Reviews Mizu Japanese

There are very few truly high-level Japanese restaurants in the twin cities and this is one of them. There are some unique offerings on the menu and if you’re like me you appreciate being able to get real, fresh wasabi. Whenever I check out a highly recommended sushi spot I always order the sashimi, their take on a standard roll (in this case the california) and typically one of their signature plates or rolls. I brought my 7 yr old with me and so I didn’t go for a signature plate / roll as it would’ve been too much food. The quality of the sashimi here is top notch (salmon, bigeye tuna, sea bream, sea bass, and yellowtail) were in my chefs selection - the portions in some cases were a little light, but understandably so given the type of fish and the quality of the fish. The California roll was rather generously portioned and was made with real blue crab which was excellent. The pickeled ginger accompanying the food is fresh and of excellent quality. The drink menu is great as well; I ordered a suntory time old fashioned and my kiddo had a Ramune grape Soda (they have a number of these, they are not listed on the menu). I’m an old fashioned snob - it’s an easy drink to make, but it’s also easy to make one poorly. Thankfully, they make a great old fashioned. The only real knock on this place is that it is priced in the top-tier of restaurants of its type, our meal was over $100 with tax and tip. I hope the price allows the quality to stay high and I hope that this place sticks around for a long time, it’s a real winner and worth making an out-of-the-way drive for anyone that isn’t a local.

We lived in Japan for four years and while that does not make us experts, we do have a discerning palate for good sushi and folks, this is it! The exquisite taste and skills of head chef Jordan combined with a delightful and attentive staff make this an award winning spot. We will be regulars! PS: there are gorgeous menu options for those in your party not into sushi and they are equally delicious.

Some of the best sushi I have ever had. The setting of the restaurant on White Bear Lake is amazing. The staff was very knowledgeable and professional. Loved every thing about it! The Old Fashioned is a must try as well.

Had an amazing experience dining on only the second day that Mizu has been open. Bar staff was welcoming and attentive, cocktails were perfect and the Wagyu Tataki was to die for. Sushi right on the lake, a perfect venue. Highly recommend.

Great friendly staff. Delicious food. Sat at the bar with my Thai foreign exchange student and enjoyed conversation with the staff. Close to home, will definitely go again.

My expectations couldn't have been higher. I've been a long time Acqua fan and a huge fan of Jordan's work and Red Lantern. Darren and Nicole have the Midas touch. That said, it's been a while (~ 2 years) since I've had an exceptional meal in the area. This hit the mark on nearly all levels. Easily the best Miso I've ever had ... by miles. The Lake of the Lake roll and Red Platinum roll were mind blowing palate explosions. Tuna and yellowtail like sweet cream butter. The atmosphere a perfect mix of energy and the ability to converse with my wife. A great date.

A great experience from start to finish. Wes, our waiter, was very attentive and enthusiastic. With his move from Red Lantern, Chef Jordan is better than ever. Ask him to create a menu for you, you won't go wrong. The Old Fashioned is fantastic. One has to follow up with Sake, preferably, Black River, to have a true Japanese meal. If you don't finish your bottle, Mizu will store it for your next meal there. An outstanding time on the lake.

What a fabulous gem of a place MIZU is! It was recently opened in July and we're pretty happy to have an amazing sushi restaurant so near us. We ordered a LOT of different items and each one was better than the last and the sushi was very fresh. The service was top notch and we can't wait to go back.

Mizu is located across white bear harbor the owners also own bar next door The atmosphere is modern and elegant They have nice patio to enjoy your food and drinks My favorite drink was the Koi which uses Cachasa I am sure this is not how you pronounce it but regardless is the same liquor in Caipirinha so it tastes just like one with some Japanese twist Also do highly recommend the sampler platter which has oyster 🦪 with caviar , otoro , Wagyu A5 and Uni or sea urchin spoon with ponzu sauce extremely delicious 🤤. The plum wine was beautiful and delicious , I do believe a full meal will drinks for 2 will run you you at least $200 But def worth it

Really quality fish for its price! Good service although they did forget our sushi rolls and it wasn’t busy. Overall, I would recommend this place! Definitely coming here again!

Spectacular food only exceeded by the service of its staff. After arriving in the hour prior to close I thought it best to order to go. When I had mentioned that I was very hungry, Tonya asked if I’d like to sit and enjoy my food in house well after placing my order. I said that they close in a few minutes and I was assured that it was fine. Even pointed out that the house was full as that as long as guests were arriving, they would stay open. As a manager I cannot express enough how much I loved to hear that. It’s small moments like that, that make a difference in the service industry. Excellent atmosphere, fantastic food, amazing service.

Very clean, high-end sushi spot in White Bear Lake. Rivals others for quality and presentation. Great selection of Japanese whiskeys, highly recommend the whiskey flight for those wanting to try a variety of options. Hamachi is a must try appetizer that will wow any guest. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable in the event of rapid-fire questions you may have. I don't quite know how to summarize their menu other than to say it is extensive yet condensed. 100% will be back to try other items on their menu!

The food was excellent! By far the best fried rice I have ever had. The scallop appetizer was so good I was tempted to order another. The wait staff were top notch. The kitchen however was terribly slow. Management offset that on the bill which I found only fitting. Had it not been for the issue with the kitchen I would have gladly given 5 stars.

wow this place was the BEST japanese in all of Minnesota and ive been to almost all the places in the twin cities. The sushi was fantastic and reasonably priced. The California roll uses REAL CRAB! The seafood ramen came with scallops and was 20 with like tons of shrimp it was delicious. The staff was top notch super friendly. We went here for our 6 year anniversary 1st time visitors but where treated like their best regulars. It was probably the best dinning experience I've ever had and will be making this place a monthly stop and recommend to everyone I know.
