Review 800 Maple - Williamsville

Chef tansholpan
My husband and I had a lovely dinner on the Valentine's day at 800 Maple. Host Peter is a super funny, friendly and professional thanks for him a lot! So we ordered pizza and a grilled fish, french fries. The pizza was hot, super thin and dry a bit, pineapple juice was great, we also ordered a champagne, but we didn't know what's the name. The pizza had a bit salty and dry, thin. Although it was tasty. The fish was delicious😋. It was great! It's a small but busy restaurant so you should keep in mind to book a table before you go. Also price was $100. But between "Neat" and "800 Maple" I would give 5 stars to Neat!

I am vegan, the chef did good job preparing my food, my girlfriend had pork she really enjoyed. There is a good atmosphere and we spend wonderful time. But we felt uncomfortable because we were asked so many time if we still working on our food. It felt like they wanted us to finish even my girlfriend was drinking her whisky, and our plates were full with food. I think for such expensive place it is not right manners. That is why I gave 4 stars to the place.

Excellent alternative for special occasion or business dinner. Excellent atmosphere and incredible service. The bar is amazing and has an extensive choices of cocktails. Their Dirty Martini is definitely one of the top 5 I’ve ever had. The food is simply delicious with delicate presentations. The Tuna Tartar is probably one of the best things they offer. Their chicken cutlets are good, but they offer by far better dishes. I was not impressed with their Espresso Martini, but everything else was just FABULOUS! Nice parking lot. 100% recommended.

Great experience this evening at 800 Maple. We were welcome by the host right when we arrived and we're seated at a comfortable table. The cocktails we got were phenomenal and we ended up ordering about six drinks total between the two of us. One of the drinks was a pear flavored martini And the other was a Sicilian mule. We ordered the crispy artichoke hearts and the calamari for appetizers. The calamari was one of the softest calamari I have ordered at a restaurant. The artichark hearts were different than anything I have had but I really enjoyed it. My husband ordered the pork chop which was cooked very well and I ordered the prime strip steak which was very flavorful and cooked properly. We did order the homemade macaroni and cheese. You can also get a version of this that is lobster macaroni and cheese. You definitely can taste that it is homemade and that there are many different cheeses used in this dish. It was very rich but my husband was head over heels for it. The best part of our experience was the dessert. It was a homemade tart with peaches and blueberries with vanilla ice cream on top. It was served warm and You could really taste that homemade flavor. It was kind of like peach cobbler but a hundred times better. I would highly recommend that as a dessert if you visit the establishment. I really would love to come back to this restaurant to try a couple more of their dishes and would highly recommend this restaurant to my close friends and family.

Delicious food. Expansive liquor selection. Very busy, reservations recommended. Pretty long wait for entrees after appetizers.

Wife and I came here for our first time. I ordered the Berkshire pork chop and I’m not huge on them so I was nervous ordering it and it was very good. Atmosphere is terrific, waitresses and waiters and hosts are awesome. Wife loved her filet mignon she ordered. Service to get our wine was slow and we waited a little longer than I like to get our check but I would definitely recommend and I will be back.

800 Maple is a beautiful looking upscale restaurant, that falls a bit short of it's class. I say this because, I expect more from a upscale restaurant. When you look past the beautiful decor, you have to judge a place by their food/drinks. After carefully looking over the menu, my wife and I found it to be lackluster. My wife ended up getting the asparagus salad, and I ordered the roasted chicken. Initially, we did not place an order for a appetizer. But our waiter suggested that we should, just to help pass the time. Because the roasted chicken could take up to 30mins to prepare, so we ordered the truffle fries. While waiting for our food to arrive, our drinks was ready and was brought to us. Tai ordered the Cosmo, and I ordered the Manhattan. We were both disappointed by our drinks, because they both tasted watered down. By now our fries showed up, and the first thing we notice is the fries are lukewarm. We are starting to wonder, if these fries was just sitting under a heat lamp. The main entree's arrive, after about 20-25 mins wait time. I had no problem with that, I felt that was reasonable. Tai like her salad, but grew tired of it after several bites. I had tried some of her salad, and understood why she felt the way she did. You get a strong taste of boiled eggs in the salad, so if your not into boiled eggs. This may not be a salad you would want to try, or just omit the egg when ordering. My roasted chicken was huge, and the skin was nice and crispy. What I didn't care for, was the cognac peppercorn sauce. To me it tasted more like a foie gras sauce, than a peppercorn sauce. My final thoughts of this place would be this, the food is not on a upscale restaurant level. There is nothing exciting, bold or daring about the dishes. I feel this is a neighborhood favorite, that is better than Carrabba's, Scotch and sirloin, and Red lobster. But does not compare, to the upscale restaurants in the downtown Buffalo area.

