El Jalapeno

We were seated immediately. The waitress that seated us failed to tell the young ladies waiting tables that she seated us. The waitress was running around crazy trying to keep up. After waiting 40 min and still hadn't even taken our drink order we stopped her. She apologized and took our drink order and our food order. We didn't wait anytime before our meal was served. And it was served warm. Not hot! But warm. Usually fajitas come out sizzling. No not this time. It was as if it an been put in a microwave. We ate. Didn't complain. We got our check and left. Did give the waitress her tip. One thing I know for sure is they don't pay her enough. Not for what she was doing by herself. And not sure I will ever go back. There will be new Mexican restaurant opening up in town soon. Pretty sure they will get my business before El Jalapeno does. Went back to El Jalapeno for dinner with dad for Father's Day. Food and service much better. Picture shows what's left of my tamale dinner. It was really good.

I'm giving only 3 stars because of the service. The food is great, I love eating here, however, the service is really lacking lately. It is also pointless to have Togo service if you NEVER HAVE YOUR PHONE TURNED ON. It is seriously frustrating to try to call in an order to pick up after work but no one answers so if you want it, you have to go in, sit, and wait. And yes an employee flat out told me that someone turns the phone off. With a new competitor restaurant coming to town, you should be trying to do better.

Typical bland Midwest Mexican restaurant but worse. Server was absent and barely noticed. Server was so soft spoken, as if wanting to be unnoticed.... if so he did that well. I watched fajitas burn in front of me. Margarita and beer were the only thing I enjoyed other then the fact the server is as good at math as he is speaking , instead of giving back exact change he rounded up to the dollar and shorted his restaurant, maybe they took it out of his 2 dollar tip. Oh asked for a booth and got a table right next to the kitchen, the drowning out of the traditional Mexican music with the hip hop beats was annoying also.

A good Mexican restaurant with nice decor. Unfortunately they seated us at a table with a black light. Made the food look weird. I had the el pastor tacos. They were good but could hardly taste the pineapple. The Mexican rice was dry, not so good. The chips were not fresh. Our kids enjoyed the free slushies. The staff was very friendly.

I visit this restaurant frequently, and I recommend it for all the people who like the Mexican food. The place is big and has three areas, and a bar. One of the areas is outside and it is great during summertime. The food is good and priceless, you can enjoy many plates for under $10. The staff is usually kind and fast. I don't have complaints about this restaurant, so if you are in Southern Illinois, near to Anna, you can enjoy a good Mexican food here.
