Compelled to leave a five star review. Usually a last resort if didn't want to go to Queens and always did take out but was usually disappointed by the portion size and was still hungry after spending $$. This time around, immediately noticed more food in bigger containers. They made it less salty as requested through their online ordering. Hopefully this is the norm now. Delicious and worth it
If you're looking for a legitimate, though somewhat small, sit down Chinese restaurant in Williston Park, this is the place to go. This place had all tables filled by 1PM. The place only opened at noon!
The food is authentic, flavourful, and down right fantastic. Nothing was overly greasy, or salty, which tends to happen in some Chinese restaurants. Food was prepared fresh, and was generous. Pricing is on par with other Chinese restaurants based on LI. Staff was attentive with taking orders, clearing plates, and getting me the check quickly.
Overall I'm excited about the place and would definitely come back to try the other items on the menu. Please see my pictures for the items I ate today. Not pictured was the scallion pancake. Made fresh, not oily, but was too hungry, and started eating it before picture was taken.

I've been back to the restaurant a number of times since my last review and the food is still fantastic. Service is still great too and I've got no complaints! Still definitely worth checking out if you have not done so already.
Great place for authentic Shanghainese food in Long Island. The pork soup dumpling is great. We also ordered the loofah, pork belly with bean curd sheet knot and my mom'a favorite, fish head crystal noodle casserole. Everything is delicious.
The service is very friendly. For Saturday lunch hour, the place got busy fast. And the waiters were still doing their job with a sense of humor even though they were practically flying around to attend to everyone.
Highly recommend!
Food was really tasty. Reasonably priced. Authentic cuisine. Good soup dumplings.
Blue Wave, Hillside Avenue, Williston Park
We had a FABULOUS meal. I was skeptical about some of the online reviews. Everything we got was spectacular! They included:
- Soup Dumplings: the wrapping was almost paper thin yet held up to dining in AND taking out. The pork and soup were so richly flavorful that we have stopped crying about the loss of Joe's Shanghai from Flushing. It is so much better to have Blue Wave's and they are even closer for us Long Islanders.
- Scallion pancakes: so crispy and such great flavor, it didn't even matter that I would have liked more scallions
- Pan Fried Pork Buns: buns are just that, bread with filling, yet so beautifully made, pleated and pinched on top, lightly browned on the bottom, a lovely flavorful meat filling.
NOTE on the dipping sauce for the above. It is more rice wine vinegar than soy sauce, so if it's too tart for you, see if they can give you soy sauce.
- L.2. Shredded Pork and Bamboo Shoots w chili sauce - shockingly great: nice kick, not too hot, great flavor. This is savory not sweet, which is so hard to find in most Asian restaurants, and what I'm always looking for. I was in heaven.
- L.6. Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce - My 2 companions had this sweeter version and loved theirs as much as I loved mine.
Great local place that has authentic Chinese food that you would normally have to travel into queens to get. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. The free soup dumplings as appetizer was excellent.
I am Shanghainese, so I can comment with experience. This place is legit. The eggplant, fish fillet, and soup dumplings are delicious and authentic tasting. I ate way too much...if I lived closer I would come here every week!
If you like Chinese food that is a bit on the salty side, this is the place for you. The food is pretty authentic and select dishes I've had are pretty tasty. One of the most attractive part of this restaurant is that if you order anything more than $11 you get free soup dumplings! Now that is a good deal! I had the braised pork with preserved vegetables and it was delicious and Well Done compared to other Chinese restaurants. The additional cost of $1.50 for brown rice is pretty standard and definitely recommended to go with some of these salty food items this restaurant tends to Produce. This place is perfect if you need lots of sodium and help drinking lot of fluids after a good workout because you are going to be thirsty for the next few hours and allow you to hydrate.lol
The xiao long bao is really good the soup is delicious also the sungin bao/fried pork buns are so good there’s a little soup in it and it’s the best I am coming back!
Authentic Shanghai food in Long Island. Friendly staff. Very reasonable price. Street parking which might be a little difficult.
