The Alkaline Cafe

Delicious food and a lovely atmosphere. Nice little shop too. Yes, it's expensive and in small portions, but it is very wholesome, healthy food so priced accordingly. My only disappointment is that they offer dairy milk with coffee which I don't understand since they say "everything is vegan". And apparently they charge $1 for non-dairy milk (see review before me)? It would be awesome if they were 100% free of animal products so that vegans can support this business without supporting animal exploitation.

The portion sizes are too small for its cost, and the food isn't particularly tasty, especially considering the cost. The food was quite pleasing to look at however, and the cafe had a very beautiful atmosphere. Go if you highly value aesthetics and vibes, and you're fine with paying $22+ for flowers on your food.

Great pancakes and hot drinks. So good that we came again the next day for the vegan Reuben sandwich and a muffin - which were also delightfully delectable. The staff were also happy to change one of the smoothies for us on the fly while they were obviously quite busy. We tried a few other vegan places in Albany and they were not great. Alkaline is doing a great service in catering to the plant based travellers and locals.

Edit: If you are having so much trouble staying in business why would you reject customers because they were 7 minutes late (through no fault of their own) but due to your lack of proper advertising of closing times online? Beggars belief. With all your "staff issues and working around the clock" bleating you seem to have plenty of time for a sarcastic response. Keep ignoring the facts and content of the review which will be great for your business. For the record my friend was speechless and embarrassed when I told him! Inflexible and False advertising! Being vegetarian and gluten free we were excited to discover there was a Cafe dedicated to our dietary needs when we arrived in Albany. So my wife and I decided to have lunch here a few days ago to celebrate my birthday. Advertising said closes at 3 pm so we got there at 1.37 pm to to be told that the Kitchen closed at 1.30 pm and they couldn't take our order! It was also recommended by a friend whose daughter is the owner of this Cafe! Won't be back.