This is a wonderful setting for romantic dinners or a get-together for good friends. It is elegant without stuffiness. The food is delicious and beautifully plated. Overall, prices are reasonable given large portions. Excellent.

Have never had a bad meal in all the time we've gone to the restaurant. Sunday's short ribs with risotto were delicious and melted in your mouth. Combine that with half price bottles of wine and how can you go wrong. Service was also great and friendly.

Went with my husband for our anniversary. The food was amazing! The staff completed a wonderful experience. Spoke to you like you were the only table they had and the place was packed. They kept apologizing because it was crowded. We expected nothing else in the city on a Thursday night. Would highly recommend!

I will definitely recommend the place to our friends!!!!

Service was fantastic. Our waiter was very helpful with our menu choices. The food was fantastic, very well prepared. We will come back again.

Excellent service, excellent food! We appreciated the staff making meals off-menu for our children also.

Restaurant decor is nice, appetizer was good, pizza was over priced and bland. I now remember why we have it a few years break, time for a repeat.

Always a great experience here. Not a ton of vegetarian options, but I always manage to find something delicious. Friendly staff, good drinks!

The staff is so friendly and love what they do. The chefs in the back really know how to play with your taste buds. They have a great cocktail menu and is amazing bar. I would go back anytime and enjoy one of those wood fired pizzas.
Marco
One of the nicest staffs ever! Everyone said hello and smiled! Great Sweet Corn Chowder and Sacchetti pasta. Great Cast Iron Apple Crisp too! Very Tasty!

Following suit with Siena, this restaurant doesn't disappoint. The atmosphere and staff were excellent. We started with oxtail ragout, tuna with beet yogurt, friend calamari, and scallops and they were cooked perfect. I went on to crispy duck, which I'm a huge fan, but this one was worthy of praise. Perfectly seared and seasoned. My only gripe would be the risotto which I think was too cheesy, even for me. All in all a great place that I would for sure try again.

I have nothing but great things to say about this restaurant. Waiter was top notch and the food presentation and taste was excellent. Stuffed squash blossoms very yummy and the beet salad was fantastic!!!

Excellent Experience. 800 Maple is a terrific dining experience. Our hostess/waitress Devon was devine. Very friendly, courteous, attentive and knowledgeable about the wine & food selections. Highly recommend this restaurant! 5 Stars!
Step Out Buffalo
800 Maple has been serving fine food and a steady stream of regular customers at their Williamsville location for almost 10 years. Chef Charlie Mallia has been doing the heavy lifting since the beginning.

I visit Buffalo a lot for business, and I stay at the courtyard Marriott just down the road. The pizzas used the be very good, but they changed recently. I can't put my finger on it. Needless to say, I'm staying away from this place. Consistency is key, who knows what else isn't consistent.

Very enjoyable!. We visited last night (Friday) for the first time. It had a nice atmosphere and wasn't too crowded. The tables are dressed with black linens and topped with a sheet of paper to catch grease.

The servers were so very attentive all night. We stayed for three hours, and our glasses were continually kept full, we didn't have to ask for a thing! It sounded like the bar was quite happening, though we couldn't really see it from the dining area as there is a dividing wall. There was also live music on the other side.

Now, for the food. Delicious! I had the arugula salad, Hake and cheesecake to finish. Our table shared calamari, tuna and scallops for appetizers. Presentation was delightful and the dressing added such a special dimension for flavor. I couldn't gave asked for more, we were all very pleased. We were treated splendidly.

In preparation for visiting, I checked online reviews and saw some less than stellar reviews. I find it laughable that they give a lower score because of the price. Perhaps they are not accustomed to treating themselves. Why should that diminish a review?! Please do know, it is not a cheap place, yet neither is the experience.

Host was an absolute jerk. Had 8 pm reservation. Was not seated by 930 so ate at the bar. Bartender Joel was awesome.

