We were in Asheville for the evening and picked this place to go get some dinner. To our surprise there was actually live music playing that night. The band itself was great! The service was amazing! Very friendly and fun. The food was also fantastic. Overall just a really fun environment and a great spot to have some dinner and a drink and have a fun night!
A Five-Star Evening at Jack of the Woods
I had the delightful opportunity to dine at Jack of the Woods in Asheville, NC, and the experience was genuinely noteworthy. Not only did it surpass my culinary expectations, but the ambiance and live music added a captivating charm that created a fantastic evening.
Each dish that we tried was a masterclass in flavor and presentation, but my personal favorite was the Ruben sandwich. The ingredients were impeccably fresh, creating a symphony of tastes that was nothing short of sublime. The succulent meat, the tangy sauerkraut, and creamy Swiss cheese, perfectly encased in well-toasted bread, combined to create, without a doubt, one of the best Ruben sandwiches I've ever tasted.
The drinks were similarly impressive, with the bartenders showcasing their skills with well-balanced, temperature perfect mixes. The quality of ingredients was clear from the first sip, further enhancing the dining experience.
Yet, it wasn't just the fantastic food and drink that left an impression. Jack of the Woods also boasts an inviting, cozy atmosphere, further enriched by live music that set a truly lively and engaging tone for the evening. The performance added a unique touch, creating a vibe that was as enticing as the food itself.
In conclusion, whether you're a resident of Asheville or a visitor, I couldn't recommend Jack of the Woods enough. From their top-notch service to the delicious dishes and drinks, and the wonderful addition of live music, they tick all the boxes for a must-visit dining spot.
I recommend the Bluegrass brunch 100%. The food is delicious and the rumchata coffee drink is perfection. The Bluegrass band made me want to move here. The servers are also wonderful! Thank you!
Flavorful, diverse menu for all tastes - even vegan/vegetarian options (tempeh Reuban, for example)! Service was efficient and with a smile. They accommodated our large group without missing a beat. And the music? Oh my word! The talent! We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and highly recommend Sunday brunch which is pretty much the whole day.
The fish and chips were good, though a little over cooked, and a little bit expensive for just two pieces. The live music was a lot of fun and the atmosphere casual. Loved the server.
Second Fish Fry Friday (actually was Saturday). Fish was good, nice crisp batter with a good amount of tasty fries. Not too much food, good portion for one person. Guinness was poured properly but served before settled and was running down the sides. Second round was better.
There was live music which set a nice ambiance. Staff was not easy to engage despite sitting at the bar and it was not overly busy. It is always more enjoyable when the bar staff likes to chat with the clientele vs each other. There seemed to be a lot of locals who were there for the music which was fun. Worth a stop in.

New favorite. It has been a long time since we went to a pub and the food was really good. The service was great and the food was better. It is absolutely pub fare but just a higher quality than what you typically get. Seasoning and flavor. Not that frozen food feel.
We loved the Philly cheese steak fries and the wings were good too. The bbq sauce is wonderfully and subtly different.
10/10 recommend stopping by and checking out this spot. From the time we walked in and were greeted until the time we left was perfect. We started off with beverages and the pretzel bites. My husband is still talking about the cheese that comes with the bites. I had the Chicken Philly w/ fries and my husband went with the Philly Cheese Fries. We both loved the Chicken Philly’s especially the bread and the melted cheese. The Philly Fries were really good and topped with a spicy aioli that paired perfectly with the Green Man IPA. The atmosphere was very laid back and both bartenders were awesome. Definitely check them out!
Would be 5 stars, but lousy and expensive parking took a star. The Place should be in a strip mall or stand alone location. Despite that, it a keeper. Great entertainment by a four woman string band. Limited menu, but a wonderful tasting Philly sub. Quick, professional friendly service.
Went to Jack of the Wood for a date night last Saturday. First time visiting. Missed the all female band but settled in for what became a great evening. Service was beyond exceptional. Our server expertly took care of us old boomers. Good beer, good food and to die for desserts. Best date night ever.
This place is such a gem! The tequila mockingbird cocktail was out of this world, my burger was delicious. I also tried a bite of the veggie burger which was super tasty. The real treat for the evening was the wonderful live entertainment. The acoustics in this place were phenomenal, and the music was the perfect volume.
Y’all, this place is just wonderful. Great food and service, and the music was exactly what you want from old time Asheville. All smiles!
Amazing pub cuisine!!! Absolutely delicious shrimp and grits with Southern greens and my friend loved his Irish style fish and chips!!! The accompaniment of live Celtic music was so charmingly Enchanted! We enjoyed every moment. Thank you, Jack of the Wood! Happiness rocks! 💚✌🍀😊
Enjoyed the bluegrass music. Had a few drinks and they were okay but nothing special. Shrimp and grits were spicy which was delightful and paired with collard greens which was an unexpected pleasure! Waitress was very friendly and responsive to our needs.
We went for the blue grass jams on Thursday. The service was very good and friendly. The garlic fries and dessert were quite tasty.
First the service. It began to rain so a lot of people came in all at once. The two ladies working did an excellent job. Now the food. All of us enjoyed our food. Mine was excellent. The fall special of sausage, potatoes, and veggies was so good. I ate it all but I should not have. I was so full. I would recommend to everyone to check this place out.
