Great neighborhood restaurant on a quiet street. Large outdoor area where you can sip, eat, and enjoy your friends. Staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is cozy like your living room. The fried fish and chicken is about the best in the city. Both crispy and hot.Not greasy. The cabbage was pretty good too. Good soul food!

The food is very delicious! The owner was very friendly. It got quite busy and for a while only one lady was serving and she was doing her absolute best. But it meant you had to wait for things. But other than that, I enjoyed the restaurant. I would visit again!

On a quiet street across from the Lincoln Cottage, it was an easy choice and wonderful experience after our tour. Since it was a chill day, we were inside but that allowed us to spy other's choices. I got the Lamb chop appetizer, which came perfectly cooked and was delicious. My pals had the HP burger and Mango Curry rice bowl. All good. It was only when we saw other tables getting the light golden fried chicken with sides that we thought we missed the real specialty. The new chef is from Guyana, so there's a nice Caribbean twist to the soul food here. Gotta go back.

Hitching Post: The catfish was the bomb! The fish was sooo fresh and crispy, the macaroni was ok. I think It could’ve been baked a little longer or was just missing something. The fries we ordered were crispy but they didn’t match the level of goodness the fish possessed. I literally raved over the fish and ambiance of the space. It reminds me of a mom and pop. It’s pretty intimate and wasn’t super busy that day. There was a bar that I would like to try next time I visit.
Also, I was so grateful that the Guyanese host offered to inform me on the Little Guyana night which I know my family would love. They supposedly offer Guyanese dishes that night which intrigues me. They weren’t overpriced. The food we got, we shared, and it fed the both of us for about $22.

Crispy and delicious fried chicken... sides were great but no candied yams😔. Daughter had catfish. She said it was ok, so I liked the chicken more than she liked the fish.

I visited The Hitching Post for dinner and enjoyed the fried chicken dinner! The rum punch and fried pickles were delicious additions to the meal. The staff was friendly, and the patio made for a nice spot to take in the weather. I'm looking forward to returning!
PS Get the cornbread

My family went to the Hitching Post last week for the 1st time for a celebration dinner and we are really impressed with the restaurant! The meals were all fresh, tasty and the service was great! It had a cool vibe and comfortable inside seating. The hostess was very welcoming, our waiter was very personable and knowledgable, we are looking forward to coming back!

We luved the ambience! The food was GREAT! The portions are generous, the Rum Punch was new and really good. We were having such a good time we got a little loud but the staff and other patrons joined us. Will definitely go back!

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Fresh, delicious food and very friendly service. Table for two, we ordered the fried spinach, neck bones and beans, and a four piece fried chicken with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. Add corn bread! The chicken and the spinach were OFF THE CHART. You gotta try this place.

I was in need of some vegetables to fulfill my daily intake. It was almost 8:30 on a Sunday night. I was nearly 20 minutes away from places I searched, including Hitching Post. I looked at the menu and saw steamed broccoli. This wS all I needed to hustle slowly (📷 lol) across town. When I arrived, I called in a side order of collard greens and steamed broccoli, as I looked for parking. I entered the establishment and was personally greeted but a pleasant woman.
Well to the main point, the food. The broccoli was perfect; not too soft/hard. There appeared to be a light sprinkle of red, and it seemed as if I tasted a hint of butter. I don’t know. I just know the broccoli held most of its clean original flavor. On the other hand, the collards were seasoned. I was so glad it didn’t seem to have the red pepper buds. Some people think that’s what everyone wants on their greens. Well Sunday’s night batch of collards did not. The seasoning was not overpowering and flavorful.
I look forward to visiting this restaurant again to explore the menu.

Enjoyed our dinner here on the outside porch. It's very tight seating and everyone seemed to want to sit outside on this particular evening. The porch furniture needs a little attention (my chair rocked because the legs were lopsided). There were cobwebs around the ceiling and railings which should definitely be cleaned when outside seating is offered and so popular.
Good food choices at reasonable prices.
The server was very kind, and helpful in making suggestions.
The fried pickles, a must have. Yummmm.
The fried chicken was worth the 20-30 minute ( which they inform you about on the menu) wait.
The fried fresh was delicious along with the sides (steamed cabbage, potato salad, cornbread, & collard greens). The Mac-n- cheese was just ok, it wasn't the 'real' baked kind which was disappointing.
I would visit again.

Nice little cozy spot. Wait staff/mgr are very friendly. Ribs were delicious "fall off the bone".The calamari tasty and crunchy, not rubbery. Crabcakes were ok...l like more "lump".

Went to The Hitching Post with one of my girlfriends this evening. This was my first time there. The food and drinks was amazing. I will be back. I had the pork chop dinner.

Listen to me! .......Please...if you are looking for hot, fresh, well seasoned food, decent portion sizes, attentive and polite staff and great atmosphere, then you must go to the Hitching Post. You will not be disappointed.
My mom, daughter and I were in DC for the day, we wanted some good soul food...and our expectations were exceeded to the umpth degree,
The catfish was delicious (in my Tommy Davidson -Martin show voice). Nothing was over seasoned or too salty, the fish was fried to perfection, mac and cheese was flavorful and rich, the greens were succulent. We cleaned our plates!
My only criticism would be, if I can even truly call it that is, they do not have yams on the menu. In my humble opinion, yams are the quintessential component of soul food. Please add yams to the menu!
Anytime I'm back in DC, this will be my spot!