It is very pricey for the poor quality of food served. There was 5 of us that went and the salad was the part we could eat. Lobster Mac was hard and to week cooked, truffle fries looked like they came from McDonald's with parsley on top. Could not find the oil. And the fish and steak was skimpy for the price they charged. Not impressed

Fine if you have money to throw away. A family member gave us a gift certificate to 800 Maple and we decided to use it on our wedding anniversary, which fell on a Wednesday this year. Since we live in the Southtowns, we had never been to this restaurant so I looked up the menu online ahead of time--and was immediately stuck by the high prices and limited selection. However, the pizza sounded interesting, so we still decided to go. After we were seated, a waiter came over and "offered" us bottled water for our meal. The water glasses were not filled with tap water so we assumed that this was the way water was normally served at 800 Maple. There was no mention of an extra charge ($6 for each bottle of water, and we had two) either from the waiter or on the menu--what a rip off! In addition to the $12 for lukewarm bottled water, the waitress who rang us up also charged us for coffee we never ordered. She seemed annoyed that we ordered only entrees with no alcohol (we are non-drinkers), appetizers, or salad. (We did order dessert.) The atmosphere was pleasant and the food was good, but an equivalent meal could have been purchased elsewhere for a fraction of the tab at 800 Maple. When I commented on the unexpected charge for the water, the waitress just said "Oh" and went on her way--no apology or offer of a partial adjustment. We will not return to this establishment. There are other high quality but more reasonably priced options much closer to home. (P.S. I do not normally write negative online reviews. However, I was so disturbed by the arrogant and affected attitude of the staff at 800 Maple that I decided to do so.)

Don't need the rude attitude. Had dinner there last night. We had a party of six. Had drinks in the bar while we waited for a table. When our table was ready we brought our drinks with us. The waitress (I wish I knew her name but she was a middle aged shorter brunette haired woman) immediately had an unfriendly attitude which seemed to start with the fact that we had drinks already. Her attitude deteriorated further when only one person ordered a salad and no appetizers. Everyone ordered an entree, ranging from pizza at $14.50 to salmon at $32. We could see our waitress being animated at other tables but with us she could hardly be bothered to even utter a response when we asked for anything. When our check arrived it was $130.xx. Apparently my use of gift cards really annoyed "Ms. Rudeness". I put my two gift cards totaling $120.00 and $11 more dollars in the check holder. On the other side of the check holder I put another $21 for the tip. The tip was 17.5 %, which she didn't nearly deserve. She took the check holder and walked away. As we got up to leave, she came over and asked loudly and rudely, "Sir, what am I supposed to do with this? You have money on this side and money on this side". I had to explain to "Ms. Rudeness" that the two gift cards totaled $120 and that the additional $11 covered the bill of $130.xx and that the other $21 was her tip. She then responded, "Oh, I didn't see the other $20 gift card" and walked away. No apology for her rude behavior. Apparently, "Ms. Rudeness" was unhappy that the bill at a six seat table was only $130. I would have complained on the way out but there was no one at the host/hostess station by the door as we left and we just wanted to get away from the attitude and go have after dinner drinks somewhere else. So we did go down the street to McGregors (which was very nice, by the way). Needless to say we won't ever go back to 800 Maple. Don't need the attitude.
Eating Through Buffalo
Suburb Restaurant with City Feel. Only ever been here for happy hour drinks with coworkers. Dined for the first time last Friday night and was impressed. The restaurant was packed on the bar side and every table was full. Couldn't even find a parking spot. People dining at the bar and the tables in that area besides the restaurant. They had entertainment during dinner and it was nice hearing a piano player instead of typical music or restaurant chatter. Everything we ordered was very good and our server was tentative with out being around too much and knew what he was doing. Diners got the linguine with clams, chicken milanese, soup of the day, and 3 different salads. Meals came out hot, were decent size portions and for a busy weekend night we didn't wait too long for any of the courses. Only complaint is the restaurant was very hot inside due to the wood fire pizza oven we were seated next to.

Great gift. Just received a gift certificate to one of my favorite restaurants- 800 maple. each time we go (every month or so)
we always enjoy the food. the best calamari in town!

