Denny's

Honestly the only reason why I am leaving a 4 star review is due to the old lady who served both my wife and I. When we went into this place it was packed full of hungry guest... so you can imagine what the 3 waitresses had to go through with both the guest and the kitchen. There were at least 10 people in the kitchen slinging meals left to right. So the food being made was not the problem, it was the matter of sanitation. The meals were being made so fast that they stacked plates of food upon plates of food. Now I've never seen this be done in a restaurant with an open window. But behold, it was so. Large groups of people poured into the limited spaced restaurant, and I could sense a rather frustrated vibe in the air. Be it so we knew what we were getting into, the waitress doing her very best, making sure every one got what they needed. The food wasn't the best due to its rushed nature, but that old lady was something from a classic diner in a 50s movie. Our food wasn't expensive given we'd bought only but a few things. Yet we were so moved by her efforts we left her a nice sized tip. And cleaned up our table for her. Honestly I wouldn't go back for the food but I would go back just for the serves of that lady. I wish I remembered her name, but she knows who she is.

It's a Denny's. I don't have a high standard. Passable food served fast is my first standard and this Denny's did that. My second standard is decent service. Fast service is part of that but so is at least an iota of listening. I was rushed through my experience. Out of the maybe two or three times the waitress came to the table I was given half a second to respond before I'd be interrupted or what I was saying would be assumed by her. I got the feeling she didn't want to bother. Fine. That'd been a three star. Then I got to the front to pay. The hostess seemed lovely. She was being berated by one of the waitresses over a territorial dispute on the tables. The waitress was rude and assuming. "I got skipped, put the next group in the corner". The poor hostess asked "what if they don't want to sit in the corner". She was ignored. I wish I could've tipped her directly. The food was fine. Staff was, for the most part, grating. They didn't get along with each other and it was palpable. They passed that attitude on. Even with the half baked smiles and faux happiness. Get it together. Be grateful you're even working. Don't make your bad attitude the customer's problem.
