We loved the spicy food here! Not bland like many places! Interesting owner, very sweet. Will come back!

I had never had Ethiopian food before. These guys made it a fun experience, teaching me how to eat it without Western cutlery. Food is good and reasonably priced; staff is friendly. Great place!

Great authentic Ethiopian food and wonderful service! Fish and veggies were fresh, well seasoned, and delicious. Bartender was attentive and very nice and drinks were mixed well. Loved it!

Some of my friends from Peace Corps recommended this place last year and it is amazing! I spent a couple years living in northern Ethiopia, and Asmara has definitely become my go-to spot for an authentic habesha experience in DC. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, and drinks are cheap too. The service is very attentive and the owner, Mary, is so friendly and always makes sure my friends and I have a great time.

The food here was delicious, especially the Awaze Tibs! And during happy hour, beers are only $3. The service was great—they checked up on us a lot and even brought us free shots of an Eritrean liquor at the end of our meal. I will definitely go back!

The atmosphere is a bit gritty but that's part of the experience. The food was fantastic!!! Great service and the other patrons were also great. It had a communal feel that I rarely find in DC. Loved it.

D.C. has many great Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurants, and what makes Asmara stand out is the service. I've been here twice, and could not have felt more at home. They have a great happy hour, and the food is inexpensive, delicious, and filling! I'd recommend the Awaze Tibs and Veg Platter as a combo. More than enough food for 3-4 people... They also do a great job with larger groups. This is a gem of a restaurant, and I will definitely be going back soon!

Generous portions, and perfectly balanced flavors and spices. Amazing service! Without a doubt, the best Ethiopian food I've had in a decade.

Friendly service, moderate prices, and great food. I will say that while the wine was inexpensive, it was pretty low quality. But I would absolutely go back anytime I am in DC (and happily drink beer with my meal here 😉)

Awash has some of the best Ethiopian food around. The meat or the veggie platter easily feeds 2, and the cuisine is exquisite. It also doesn't kill your wallet, either. Staff is very friendly, place is very clean.

Solid Eritrean place! We had a great vegie platter and excellent meat like beef with okra and really good doro wat. I recommend it as a place to visit in AdMo. We had initially wanted to go to Zennebec but could not handle the 45 min wait.

Asmara Restaurant is the best! I lived in northern Ethiopia for two years and this is now one of my favorite Eritrean/Ethiopian restaurants in DC. The food is authentic and well priced and the service is amazing.