Service good food good enough. But not good enough for the price you pay. Way overpriced nothing for kids. Much better places around. Pizza is good though. All around an nice place. Atmosphere is ok a little crammed, service was nice and food was ok just not worth what you pay

I went to 800 maple this past sat for my birthday. As I walked in I was greeted by the hostess who was very friendly. We went to the bar for a drink while we waited for our table. The bartenders were outgoing and helpful. I had a 800 Cosmo that was delicious. The atmosphere and engery of the resturant makes me wanna come back. Our server was knowledgeable and outgoing. They provided us with there nightly specials and a few dinners. Our food was amazing starting with apps and finishing with dessert. The spinach salad was awesome. The food came out in a timely manner. My fliet was cooked perfect. The service was excellent. I never had an empty drink. All in all a great experience and I will
Be back again!!!

It was wonderful!! Great drinks, appetizers were delicious. Filet was mouthwatering so tender, juicy and very well seasoned! The service was fantastic! I believe his name was josh and he did a superb job! I have no idea why they have mixed reviews?!!

Why all the haters?. It kills me that 99% of the people who come on these kind of websites only do it bash restaurants. I read a few reviews on this place after I had been there a handfull of times. Not really sure where they're coming from!! I've been there on a jam-packed Friday night, a slow Sunday and a busier than average Thursday night and I've always received great service and amazing food! I highly reccomend this place! They're doing something right if they own 4 restaurants in the area! Keep up the good work 800 Maple

Great Time Great Food. Last night our dinner group went to 800 Maple. The place was busy lots of action, the bar just takes you right in its one of the nicest bars I have ever seen. The staff is professional and very friendly. We all tried different things and shared. There menu is new with so much to choose from it was hard to decide what to order. A few of us had fish, my husband had a steak and one person had there famous chicken. I must tell you one thing was better than the next. The appetizers were fantastic great calamari, pizza, clams and short ribs were to die for.We passed on dessert to full, great food, great service and just a great time, its on our regular list from now on.....

Looking for a good meal? Go somewhere else. I'd pick McDonald's over this overpriced slop. Very pretentious staff & overall are trying too hard to be something more. Service was subpar, food was awful. The wait on a Wednesday night was ridiculous. The pizza was served to us lukewarm, as if it was sitting around & reheated. The pasta was mushy & sauce had no taste. You'd get a better meal off the dollar menu at McDonalds. Newsflash: your restaurant is located on Maple Rd in Williamsville, not NYC. Get over yourself. I would not return here, nor recommend to anyone.
Carlos
Very poor service. So in what kind of place they remove the entree plates as soon as each person finishes, leaving one person to finish dinner while the rest of the table is empty?? TGI Fridays? Olive Garden? No...it is 800 Maple, where you also get fish with a side order of cold couscous all stuck as it came out of the tupperware ("be careful the plate is hot "....really??? how about the food in it?). Fine dinning prices, Denny's service.

Sports Areana or Restaurant?. After the first profound disappointment dining at 800 Maple Restaurant, I decided to give it another try. Perhaps the cook was in depression when I ate there the last time, or was simply out of sorts. And so, on Friday, October 14, I took my cousin and his lady friend in an attempt to reward them for helping me put together a complicated wood cabinet. The reward turned out to be a punishment, a very costly one at that.

First of all, let me mention the excellent staff--servers, host, etc.; they are an intelligent, skillful and terribly friendly group. Then too, after excellent, rather exotic panoply of breads and a dip, one expects something quite wonderful. Instead, the entrees were all substandard. The rack of lamb my cousin suffered through was fatty and over-cooked; my sirloin filet turned out to be tough, the kind of meat one would expect at cut-rate eatery, but not in a so-called "up-scale" restaurant. The lovely lady who dined with us ordered the special, a fish dish. It arrived cold. It was late; the server, by the name of Rob, was excellent. We were hungry and tired, and so we began to eat without complaint.

Soon after we began there was a blast of saxophone which--if the fish weren't already morbidly cold, would have caused it to swim away. If it was good jazz, the kind one might listen to, even downing a chuck of lobster and a filet mignon, I suppose it would have been acceptable. It wasn't.

Finally, the owner of this dismal place was interviewed. He made an interesting comment, something to the effect that with sports TVs and an atmosphere that is pleasant, the food is not the most important element at his 800 Maple. Now there's a "confession" you can believe.

