Review Hong Kong Island Restaurant - Worcester

Szechuan beef with string beans. 7 small pieces of rubbery wonder meat in a bland sauce with no spice whatsoever hiding in a mountain of undercooked green beans. I would've laughed if I wasn't still hungry. Waste of money and time.

Not what I expected. We ordered pork chow mein and general tso chicken. I am used to the long fried noodles as chow mein (just google chow mein) What we got instead was a small back of short crispy noodles and a box of bean sprouts and some pork. We were instructed to mix them. (See picture below) I had called them right away and they were very quick to respond which is good. But they insisted that is normal chow mein. When I brought up the general tso chicken looking and tasting like orange chicken she insisted they make general tso chicken with orange peels. Remembering all other previous orders at other restaurants and again googling to ensure I wasn't crazy, supposedly general tsos chicken is made with chili, not orange. I would have given this place one star but the pupu platter was good and they were courteous enough over the phone. In general though, little bummed at not getting what we expected.

Amazing place!! 10/10 food, prices are a bit bad but the food is incredible. The staff is nice and friendly, if you ever go there, ask for Kevin. He's an amazing chef.

Amazing food, would come again. There is a great janitor called Kevin who is also the main chef that cooks the best food that I've ever tried. 5 stars!!!

After 20 + years , I can no longer support this business. The prices are astronomical and insulting. An appetizer of chicken wings went from $11.75 to $15.95 in a years span. Portions have been greatly reduced, and the quality of food is inconsistent. The foods look and taste changes every order. The raise in inflation is no justification for price gouging customers, especially for lower quality and quantity. This business should change its name ,so not to embarrass the hard work of the former owners.

Have always loved it here! Delicious meal as always! I especially liked the orange chicken and crab Rangoons. Kind staff as well!

I really wish there was an option less than a star for this review. I have been to Hong Kong Island a couple of times since China Express in West Boylston closed down. I called in an order like i usually do and spoke to the Asian lady who usually attends to the register. I placed my order for my usual pork fried rice and said i wanted 4 large chicken wings. I wasn't told the total on the phone. I went in to pick up and the same Asian lady attended to me. She said my order was about $56 and i quickly objected. There had been a misunderstanding and she thought i meant 4 orders of Chicken wings. Clearly there was miscommunication. So i politely told her this is not what i was looking to get but instead wanted only 4 pieces and was sorry for the misunderstanding. She got very annoyed and started going off about the order and saying i need to pay for it regardless. I could pay for it, but her attitude was very foul so i wasn't going to. During her angry rhetoric she mentioned i should pay for 2 of the chicken orders because she will have to eat the rest as a loss. I was very shocked by the level of disrespect. I decided to go ahead and pay for 2 of the orders instead of one, as i was taking my money out she blurted out (you need to learn "the" English). Immediately, i was like, excuse me! You cannot speak to a paying customer that way. Another customer walked in at the time to witness this lady going off. I told her not to speak to me that way because i frequently buy from there and will not want this to be a reason i do not come back. She said "I don't care if you come back or not". I then realized it will be very foolish for me to give my money to a business owner that cares less and can be very disrespectful to her customers. I put my $40 back in my wallet and walked out. I drove to Miku Restaurant on 184 West Boylston St which just opened in West Boylston. I am so glad that this incident happened. The service was phenomenal and very quick and the food , oh my God is out of this world. I will never go to Hong Kong Island again, i am not asking anyone to avoid there either, but when someone who is struggling to form a sentence tells me with my multiple graduate degrees to go learn "the" English , i believe as a consumer it is my responsibility to let others know what to expect when you walk into those doors. This just happened yesterday by the way. I hope she learns to be respectful to her customers and drop her pride. Miku, was very affordable. They even gave me utensils without me asking for it or they getting grumpy like Hong Kong island, and everyone there is happy to see you and have your business. Go try there and you will see what i am talking about. have a good day.
