The Summit Restaurant

Please read all the online reviews of this restaurant from people coming in from out of the area and not the local guide. I wish we would have done better research. We stayed at the Shangri-la hotel. We were told we could enjoy the same amenities as the club members. We were advised to eat at this restaurant. We booked a reservation for our 35th wedding anniversary, hoping to enjoy a wonderful dinner with a view. What they don't tell you until you get there is that the view is for Members only. Once they throw you up against a wall or at the bar, then they will fill you in on that. They were completely unashamed about using our special celebration to supplement their elitism.

We had an amazing experience dining here. To start, the upstairs outdoor seating has wonderful views of the golf course and lake, and the staff was extremely nice to our 3-year old. We started with the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer, and it was delicious. The bacon wrapping kept the shrimp moist, and the flavor was terrific. My wife had the Hawaiian Ono fish special, and it was amazing. It was an incredibly rich fish, and the bok choy that it came with added a great taste. Finally, I had the Gorgonzola filet mignon. That was delicious.

Awesome dinner, asked for slow and no hurry and our server did exactly that. She was attentive and thorough. Prime rib rib eye was delicious and cooked to perfection. My wife had the filet and it was tender flavorful and cooked to perfection. The shrimp With Cajun seasonings appetizer was also delicious. We had a great experience nice glad of wine would highly recommend.

Made reservations in advance to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary. We had never been here and was expecting a great evening. Upon arrival there were just a couple of tables filled in the front room. They seated us at a table up against a wall with an a/c vent directly under our table. We asked to be moved to a table with a view. They said they are reserved. However, it wasn't until we were leaving that they seated anyone at those tables with a view, this was almost 2 hrs later. The food - we ordered steak & salmon - salmon was good, steak was fair; it took almost an hour for these to be served. It is an expensive place and we expected the food to be excellent. They did give us 1 complimentary desert as an anniversary surprise, it was so nasty tasting we only took a couple of bites - tasted freezer burned. As we were checking out they did apologize for the seating and said it was due to people canceling, which doesn't make any sense; if people were canceling wouldn't there be more seating available. The room itself is old and tired looking. The clothing attire - there were people in cut offs, wet hair, etc etc. in both dining rooms. We thought this was a fine dining restaurant at Shangri-La, it is not. The whole experience was unacceptable and very disappointing.

So unfortunate. I was visiting my grandmother from Texas. She loves The Summit & I wanted to take her to dinner Saturday evening before I left for Texas Sunday. They wouldn't accommodate my 5pm reservation because I wasn't a member. In the past, it's empty when we have dined early. I'm sad for her because she really loves the food. Hopefully she will make it to Texas soon so I can show her it's subpar compared to our fine dining!