I recently visited 800 Maple for the first time on a very busy Friday and I didn't have a reservation. The Manager at the door explained that it might be around a half hour or so, but that he'd get me in. So my friend and I decided to stick around and have a drink at the bar. We're VERY glad we did!! The bar staff was great despite being very busy. Next thing we knew, the manager was there to let us know our table was ready. He took us to our table and our faboulous meal began there!! We started with an appetizer, lobster fritters, had a salad each (800 salad) and each had the best entree's of our lives! I can't wait to go back there!! I made reservation on my way out and was more than impressed to see that the manager was there asking how my experience was on my way out! Thanks 800 Maple!! I will make sure to tell all my friends and family about my trip there!! See you soon!!

This restaurant isn't what it used to be...plain and simple...long wait with a rude host and manager is what sticks out to me most

Management is Rude. I saw the Manager of this establishment out at another local restaurant. I frequent this pricey, crappy food restaurant frequently because my husband knows the bartender. But, after being told I was "insignificant" by the Manager while out at another bar I will no longer step foot in this place again. Their food is terrible, their management is terrible and their attitude is terrible.

Horrible service; from the rude bartender to the incapable server. Went once, will never go back. There are too many other options.

My family and I ate @ 800 the Wednesday before Xmas. The place was packed. The banana peppers were hot and garlicy and the Caesar Salad with the lemon squeeze was wonderful. We ordered 3 pizzas. Which was the reason we came. They were outstanding. I have eaten here, Siena and Oliver's many times and honestly the Chef @ this restaurant is probably the best in the city. There are bigger names. Charlie's great without having to say he's great.

Unethical and Lousy Service. My fiance and I went there last night during Restaurant Week 2010. We had made reservations and had clearly stated that we were there for the Restaurant Week specials.

When we arrived at 5:15, there was a notice at the entrance saying that they were not going to have their Restaurant Week specials--we'd have to order from their regular, expensive menu. They didn't tell us that when we made reservations nor did they tell post this on the Restaurant Week website or their own website.

Since we were there, we decided to proceed. The restaurant was empty except for 2 couples and ourselves. For whatever reasons, they sat us at the worst table in the restaurant--in a dark corner by the kitchen. I asked if we could have another table--and there were plenty of them available--but my request was denied.

With that, we left the restaurant and went to a far better one (Cozumel) that honored Restaurant Week prices, and provided us with a far better table, service, lots of food and a free appetizer.

800 Maple thinks way too highly of itself at the patron's expense. Go somewhere else like we did!

The good - food was out of sight! Our waiter Ron was as efficient and professional as you can be. The bad - price a little high, but you get what pay for. I would definitely recommend!

Never thought we would be served. 1-1/4 hours after ordering drinks and giving our order I asked the waiter when we might see our first course, he said there was a large order ahead of ours and we waited 30 minutes more, the host said if we didn't like it we should leave. Never going back, bad service, bad attitude, overpriced.

Good Food But Overpriced. Went despite hearing about the questionable prices (per BuffaloChow). The wood-fired pizza I sampled (the flank steak, spinach, and asiago combo called 'The Alexa') was very good. The crust is cracker-thin but not charred as was expect, while the asiago was nutty, pungent, and complimented the sweetness of the vegetables. The crust was brushed with a very flavorful and high quality olive oil. Makes a good first course for a group of 3-4. As for my main course, I actually went with a special 'small plate.' The Seared Ahi Tuna I ordered was pricey at $14 and the portion (perhaps 4 oz) was small, but the peppercorn crust was perfect while the rare inside was cool and meaty. It came with a brillient soy-wasabi reduction and pickled ginger salad, as well as two very small garnishes of caviar. Very well composed and incredibly flavorful as a dish, but again, very pricey. I enjoyed the food and was able to overlook the prices, but what bothered me the most was our waitress, who hovered quite a bit yet never brought our table of four a bread basket. With such expensive meals, a nice basket of wood fired bread should be in order, and overlooking this aspect of service was a huge turn-off for me.

Prepare to dish $$$. Food was Ok. Service was blah. I do believe that the menu items are over priced. The total for dinner I had with three people were around $300 (not including gratuity). Hmm..I'd rather spend that amount elsewhere.

The food was great best pasta I've had in buffalo and the service is great so are priece great!!!!

Food was pretty good but $125 for 3 people was extremely high for a eatery in Western New York. I can find dinner just as good for half the price through out the area and that's what I plan to do.

"If taste and value are bigger concerns, there are better places to get wood-fired pizzas and the same items, even if they're not always as attractively presented as these."
