Good food, small portions. If you aren’t a big eater, this is the place for you. We started with the Devils on Horseback, which are bacon wrapped dates. They were surprisingly good. The Chopped Spinach Salad was colorful and good. Three of us then shared the Bone-In Tomahawk Ribeye for three. Sadly, there was a lot more cauliflower on the plate than steak. While it was very tasty, we were so hungry when we finished that we actually stopped for pizza on the way home from dinner. For dessert we had the Bananas Foster and a Chocolate Brownie. While both were okay, nether one was worth writing home about. The two best things about the restaurant are the cool location (in Freeman’s Alley) and the talented bartender. The Cranberry Crush was nice and refreshing, and the Ocean Front View was good as well. Maybe if we had had more of the excellent drinks, we would have forgotten how small dinner actually was.

Great delicious tasting food, but this place gets 3.5 stars for me due to lack of service and overall experience being subpar at best. We ordered the steak, pork shop, deviled horseback (bacon wrapped dish) and the banana foster for dessert. We shared all the dishes between 3 people and were quite full! The acoustics and noise level in the restaurant made it a bit challenging to hear the person across from me, and the seating arrangement we had was right beside the bar so people kept bumping into my chair and made the experience a bit unpleasant. Overall, the meal was delightful (and I’d probably give the food 4.5 stars), but dining in is an experience and the lack of it brought this rating down to 3.

Loved this place. The artichoke dip was beyond! I could’ve eaten that one dish all night. Their cocktails are also delicious and the service was great! Such a beautiful place with great atmosphere. Would definitely come back here

Cool relaxed atmosphere at Freeman’s down the alley. Artichoke dip and brussel sprout salad appetizer were great- I could have had this as a main! Yum! The roasted chicken and farro was nice, but nothing out of the ordinary, however the banana’s foster brought it home. 4 stars because the service was a little slow.

We stayed in the apartments beside Freeman’s and fell in love! The Huevos rancheros was a delicious and hearty meal and the chicken and waffles were the absolute best. The drinks were unique and tasty! We went back New Year’s Eve for drinks and champagne toast. The staff were warm and welcoming. We will be back for bananas foster before we leave! Oh and don’t miss the artichoke dip!! 🤤

This place is hard to find. Be sure to check out google maps first. It is worth the effort and a bit of fun to walk down a long alley filled with graffiti to arrive at the joint. Loud and fun. 3 bars. One just inside the front door is the least fun, one to the right and several rooms ahead is small but lots of fun, upstairs secret bar is not open often, but quieter with available. Food is awesome. Must have the artichoke dip. Killer!!! "Devils on Horseback" are not deviled eggs like 99% of the customers believe. They are dates filled with blue cheese and wrapped in bacon then cooked to a crispy crunch. They are totally different than you expect but they are great. Loved the mussels app as well. Hangar steak was tender and very well flavored. Bananas foster desert was incredible. We love fun loud places like this and we will return often. I tried to get as many photos as I could be it is dark inside so bear with me. Lots of animals on the walls that make it different. Be sure to walk around upstairs and downstairs to see all of the different rooms. Walk down the alley like you know what you are doing and everyone will think you are an insider. This is a super safe hood so do not be afraid of the alley at all. Check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. We had over 7 million views in 2021 and we thank you for that. We don't get paid, we just love to eat and do reviews. Vibes. Allow me to describe how one arrives at this place. Imagine walking along Sara Roosevelt park and noticing a small side street. Interesting, you think to yourself, as you feel drawn to change your plans. As if pushed by an invisible hand, you change course and walk down the side street. Looking around you notice an alley with some interesting artwork on the walls. There are also trash bins but you step around them to get a closer look at the art. You notice the alley has a dog leg and you feel an urge to see the end. Walking towards the bend you feel a sense of curiosity. The kind an explorer must feel as they near a magnificent vista few have ever seen. As you pass the bend you see a quaint door. If you have ever played a video game, this door is familiar. It is the kind of door hiding an excellent side quest, written by the game designers as a hidden easter egg for themselves, their friends, and die hard fans. The door draw compels you to enter and find out what lies behind it. Opening the door reveals this hidden gem, Freemans, which has a cozy feel and low key vibes. The bar is a welcoming place to sit and sip. The restaurant offers a singular ambiance which, provided you are not trying to be too cool, will inspire you. The food and drinks are good enough to not distract from the setting which will allow you and your company to create a wonderful memory or two.

The place is gorgeous! We got a table upstairs which was less noisy. The artichoke dip was excellent, but my Norwegian benedict was just ok as the English muffins weren't toasted. The 2 drinks I ordered were also just ok. Our waiter was very friendly, but overall I found the food somewhat average.
