Their wine flights were the best part of the evening, even though we had to ask repeatedly for additional drinks throughout the evening. The service was extremely slow, through out the night runners were offering plates to us thinking they were ours, when infact they were not. An hour after ordering, they brought out our entrées first. We told the runner we ordered appetizers, and he just walked away with the food. Then 20min later we got our appetizers. They were good. Then our food came BACK out and it was inedible. We ordered meals with "Wagyu" cuts [which means it should cut like butter and taste delicious!], but instead we got extremely tough, fatty, over cooked bits of beef. See spit out, unable to be chewed meat in the photos. They remade our order with cheaper cuts of meat (filets), but charged us the same on our bill. Though the new cuts of beef were edible, they were nothing special, especially for the price!! To add, the "chocolate mousse," tasted like someone scooped out some Nutella and put it in a glass with 1 chopped strawberry. After a 3 hour + experience on their uncomfortable chairs, we finally got the bill with no attempt to make right the poor slow service, or various mistakes of the evening. This place is definitely not worth the money spent - especially with the food being below average!

Update: Thurs., March 30, 2022: Bistro Sancerre has brought back their famous Rockfish! Stop in tonight and let your taste buds be overwhelmed! I have included a pic of their updated menu. Update Tues., March 30, 2021: Bistro Sancerre is still open and serving great food! Tuesday- Sunday 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Eat in, outside or order your food to goI! If you’re wanting a place that will make your taste buds soar, look no further than Alexandria's own Bistro Sancerre! Located just across from the King Street Metro Station you will find a French dining experience that will be well worth your walk/drive. Tonight my fiance and I started with the crab dip & baguettes, then on to the munkfish medallions with roasted cauliflower, golden raisins, capers, lemon, herbs & crisp prosciutto (Gluten Free!) & finally topped the evening off with a small French press coffee and the summer blueberry clofoutis with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream...yummy!! There are Gluten Free and Vegetarian options listed on the full menu (see pictures for menu), so most everyone can find something to please their paletts! If you've never been by here my question to you is, what's stopping you? Stop by for lunch, dinner every day of the week or brunch on Sundays, you won't be disappointed! Shout out to Roger, Thank you for the great service!! Enjoy!!

The restaurant is large and well-appointed on the inside including an art gallery area for both paintings and sculptures. It was a nice treat to view this area with a glass of wine of which there is a huge selection. The outside seating area is also large and is part of bigger quad area with trees and a center water fountain. Given the nice weather during the visit, this setup makes for a quiet and serene dinning experience. There is nothing else really like it in the Old Town area. There is no traffic noise or exhaust fumes as with the eateries along King Street. The food quantity, quality and preparation were outstanding with the main course being the New York Strip steak. Even though steaks can be ordered plain, several sauces are offered. The Cognac Peppercorn sauce is highly recommended and paired well with the red wine. The Brussels Sprout side dish was uniquely prepared allowing the seared balsamic flavor to be evenly distributed. The dessert were the Profiteroles with a flaky pastry and vanilla bean ice cream very reminiscent of the type offered in France. The accompanied warm sauce was made with a large amount of dark chocolate providing an intense flavor when poured over the cream filled pastry. Bistro Sancerre is unique in the Old Town area and will be visited again.

In response to owner: I do have a copy of the receipt. I have attempted to attach it here but can e-mail a copy as well. I went here and was so excited for a nice date night. The facility is beautiful and cozy. My boyfriend and I paid 60 dollars each for a plate of poorly seasoned steak and COMPLETELY raw scallops. Drinks were okay, and I liked the server except the fact that she didn't give us an itemized receipt, which already included a 20% tip for a table of two. In doing so, it seems that attempted to get double the tip. Over 220 dollars spent for what we hoped would be an excellent experience. We won't be back again.

What really stands out here is the excellent service. The service is attentive, professional and warm. The decor is clean with attractive paintings lining the walls of the upper floor. Be prepared for assertive flavors. If you like your steak with a char, this is the place for you.

What could be more French than quiche Lorraine and a petite salad? Go international with a cappuccino and you'll agree with server/bartender Dave that it's the perfect lunch, especially when the bill comes and it's only $15.50 plus tax. The lunch menu is a perfect way for someone on a budget to try French food. The quiche of the day, sandwiches and crepes, all served with a petite salad, range in price from $10 to $15. Across the street from the Metro and buses, it's a nice way to begin or end your visit to Old Town.

My wife and I went last night and had a wonderful meal. Escargot was fantastic. Ambience was nice. Wine selection was well selected for the menu offerings. A hidden gem in Alexandria.

Bistro Sancerre is a gem. This is an ultimate date or special occasion restaurant. The location on Duke Street is perfect. Easy parking or Metro. The restaurant is elegant, but relaxing. My bride loves the wonderful wine selection. She especially enjoys the wine racks where she can pick the dinner wines. The appetizers were excellent. The cheese & meat plate was a perfect size. Best, the Wagyu steaks were smooth as butter. The chef did a super job preparing our meals. The surprise Happy Birthday dessert was the perfect ending with French pressed coffee. The food experience is only topped by the outstanding Service and Staff. A family feeling from the moment you enter the Bistro. We will definitely make the Bistro part of our restaurant dining routine. Again, this is a definite must for a wonderful dining experience or celebration. A special thanks to Steven. Cheers!
