Review Platypus And Gnome - Wilmington

Great first time experience at Platypus and Gnome for an early Friday night dinner date. The restaurant has a great energy and an incredibly unique menu with game meat you won’t see elsewhere. Our starter was the fresh seared tuna and it was SO GOOD! for entrees we had the Elk burger and the Kangaroo steak panini. The burger was fantastic and had delicious GF bread. The panini was also delicious but the sauce used was not ideal for the kangaroo steak. We may try something different next time. Overall, the experience was wonderful, from the food to the service to the atmosphere. The only recommendation we would make is to not sit upstairs in the summer, it’s as if there is no A/C in the building and it was quite warm!

The food was fantastic 👌 BUT… DO NOT SIT IN THR BACK LEFT CORNER (look in the restaurant from front door) at the table in the smaller are area.. we sat there tonight and there was absolutely no air flow. We all were so hot and uncomfortable, we couldn’t even finish eating we felt sick from being so hot. Otherwise it was great, server was super chill and helpful. Didn’t have to wait for our food long at all.

Wow! They weren't kidding when they said eclectic! lol But what can I say, I'm now a convert for a fried egg on pizza... with seared kangaroo. My mom & I had a lovely time. Very relaxed and chill. I think as time goes by that this restaurant will only improve.

First time to try the place. Service was ok we had to ask for utensils and napkins as we watched others being seated and given everything. You must try their fries they have. They are intense. Very eclectic choice of meats. The duck was amazing. Actually it was all delicious. Will definitely be back. Can't let 1 issue stop you from trying again.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Platypus & Gnome restaurant and I must say, it was a fantastic experience! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was top-notch. Patty, our host, was amazing and made us feel right at home. She was warm, friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. Our server was equally attentive and made sure that we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The restaurant has a cozy and inviting atmosphere which made for a great dining experience. The best part was that everyone in our group enjoyed the food! There was something for everyone on the menu and all dishes were prepared to perfection. Overall, I highly recommend Platypus & Gnome restaurant. The food is delicious, the service is excellent and the atmosphere is perfect for a great meal out. If you're in the area, definitely come by and try their food. You won't be disappointed!

Friendly staff. Bathroom was cute and clean. Loved the faucet. Quirky interior and I love gnomes. Saw a few. Friendly and professional staff. Close to market street parking deck. The fries actually cooked with seasoning salt and not just added after. Bacon bacon burger is love.

Stopped in to try something new and new is what we got. This place has meats from all around. Bison, wild boar, kangaroo, elk, duck, and ostrich. The panini with wild boar was amazing. The Platypus burger was a regular ground brisket burger, which was also good. It wasn't too busy when we went and they also have weekly drink specials. Definitely a place to try if you are wanting something "different".

This is an AMAZING restaurant!! We visited Willmington for the day (vacationing in Carolina Beach) and needed to eat at a restaurant that could accommodate my special needs. The salads were delicious and the unusual meat offerings were INCREDIBLE! Be adventurous and try something new on their menu. The yucca chips and huarana dip were so good that our granddaughter ate it with a spoon@ Thank you, Platypus & Gnome for a GREAT meal!

Updated 6/9/22- there are some new menu items that are AMAZING!! Definitely check out the yak poutine- it's phenomenal! The elk burger is always a great choice. My whole family was going out for a birthday dinner, and when we called, P&G was able to immediately accommodate a party of 7 on a Sunday night! We had the best view sitting outside with people watching! Our waitress was fantastic and gave us great recommendations about our food and drinks along with having a great personality and sense of humor. Most everyone ordered various burgers which were all fantastic. My mom and I split the seared tuna entree which honestly I wish I had ordered all for myself- everything was so delicious! I love this restaurant, and tonight reconfirmed that love!

Was one of the better restaurants I've been to since I've been back in the states after my tour of the Mediterranean. The wild game Cubano reminded of being back in Greece, and was just delightful. I don't remember what the little chocolate cake was called, but for 12 bucks it's a nice single serving, definitely not gonna share it anyway. The staff is lovely (at least the 3 that were working when I went), and my waitress was supper friendly in making suggestions. Around 5pm before a local festival and there was almost absolutely no wait or many customers, which is surprising at the quality of food and service at the time I was lucky enough to experience it.

First time here last night with DH and two others. DH dined here a few days earlier and brought home half of his Platyburger. I ate his leftovers. Wow, I really loved it. I’ve wanted to dine here for quite a while. I ordered the Platyburger, medium-rare (made of brisket, short-rib, and chuck). It's topped with a garlic aioli, lettuce, tomatoes and onion; and dill pickles. I added Gouda cheese. It was juicy and oh so flavorful. It was a little messy to hold because of the aioli and juice from the burger, but I didn’t care. I ate it all! Really, really good! Along with the burger, I had the Tabbouleh, which was crunchy from the vegetables and a little sweetness from the cherries. It was a nice, healthy side that complimented the burger. DH ordered the smokehouse Panini that included fried chicken tenders, wild boar, smoked bacon, smoked gouda cheese (he skipped the BBQ sauce); and hand cut fries. I had a couple bites of each and they were equally as good as what I ordered. Our two friends ordered the Platyburger and the A Little Off-Beet salad. My friend who ate the burger said it was good; and my other friend loved her salad. We ordered a couple round of drinks. I had their Platypus Mule, which I enjoyed. Our waitress was apologetic while we were waiting for our first round of drinks. There was a large dinner party and the bartender was pretty busy. We didn’t mind at all. One cute thing I noticed is that the kid’s menu states for, “4,563 days or younger.” You do the math. Their menu has a variety of “exotic game meats,” such as wild boar, elk, ostrich, rabbit, duck, etc. They also have weekend specials and rotate their menu based on the season, so other times they will have other exotic meats like kangaroo, lamb, and venison. We’ll be back!!

It's great! Good burgers, I really enjoyed the elk burger, but get the fries as a side. The alternative sides, veggies and quinoa, are just fine... Tasty Bloody Marys on Sunday special too!

We ate here before heading over to a concert at the Live Oak Bank Pavilion. The food was good and the staff were friendly. Our waiter was attentive and the food came out quickly. I had the Bacon Bacon Burger. It was good and so were the fries. I’m not sure why, but the fries had a different flavor that we liked. Maybe they fried them in a different oil?

This place was really neat! My family and I decided to try this place, and the food was excellent. I'm am vegetarian and was happy to find stuff I can eat. The staff was amazing and super friendly!

Beginner adventurous eaters, start here! If you are looking for variety in your diet, there is Elk, Ostrich and Boar, just to name a few. Perfect pairings, craft cocktails and decadent appetizers. Don't be afraid to try new things, they are all above and beyond already high expectations! If you need help with what to order, Adriana is your girl! Kind, helpful and energetic, she should be nicknamed Help360°! Thanks a million, Adriana, for creating a smooth transitional space for my parents to meet my Boyfriend 😜

Absolutely amazing food and even more amazing staff!! Can’t lie was pretty nervous when I heard they were moving locations, but wow i’m amazed! I swear the food got even better! They even have GELATO!! (the coconut is my favorite) definitely a must if you’re in the Wrightsville beach area!!

The food was delicious. We had the Scottish egg( that was my first and was delicious)app.. see attached photo!! The bacon burger was delish, the bacon jam was off the chain. My partner ordered the smoked duck sandwich. The food and service was great. Highly recommend!!
