Our friends highly recommended this restaurant to us, so we went on our 3 months wedding anniversary :D
It’s so small and we passed it…..but it’s really a hidden gem. We love the warm environment, indoor and outdoor. Afternoon we saw the wood fire brick oven, we totally fell in love with this restaurant.
We ordered the salad and mussels as appetizer. Well, salad was salad, good salad, but still just salad. Mussels are really good, yummy yummy. But, wait, what we love the most is pizza!! After we ordered two pizza: margarita and customized topping pizza, we even ordered another to go because they were so so so good.
And finally, house made cheese cake and Bumba (do I spell right?) as desserts….perfect.
Since we went on Wednesday, there was only pizza available. We’d like to go back again on other days to try their other foods.
Anyway, they have the best pizza we have ever had in Orange County, no, in NYS, no, in the States so far (Note: I have been to 40 out of 50 states so far). So, highly highly recommended.
Great hole in the wall restaurant. The entire staff is super friendly and welcoming. The food is absolutely amazing. Veal parm was mouthwatering. The vodka sauce was so perfect that i had to get a "to-go" jar of it to have at home the following day. Great home feel great to see the whole family involved in the restaurant. Definitely will be back again. Next camping trip we will stop by. 5 stars is not enough stars for the love and hospitality they showed us
Looking at my first review of Giovanni’s I can’t believe it was 6 years ago we first stumbled upon this place, loved it then love it now. We are from NYC and have been coming back as often as we can. Wonderful old school Italian, great warm rustic atmosphere, authentic food and great service. This is a real gem in the Catskills that could hold its own in NYC’s Little Italy! My favorite dishes are the veal parmigiana, tender, a large portion with a big side of pasta, the eggplant parmigiana melts in your mouth, the mussels marinara are fresh and succulent served with garlic bread, the broth is amazing, we return the plate clean every time! Everything is always fresh, plentiful and very reasonable. For 3 of us it’s under $100, can’t beat that! Sadly, COVID ended the live singing every Saturday night, but that doesn’t change the great food, drinks and reasonable prices.
Oh and in the summer Wednesday is Pizza night, you will find Giovanni in the outdoor garden at the brick pizza oven cooking up pies all night, fantastic pizza!
Drove past there, many times, but never went in so after reading the reviews, we decided to give it a try. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh! I had the mushroom ravioli, and it was to die for!We had fresh, roasted zucchini from their own garden that was just delicious! My husband had the veal parm and my brother in law had the fish. Definitely going back!! We would definitely recommend this to family and friends!!!
My friends and I were there for one of the last "pizza nights" of the season. And oh wow, the mushroom pie was absolutely the tastiest pizza I've ever had. I'm not kidding as I'm spoiled by NYC pizza places which are supposed to be the best in the world. I stand corrected and I think the pizza chef is Giovanni himself. Fantastico!
Delicious food served well in a wonderful atmosphere. We love it here and have gone numerous times, always 5 star!
After 7 years of living in Wurtsboro we finally went here! We ordered pizzas and went kayaking at the Bashakill. The pizza was good so we got more the next day 😁 We also had the chicken piccota dinner option hoping we could share it but it wasn’t enough. We will definitely be coming back for the pizza and to try other items from the menu.
It saddens me that I moved away from this location because THIS is real Italian food I can eat all the time! Pizza is to die for and their other dishes are delicious. I recommend this place to everyone who heads up that way and encourage them to stop in, I'm about an hour away but that doesn't stop me from going in from time to time.
This place is magic. Relaxed. Outdoor seating in the garden. Plenty of shade and the pizza is perfection.
Good food, a large selection of options on the menu, and a country charm like nowhere else. And a piano player and saloon singer from the Golden Age of songwriting. This place is fun!
To dismiss this dine-in experience with an old rustic appearance would be missing out on arguably one of the best restaurants in Hudson valley on a variety of fronts - food, genuinely warm and attentive service, and a sense of nostalgia that exudes the walls of this place for even those of us who don't know the history.
Starting with food - mussels Fra diavolo, chicken picatta, with the mussels cooked to perfection. Their cannolis are just the best we have ever had. Oh - I almost forgot the Irish coffee.
If we are lucky the owner and cook - essentially Robert De Niro in disguise with a beard, will saunter through the dining room and talk to us. It is "love at first sight" regardless of our gender identification, with this warm and gentle soul whose secret for long life is "hard work and wine".
There are a few places in Hudson valley, tucked away hidden gems that have survived the test of time and general economic malaise that is hard to miss despite the predominant natural beauty of mountains and the green. Giovanni's inn is certainly right on top - and the fact that it has been there for over 30 years is evidence of both the quality and dining experience, not to mention the sheer grit to survive so many years. And we learned they make Pizzas on Wednesdays and Thursdays in a wide open space within the premise on brick ovens made by the owner himself. We are going back for the Pizzas.
Very good homey classic Italian dishes. Beautiful surrounds whether sitting outdoors or inside the rustic decor is very nice.
Giovannis is a quaint restaurant for Italian cuisine. The staff is very friendly. You will definitely keep this restaurant in mind for a great meal.
Driving by you may not think Giovanni's is open. Stopping is well worth it. Upon entering you step back in time. Its a warm nostalgic atmosphere. The wait staff are friendly and accommodating. A wonderful basket of bread is served with dinner. And the food is fantastic.a must visit if you love Italian food.
It’s not what it seems from the outside. Makes you kinda skeptical but we’ve been wanting to go for a while now. The food is outstanding. The atmosphere takes your mind off of whatever you were thinking about. The staff is very friendly and the owner is very nice. It’s now one of our favorite places. We ordered 2 glasses of wine and a Budweiser, mozzarella sticks as appetizer, chicken parm and eggplant parm for diner(comes with bread and house salads) and mascarpone cheese. Total was an unbeatable $85. The way the eggplant was made is exactly how I like it. Thin, not greasy, just the right amount of much cheese. It’s not a fancy place but makes you feel at home.
We will definitely come back.. the food and service are amazing!!
Cozy and relaxing - a true dining experience to be enjoyed. Hands down the BEST pizza around and consistently delicious dinners. I would eat at Giovanni's everyday if I could! :):)
Good ambience, great food. Brick oven pizza on Wednesdays in the summer. Outdoor dining is super nice. Take your time to enjoy the food and company, but this isn't a place to go when you are in a rush or starving :-)
Simply amazing. The atmosphere, the staff, the food...all incredible. Do not let the location or exterior fool you, this is a top class institution. As soon as you walk in, the atmosphere is very warm, welcoming, and comfortable. You are immediately greeted by friendly and professional staff who make you feel as though your business is genuinely appreciated. The food wait is not long, but even if it were, it would be completely worth every second. From the appetizers straight through until desert, every dish is incredibly well planned and prepared. The flavors were out of this world, no matter how cliche that may sound. I would have never really expected to find a dining experience of this caliber out here, but alas here it is. I would recommend Giovanni's to anyone and everyone.
