China Restaurant

There's no way this is Chinese food! No flavors or seasoning. The meat was really weird. The best I could describe the taste is it tasted like salt and watered down soy sauce. (For everything I ordered: fried rice, pork lo mein, potstickers) The only thing that had any sort of taste or seasoning was the egg drop soup. That was quite tasty. I always finish my food when I eat out, but this the first time ever I have thrown away any food (more than half of my leftovers). I understand the issue may be catering to the local taste tho, which unfortunately is not real Chinese food one bit.

Decent food (we ordered takeout for 6 people), busy place. Somewhat inefficient checkout, but heard they are short-staffed. Very friendly and polite owners. It looked like menu online differs a bit from in-house menu. For example, I didn't see honey chicken online, but menu at my parents' home had honey chicken listed. Typical Asian fare...amazing amount of chicken in the chicken fried rice.

If you've ever had Chinese food anywhere, anytime, you may be challenged to understand what you experience here. The best way I can put it is they must be catering to a hyper local audience who have that Minnesota palate desiring only bland flavors. I'm including even salt and pepper in the generous use of the term "flavor" - I mean there was zero seasoning, no salt, no pepper, in any dish or appetizer. It was truly strange to this table of eaters. The staff was friendly and engaging, though they should be careful not to clear table away while people are still putting food into to go containers. (Take home and add seasonings, sauces, etc.) One advantage was that entrees were very generous in their size/volume.

The exterior of the building is unassuming and you’re left in the parking lot wondering if you’re in the right place. The portions are good for one person but you’re better off getting several dishes to share if you’re with a group. The staff is friendly and the food came out quick. Not bad for a small town!

This is by far the best Chinese restaurant in Albert Lea. No wonder it has been in business for 28 years! The owner, who is usually our server, is very kind and sociable. The restaurant is pretty unassuming from the outside, but the interior is nice. Best of all, the China Restaurant has fantastic food. Any items I have had off the menu have been excellent. Favorites of mine are the 8 Treasure Chicken and the Orange Chicken. You can't go wrong. You may also order take out. Quick service for both order in and take out.
