Well, Facebook, you ask my opinion on Taisho Bistro? You shall receive! Taisho is not only my favorite Japanese restaurant in WNY, it's my favorite restaurant in town, period. The service is phenomenal, the atmosphere is laid back, and the menu offers so many options you could come here 100 times and never order the same thing. Try the Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki, Katsudon and Omu Rice, you won't find a Japanese place in town that can match what they do here.
Being an Izakaya (bar & grill), you'd expect a good bar, and Taisho doesn't disappoint there either. Offering a wide variety of beer, sake, cocktails, spirits and more, there's a drink for everyone here.
Beyond the food and the booze, it's the service keeps me coming back here. The friendly staff will make you feel welcome and never rushed. See you tomorrow, Taisho!
Been there twice now, and will definitely be back. Excellent food! Polite and very friendly courteous staff who always make you feel welcome. Very wide selection of food; eat a little or a ton! Food quality does not disappoint - not over-seasoned or too sweet (for desserts). Absolutely on point - you get more than what you pay for. Warm, comfortable atmosphere as well. Highly recommended if this is your first time eating Japanese food or not.
My wife and I came here with a group on a Saturday evening, and we were surprised it wasn't busier. The bar was empty and there was only 1 other table. I had a chicken curry dish ($11) that I thought was good. My wife had a chicken noodle dish ($9) that she also enjoyed. We had some pork dumplings and bacon-wrapped scallops as appetizers. Others in our group had sushi that they said was great. The atmosphere was kind of dark with some neon lights at the bar. I was told that the bathroom was really dark and hard to see inside. The only complaints I would have: The waitress said there is a 5 check max per group, and we were asking for 6. We were a little disappointed there wasn't an exception made for just one additional check. The only other thing was serving the food. It was served almost one-by-one... The first person to get their food was half done their dinner before mine arrived, a full 10 minutes later. We had a group of 8, so I understand some delays, but... The restaurant wasn't super busy, either. All in all, we would probably return here.
After a trip to Japan, it is difficult to find a restaurant in the area that comes close to the food there. My husband and I have tried nearly everything on the menu by now, and it is hands down the best Japanese food in the area!
If you're looking for Americanized japanese food, this place is a good choice. The takoyaki was actually very good and Their sushi was above average. The restaurant is clean and their service was very good. However, I should have known better than to to try their ramen... Probably among the worst I have had... If you have never had real ramen before, you'll probably like their ramen... After all it didn't taste badly... It just didn't have that rich body of flavor great ramen has. Therefore, I certainly wouldn't give this a bad rating... They're good at what they do.... Which is serving Japanese food for the American palate... Which is not a critism... But an FYI.
I went here for the first time out of the blue on my short lunch break and man was I impressed. The service and efficiency of the staff was amazing. Everyone was so nice and helpful and welcoming. I will go there again ANY time!!!
Wonderful food!. If you haven't eaten at Taisho Bistro, shame on you.
My wife and I just returned from our fifth visit to this restaurant. Everytime we've gone we had a wonderful experience. The staff is extremely kind and helpful. The food is always amazing and very reasonable with many menu items. We are big sushi eaters and the seafood is always fresh. Can't wait to return soon. You need to go to this spot is you are a foodie.
The best lunch ive had in a while. Fresh made to order sushi. Impeccable service. Highly recommend the angel roll.
Super tasty pork ramen, sushi was fresh and the decor was great. Very nice style.
I will return.
Authentic, varied Japanese food. Taisho Bistro does have an extensive sushi menu, but what really stands out is the variety of other foods they serve, including plenty of noodle and donburi (rice bowl-esque) options as well as tapas-like izakaya fare. These are down-to-earth foods that shouldn't be hard to make properly, but have been almost entirely missing from the Buffalo area. Thankfully, Taisho Bistro offers these foods and prepares them faithfully (and inexpensively to boot).
I tried the agedashi tofu ("age tofu"), omurice ("omelette rice"), and katsudon, and all were fantastic. Taisho Bistro is the real deal, and all of the food I tried was prepared excellently—as good as I've had in the NYC area at places like the Mitsuwa food court and Sunrise Mart and at Fune in Toronto.
For those who aren't very familiar with Japanese food, Taisho Bistro is a great place for exploring. The menu is full of pictures, so you can easily see what different items are. (I did notice some strangely-written Japanese text on the menu, but you don't have to be an expert on written Japanese to know how to make Japanese food properly.) And between the sushi, izakaya food, noodles, and donburi available, there's a lot of exploration to be done.
I'd have been thrilled to have either a donburi & noodle place OR an izakaya-style place open up in the Buffalo area. Taisho Bistro is both of those things, and they have sushi too for people who are into that. This is easily the best and most "real" Japanese food in the area, I'm very happy that it's here, and as long as the quality stays consistent, I will be going back quite often.
(The only thing that could make this place better would be if they had gyuudon and katsu curry.)
I’ll admit that when I saw the sign “ Taisho Bistro ” in a strip plaza in Amherst, I had already written off the restaurant as boring. I hadn’t looked at a menu, but I’ve seen enough boring Japanese/Hibachi restaurants around Western New York, and I assumed Taisho would be the same. I was luckily very wrong. Not only is the menu completely different, serving everything from ramen to yakitori (BBQ) to sushi, but the actual location is pretty unique. You’ll not only find a bright/flashy bar but also a full izakaya style dining room and lots of J-pop . When we walked into the restaurant on a Friday night, we luckily didn’t have the wait for a table. After briefly considering the izakaya dining room and how nice it might be to sit on the floor without shoes, we decided to sit at a regular ole’ table. The location is very nice; the owners of Taisho have really put some money into the place.
One of my favorite sushi restaurants in town, so many delicious options. I go there at least twice a month and I always have a good time. Service is fast and the food was always good. The raw fish served on their sushi is always fresh and the rice is nicely cooked. My go-to options are the salmon torch appetizer, the pork bun, sushi dinner (picture) and any of their special rolls.
I still haven’t tried their hot dishes but at least in pictures and from what I’ve seen in other tables, they look delicious.
Pork belly steammed bun was great. Skilled shrimps were excellent. Sushi is good but tonight wasn't that good because the rice was a bit hard. The place was so busy and packed when we got there. I love their variety of food, haven't explored all of them thou. If you love 🍣 and ramen and grilled stuff, this place is a good one!
Nice place. Service was excellent. Food was pretty good I guess. Not totally impressed. The people I was with loved their food and mine. Me on the other hand eh not so much.
The sushi is super fresh and delicious! Probably the best sushi in the area, everything we have had here has been phenomenal. The service is very professional and quick with a cool modern atmosphere.
Awesome sushi and very reasonable prices. The spicy tofu soup is also spectacular. We got 2 rolls each, kimchi (soooo good), miso soup and spicy tofu soup for a total of $40. Highly recommend.

Everything about this place screams excellence. Drom ambiance, to food, and customer service. I can't recommend this place enough ❤️❤️❤️
Your standard Japanese cuisine. The miso soup was very unique compared to all the other places around Buffalo though.
Delicious sushi and exceptional customer service! The Kirin, Kamikaze, and Spicy Lover rolls were phenomenal. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. Food was ready quickly. Will be my first stop next time I’m in Buffalo.
