On any given sunny day, I am woefully enticed to walk over to the friendliest most deliciousest sandwich shop in town. Their sandwiches are made with primo ingredientes and never fail to please my palate and my tummy. The decor is on point and the library is well stocked. The back patio is inviting and has great acoustics :) Thank you so much Allister and all staff for curating such a welcoming space. See you soon!
If i could be a fan girl about a deli it would be this one. I'm gonna go on record to say its the best sandwich I've ever eaten every time I go.
Cool little place off the beaten path of Downtown Wilmington, so hence the Detour name! Lots of options for all types of sandwiches... Hoagies, Clubs, Po-boys, etc! Very happy that I decided to try it! I had the #27...can't remember the name (all sandwiches have a name attached) Charles something...either way, it was very tasty!
Nice little place in the Brooklyn Arts district. Hearty, fresh sandwiches. Italian hoagie stuffed with meat and cheese. The roasted pork Bahn mi had a crusty roll and full of pickled veggies.
This place is a true gem. I met a friend here for lunch today and was enamoured by the use of a small building. The atmosphere was semi private however the lunch crowd was a steady stream. My photo shows a view of one side of the building, we actually sat at a table up front that you cannot see.
I ordered #13. Turkey & Chorizo on a torta bread with, queso fresco, black bean spread, lettuce, onion, roma tomatoes and sriracha mayo. For $1 more, I added cilantro, lime and jalapenos. This sandwich was large and made my taste buds sing a symphony. The bread is really large, but thin and crunchy. The filling is mucho grande. (Very Big) I would eat it again tomorrow.
This was my first visit to Detour Deli and Cafe, after being enticed by a certain sandwich on their social media post and I'm glad I made the short trip for a Friday lunch.
FOOD: The Martin M. Goldsmith sandwich - Pastrami, creamy cole slaw, Swiss Cheese and a house sauce all on pressed Rye bread with caraway seeds! The daily special also included an upgraded bag of chips and I added a bottled sweet tea to complete the meal. The sandwich was great! The pastrami, cheese and slaw were all fresh and the grilled Rye bread made it incredible. Detour does something a little different than most delis in town and I like their play.....value!! This sandwich included half of the meat stacked inside but then again...this sandwich, alone, does not cost $10 - $14 by itself. The entire combo was $10 ($12.50 after tip). You just can't beat this value and I was full afterward. The slaw was tangy, creamy and the cabbage had great "crunch" to it. Overall, it's an incredible sandwich and was more than sufficient for me. SCORE: 4.7 STARS!!
SERVICE: I had the pleasure of meeting Al when I walked up to place my order. Inside dining is not allowed at this time and the front entrance has been converted to one large ordering / pickup station. Al was friendly, cordial, masked and gloved up. The special was out in less than 7 minutes and I was thanked for coming by. SCORE: 5 STARS!!
OVERALL SCORE: Found another good one in Wilmington! The flavors are awesome, the service was great and Detour has some incredible value built into their menu. I look forward to ordering something new next time around and am very happy to have found this gem. 4.8 STARS!!
Amazing sandwiches and such a fun and chill staff. The place has books to read and a back patio to sit and enjoy while eating. Love this place.
It's a killer sandwich shop; creative and delicious. Great vegan options as well.
AMAZING sandwiches and the staff is so freaking nice!! Certain chips and beverages are included too which rocks!!
Sandwiches are best in Wilmington. The name is it, it's a detour to get here but it's the way you have to go for a quality sandwich. Guys who work there are nice and helpful. They get a lot of pickup orders around lunch fyi order early to help them out. But they'll get you food fast in any case.
It's worth the slight detour for this food. I drive across town for it. Recommend to people visiting from out of town or locals looking for suggestions. Everyone's reported back it was really good.
Fresh and delicious, friendly and chill in an up and coming artsy neighborhood with two breweries within walking distance.
I was pleasantly surprised but I really enjoyed my pork banh mi here which is #4 on their top 5 sandwich list. The pork was juicy and I love the heavy hand with the pickled daikon and carrots and cilantro so fresh. The baguette is hard to describe but it's light enough to not make you feel heavy but sturdy enough to not turn soggy with the pickled veg. The guy who took my order was fast and friendly. Keeping this one in rotation
