Review Lucques - West Hollywood

We had a wonderful time there last Friday. Their outdoor space must be designed for such beautiful early autumn afternoon and after 2PM we had the luxury of having the whole space to ourselves. Our hostess was a very pleasant and attentive lady and overall the service was impeccable. Detail tells everything: the soup was divided for two of us before being served. More tribute should be paid to the food. This place excels in baking - how am I going to describe the amazing texture of the bread and pastries! The soft crab BLT really really impressed me. You can easily cut through this giant thing in front of you with a knife. The two slices of loaf were so crispy as well as light and soft - to the point that I'd like to conceive them as pieces of crispy cloud… And the soft crab, tinted with the smoky flavor of the bacon, was itself very delicious. At the same time, we pretty much enjoyed the sweet corn soup (which had an interestingly complex taste), the ricotta dumplings, and the stonefruit galette. After all, we agreed with our hostess: "everything on the menu is good."

In town just one night, I took a chance and headed to Lucques at five pm just as they were opening, hoping to grab a quick dinner without a reservation. As luck would have it, the restaurant was actually closed for a private tasting dinner with two guest chefs, but the staff graciously invited me to stay and found me a seat at a quiet table. The price tag for the prixe fix meal was $150 and well worth every penny. Just over $200 including one drink and the tip, I absolutely enjoyed every mouthful prepared by chef Suzanne Goins and the two guest chefs. From wood fired pizza to grilled veggies, seared fish to duck, the meal was amazing. The melon panna cotta for dessert was the perfect ending to a really outstanding meal. The restaurant is gorgeous, the staff professional and accommodating. Just be aware that the valet parking is cash only or you will need to go back inside and outside with a credit card. I would absolutely go back to Lucques the next time I'm in town.

Scottish night - what fun! Obviously this is a fav restaurant for many people with means. This was a special treat outing for us and it was a treat. It was a Sunday night and a prix fixe menu with a Scottish theme. We were greeted by a friendly wait staff, there was a bagpipe player, a lively group celebrating a birthday in the bar, and a simple yet elegant dining room. We decided to put our dinner in the hands of the chef. We ate things we wouldn't normally choose and enjoyed every minute of it. From fish soup to haggis, (a modified version from the traditional recipe) we loved every bite and every dish went back clean. The wine pairings were lovely and unique (I know nothing about wine except for what I like and don't.) The sommelier was knowledgeable and friendly, sharing tidbits that were interesting and fun, despite my lack of viticultural expertise. All in all it was a great night. It was a splurge, mostly funded as a gift from my parents, but an experience that will be remembered as delightful. I highly recommend!

This is the second time I’ve tried it. I’ve given it the varsity effort but it’s been misses both times. Normally I wouldn’t complain but the service kept stumbling. Decor is good. Music is good. Food is just decent. Service stumbled, like I said.

An LA classic! Lucques is a cornerstone of the LA food scene. You simply will not find more perfectly balanced plates of fresh seasonal dishes than at Lucques. Everything here is perfect from the fresh baked sour dough with cultured butter and fleur de sel that they serve when you sit down to the French inspired pastries like the cherry and chocolate marjolaine at dessert and everything in between. I could go on and on but really you just have to try it, I guarantee you won't regret it.

I visited Lucques during the most recent round of dineLA. It's considered a must-try classic Angeleno institution, famous for Sunday suppers, owned by a James Beard Outstanding Chef winner and renowned cookbook author. Lucques is categorized as California-Mediterranean. I would describe it as Californian-cuisine focused with a pan-Mediterranean flair (French flavor leaning). Our meal began with toasted almonds and giant oblong green olives, served along with sourdough bread, butter, and French sea salt. The highlights were the crunchy almonds and the crusty sourdough. We ate all off the bread, which doesn't happen very often. Moving on, I shared a Barbara's Greens salad with my girlfriend. The waitress allowed a split order for this dish. The salad was simple, direct, fresh, and seemed to emphasize the use of seasonal local ingredients. The elements were leafy, crunchy, and creamy in texture. I thought that the beet puree was brilliant and blended well with the nutty pistachios and pomegranate seeds. It would have also paired well with goat cheese. Although the thin crostini topped with tangy labneh didn't quite fit in with the salad flavor-wise, this pair tasted good on its own. For the main course, I had the Portuguese-inspired stuffed chicken and I ate a few bites of the pan roasted lingcod. The Portuguese chicken was obviously the more entertaining dish, consisting of a Portuguese cured pork sausage stuffing enclosed in a small bone-in chicken with skin attached. The chicken was accompanied with sweet raisins and a tomato rice that's somewhat soupy. One thing that bothered me - the chicken was glazed with a thick sauce that's as sweet as yams. I personally prefer a spicy and smoky BBQ flavor profile more for the chicken to pair with the savory stuffing. But otherwise, this dish especially the sausages was scrumptious. Meanwhile, the lingcod was the more sophisticated dish. In my head, I imagined a heavy casserole of white fish baked together with a lot of cheese and potato gratin. Lucques had something else in mind, pan roasting the buttery fish and then layering it with tomatoes and perfectly cooked salt cod-potato gratin that had a silky, evenly distributed texture, all situated in olive oil and a very light tomato confit. It tasted like a creative homecooked dish. For dessert, I went with the apple galette that the waitress highly recommended, but ended up liking the meyer lemon semifreddo more. The fragrance of the meyer lemon stood out. It was bright but not overwhelming. The dessert had the brittle nuts and flaky crust necessary to match the sweet/acidic flavor profile. For the apple tart à la mode, I enjoyed the crust and the accompanying nuts the most. The Armagnac prunes were somewhat syrupy sweet and rich, apparently Armagnac is a French brandy. I thought that Lucques did a solid job putting together Californian comfort dishes using seasonal ingredients. But food is not the primary aspect that motivates me to return to Lucques, it's the excellent service, personal touch, and comfortable warm ambiance that made an impression on me. I came to celebrate a birthday and everything was executed smoothly. I'd like to revisit Lucques for their Sunday Supper in the future.

