This was such a fun experience! The food was amazing, atmosphere was elegant and the staff was extremely polite. The decor of the dining carts are old fashioned and quaint. Even the ladies room was adorable. Walking the train afterwards was one of the best parts. It was the perfect way to celebrate our 22nd anniversary.
What a great time. 5 course dinner on a train ride with beautiful scenery. Not pictured: an amazing, fresh dinner roll that we devoured before taking pictures. The service staff was quick and accurate. Great vintage vibe. Food was really good. So worth the investment of time and money. An unique experience and way to experience the northeast.
This place offers us a very cozy vibe for a fine dining experience… light music, delicious food and cocktails, good service… I highly recommend if someone visit Newhampshire in Fall.
Was looking for a Sunday brunch and this place did not show up on Google maps under breakfast or brunch, but we drove past the Sunday Brunch sign on Main St and turned right around to check it out. Cool place with additional seating upstairs. It was snowing so the views were amazing. Brunch menu is small but excellent. The best croissant I've ever eaten in my life came with the Eggs Benedict. The Flamenco skillet was unbelievable. We feel like we found a true diamond in the rough here. Every place in town was 1-2 hour wait but here we were, alone, dining at what might be the best restaurant in the area. Can't wait to try something else next time or to attend one of their train dinners.
Amazing experience! I would recommend this to everyone. Very relaxing atmosphere and period decor. Spacious feeling, only 12 tables per car, you couldn’t hear conversations form the other tables. It was like being socially distant.
The temperature in the car was very cold and the food could have been hotter.
An incredible, worthwhile experience. Not only was the ride enjoyable and inclusive of gorgeous, scenic river views, but the food was delightful. A full 5 courses (6 if sorbet is counted) carefully prepared and divided among the entire ride so that there is not one segment without some treat. Full bar service and carefully presented cuisine made this experience one to never forget and well worth the price tag. Every meal is served with fluffy (and large) buttered rolls, a light salad, a preset dessert, & sorbet. You choose between a rotating selection of appetizer and entree.
That being said, it is the service that is above and beyond. Not only is the staff one-of-a-kind, consistently keeping on top of all aspects of your needs, but they do so with kindness in such a welcoming way. Due to a personal scheduling error I had accidentally arrived a day prior to my reservation. Distraught, I had assumed the worst. Yet, the staff at Cafe Lafayette arranged for myself and my partner to still have a seat on board. I am truly appreciative of this and feel that it simply cemented the all around wonderful experience.
If you want to enjoy a delectable dinner with delightful views of the scenic New Hampshire countryside (or are just a train aficionado like myself) do consider Cafe Lafayette!
Cute cafe... everything was good to taste... turns out bit expensive as the portion size is very very small.. but I enjoyed every bit of food and drink.
I highly recommend pub fries... they were the best among everything else we had.
Good job guys... 👏 👍
We paid around 85 usd for 2 people and one of us did not eat much so it's not filling. But I would say it's still a good place .. cozy. Train is not running in winter but the cafe is still cute.
So I just recently went on the train with my friend and I loved the vintage feel and atmosphere. The music was right for the vintage feel. I loved the stained antique glass throughout the train. I reserved the main level dining instead of the deluxe (someone told me that the deluxe is where they group you together and have no space), so if you can reserve the main level dining if you can for ample amount of space between people. The food was amazing and cozy like you were at home. I would say if you live in New England that views would be better in the fall, seeing the foliage but it was a nice 2 1/2 hours of a relaxing time on the train. I would definitely return again once the trees start changing color. Also adding this to your vacation plans would be something I'd look into.
Love the historical train! Wish the track was a bit more interesting...I can view people's back yards from the highway, too.
Service was great. Well times food arrived with friendly faces.
Food was good, but not anything memorable. I did the stuffed chicken and was a little disappointed; it didn't feel crafty or homemade, or matching the atmosphere. Salad was the high note; fresh and clean...was great.
I took my daughter back in time when she turned 21 I took her on a dinner train ride in Rhode Island. Since that one was no longer in operation I found this one in the White mountains. It was majestic and beautiful and the atmosphere was perfect. If you love Romance or an elegant dinner with a friend or loved one, I definitely and highly recommend this journey.

Awesome experience!! Very romantic, intimate dining aboard the train. Food is delicious and the serving style truly allows you to enjoy each course. Menu items may change based on the time of year that you go.
The food -- Overall, superior service, presentation and taste!! It would be nice to have bread/rolls during the entire meal instead of only getting 1 at the beginning.
Also, the appetizer portion is small... Like, kids-menu size. We had the Creole Shrimp cakes & they were really good!
Atmosphere -- beautiful!! Very pleasant music plays in the background for the entire ride. The train cars hold about 6-8 tables for 2 people at each table, so it's a very small & intimate dining experience.
The renovated train cars are historical & provide more ambience to the experience.
This is located in the mountains of New Hampshire, so during the fall you are able to see the leaves falling & changing colors. The route is 10 miles forward & 10 miles back/in reverse on the same track. That was kind of disappointing as it would have been nice to have the train circle around & allow passengers to see both sides of the scenery while riding.
This is a must-do if you are in New Hampshire & looking for something different to experience for dinner. Staff is super friendly & ready to assist with anything!
We sat on the upper level and had an absolutely wonderful date night
(very romantic)
Pharrah was exceptional! She was so sweet and personal. The entire crew were fantastic. We loved every moment and highly recommend.
It’s a beautiful and romantic place.
Ladies who work there they are so kind.
From of welcome to the end of this trip is a magic time every single detail is remarkable.
my fiance and I enjoyed a lot the delicious menu, view and tour !
Definitely we will back soon!!!
This is such an enjoyable ride. The food was fantastic, full bar on board and the staff is very efficient and friendly. Price is very reasonable for a lovely and unique evening.
A great experience and relaxing 2 hour dinner train ride. This is fine dining not a bunch of garbage food that’s dumped onto a plate. It’s a 5 course meal that was very satisfying. The train ride was through the NH countryside. So yes you see houses, storage units, Rivers, streams and mountains..all what New Hampshire is. Disregard the few negative reviews( not many)those people don’t get out much and watch way too much South Park- see Yelper episode 😂
This is a really cool experience for a special occasion. My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary, and we both really enjoyed it. The food is delicious, they have good drinks, the servers are friendly, and the ride itself is relaxing and really pretty. I would definitely suggest going during peak leaf peeping season or maybe in the summertime when it won't get dark so fast, but it was still a nice ride in early November. Do keep in mind that gratuities and bar service aren't included in the fee, but everything else is, and my bf and I left with full, happy tummies.
The food was delicious and the ride is very comfortable. Wait ataff are friendly and attentive. In my opinion it was worth the price
