The Italian sub was a great price under $7 and it was delicious. I got my bread toasted with Italian seasoning and a pretty much everything on it.
It was very filling and a perfect lunch meal for me on the go. It was a bit of a wait but we’ll worth it a lot of people come here.
Epic sandwiches and immaculate vibes. You will leave with a fully belly, warm heart, and a big smile GUARANTEED! Prices won’t break your bank either.
I prefer to call in orders but do order it in the store if you have 10ish mins to spare…you’ll love every single minute you spend in this cute store.
This gem is nestled between some of the warehouses and wholesale stores near union market…I had NO IDEA I was in for such a treat! You go all the way to the back to find the deli…that was literally the best Italian sub I have ever had! 10/10 highly recommend!
Great place for fresh pasta, meats, and sandwiches, among many other things. Subs are delicious and a great price!
Best place in DC to buy Wine! Very knowledgeable staff.
Authentic Italian. The owner and staff are all lovable. Try the Litteri classic hoagie with the house recommendations . It’s worth the trip regardless of where you’re coming from in the world. And I suggest picking up a bag of the dill potato pickle chips behind the counter on your way out.

*This is a must stop shop if you visit the Union Market area.* Impressive Italian market, Deli, and wine shop! James behind the deli counter and Max- the wine expert- are fabulous! All of their customized recommendations for gatherings have been a hit. If you are lucky enough to get there before they are sold out, they carry loaves of bread from a fabulous local baker (look to the left of the front door when you walk in). Note the market brought on more staff and extended hours given our neighborhood is growing in popularity!
Awesome hidden gem Italian market with a sandwich shop in the back. We had a 12" Italian special on a soft roll and it was really tasty. Will definitely be back.
Got a custom 12” sandwich to go for $10.99. Ingredients are always fresh and the staff is friendly. Someone always asks if you’ve been helped. Ordering is easy (just fill out their sandwich form and hand it to them at the back of the store or order online.) Great place for Italian deli sandwiches. They also sell wine, frozen pizza, cheeses, and many items found in an Italian market (olives, pasta, sauces, etc.)
My first time in A. Litteri I didn’t recall any music playing, but I was definitely humming Che La Luna while trying to find a good bottle of Vermentino - if there was ever a place to find one, the ceiling-high racks of imported Italian, Spanish and Portuguese wines in A. Litteri is where it will be, at least on this side of the Atlantic.
To the back of the store, past the walls of imported pasta, olive oils, spices, and sauces are three large deli coolers with olives and cheeses on one side and meats on the other. There are menus and pencils for people to mark their choice of sandwich, choose toppings, etc. Being right next to Gualladet University, you can also mark if you’re deaf so they will bring you your sandwich instead of calling your name. We ordered chicken Parmesan and classic Italian sandwiches on soft rolls. The chicken parm was pressed into a panini and had just the right amount of sauce and melted cheese. The classic Italian was a paean dedicated to the perfect combination of capicola, Genoa salami, mortadella, prosciuttini, lettuce, tomato, onion, hot peppers and olive oil dressing. We ordered some cannolis, of course, and walked them back to my place to have a socially distanced lunch - with Louis Prima playing on the Alexa. My only regret was not ordering more. The Italian embassy may be somewhere else in DC, but Italy’s best ambassador is a little store called A. Litteri. (Out of five) Food: 5; Ambiance: 4.5; Value: 5; Service: 3 (the person at the counter in the back had some serious difficulty grating pecorino despite being asked five times).