The atmosphere was wonderful and warm, the staff were very knowledgeable about the menu (it was a pre fixed menu for Oktoberfest) and also very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious and hearty, not to mention the portions were huge. The only complaint I had was that the beer didn't come with a big enough head.

I had high expectations coming in based on press and other reviews, and was not disappointed. We started with the ricotta dumplings and the prosciutto/figs/melons, which were delicious. We also loved the short ribs, though I didn't love the flavor combinations used in the CA sea bass special. All in all, though, it was a great experience - the wine list was extensive without being overwhelming, and the service spot-on.

Fantastic food, very tasty, the bread with butter was amazing I almost ate 2 portions. Food is fresh, and gourmet, definitely a perfect place for a date or a celebration. You might even see some really really famous people sitting next to you... As it happened to us... Was fantastic highly recommended... But be aware this place is top prices.... As in bring a lot of cash ✨

Came here for their Sunday supper special - $45 prefixed menu. It was well worth the price. The chicken entree I ordered was very juicy and flavorful and the portion was surprisingly sufficient for my huge appetite. The biggest surprise of the meal was the pea salad. Who would've thought a plate of plain looking green peas could be so tasty! Great beer selection as well.

We always love this place for date night. Chill environment, neighborhood feel, friendly service and fantastic food.

Celebrated my wife's birthday here and had a great time. Everything we ordered were delicious but particularly the short ribs were so tender and juicy that it is a must-get. Awesome desserts too!

The food has been exceptional on every of my several visits. It's basic food - meat and vegetables - but wow everything delivers. The service is attentive but not bothersome. My one disappointment was going on a Sunday, making a reservation for six, and not being told that it was a fixed menu on Sundays. The reservationist really should mention that for Sundays.

Always great. Especially love the $52 Sunday fixed price three course meals. Check out the menu each weekend online. Great service. Great wine list. Parking valet is $8.50 each. Consistently great food.

Simply remarkable. Started by the amazing service and great chic yet casual atmosphere. The wine selection is impressive and the food outstanding. Fir appetizers we had the Squash salad and the scallops, for main course the Black Cod which for sure is the best I ever have

Joined the crew at Lucques for Sunday Supper - Book Club - we celebrated creole style with beautifully executed food and hot hot jazz - the Sazerac divine and our french server impeccable and fun - I never miss at Luques

They have a real uppity attitude here . Half of our party arrived on time and the other half was a few minutes late . The hostess informed us that we had two hours and would then be required to leave as the next party had a reservation . She also said she was clocking us in on Open table and if we had too many lateness it is they wouldn't make a reservation for months . So the food was good, service was OK . But we've been to some pretty impressive restaurants through the years and never been treated like this ! In fact most places refuse to kick out a party that is not leaving when they think they should. So if you'd like some attitude with your food come here !

Loved it. The food was amazing, unfortunately we all ordered the short ribs, so wasn't able to try any of the other entrees. Good crafted cocktails and nice wine list.

Outstanding food and service. The place to meet the Hollywood cliterati.

We had a wonderfully relaxing evening of snacks and drinks. The bartender (we sat at the bar) was a truly artistic mixer. We enjoyed light dialog and fantastic drinks! Easy location with parking. If you are looking for a good meal that isn't overpriced, come here.

Excellent, fresh food, attentive service. Use Valet, don't park in the neighborhood in the back of restaurant at night, meter maid active in the evening too lol

We were in town from Wisconsin on (my) business, leaving my husband with the baby during an unpredictable schedule. At the last minute, I called in to Lucques, unsure if we could get a table, let alone bring a seven-month-old baby. The staff could not have been more welcoming. The host was warm and friendly on the phone, talking about his own baby and Wisconsin background. The kitchen had no problem preparing a small dish of roasted root vegetables for our daughter to try. At least four staff members stopped by the table to chat with us and the baby in spare moments. And the food, of course... the food was wonderful. My husband had the chicken saltimbocca, which made him say that "chicken that's not this juicy is why it gets a bad rap." I had the ricotta dumplings, which were unlike anything I'd eaten before and popped with flavor. From the moment we walked in and saw the fireplace and waiting area, we knew we had made a great choice during an otherwise hectic week. We really needed an experience like this, and we've already told people about it. ("That was the best meal we had all week," says my husband... and we went to some pretty good places.) Thanks so much to all of the staff, especially the host.

Great service, friendly staff. Recommend the duck and San Fran beer.

One of my favorite restaurants in L.A. Service is amazing, decor is simple and elegant, and the food is the best part. I suggest the short ribs!
Linda Marchman
Amazing food and friendly knowledgeable servers and staff.

The meal was good and the service was good but slow. It took about 15 mins from the time we sat down to get our dinner order in and more than 30 minutes before the food came out. That's a bit too long and the restaurant wasn't very busy so it was difficult to understand why it would have been so slow. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.
